HUNT - Reginald (Reg) D. Hunt, a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away in his sleep, peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Sunday, June 11, 2000 at the age of 52 years. Reg excelled academically and enjoyed his career in the oil patch, in Calgary, the city he loved and was born in. As much as he enjoyed this, his true love was his home and activities with his soul mate Lindy. Reg will be remembered for his devotion to family and his love of cooking, walking, meditation, his special gift of music that he loved to share with all, riding his motorcycle and his fascination with computers. Thank you Reg for your example of what a gentleman and friend is. Thank you Dad for living the standards we now live by, encouraging and allowing us to be the people we are. You have been an inspiration to many as your wonderful spirit shone brightly through your loving heart. What we receive is our eternal gift to those who follow after and to those who went before or stayed with us for awhile. Peace be to you today as we remember your last thoughts "I love my life". Reg will be dearly missed by his loving wife and best friend of twenty-eight years, Lindy Lou (nee Gorrell); his daughter Alana; and son Ryan. JONES - Dr. Melvin (Mel) David Jones, November 16, 1943 - June 12, 2000. With a life filled with accomplishments and adventure, after a courageous fight with cancer, Mel's spirit has left us and now soars with his beloved eagles. Mel passed away peacefully at the Peach Arch Hospital in White Rock, B.C. on June 12 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Mel is predeceased by his father David and his sister Donna. He will be deeply missed by his wife and "best buddy" Margaret; his children, Christopher, Graham, Jennifer (Quinn Zapach), Christine, Adrienne (Darren McKinnon); grandchildren, Maddison Zapach, Aidan McKinnon; mother Olive Jones; his brothers, Allan (Donna) and Kevin; sons-in-law, Quinn Zapach, Darren McKinnon; brother-in-law Brian Haley; nieces and nephews, Cassey, Rob, Vern, Kyle, Lisa, Loma, Leanne; and many loving aunts and uncles. Mel was born in Hardesty, Alberta in 1943. In 1966, he accepted the position of assistant professor at the University of Alberta Faculty of Dentistry. In 1969, Mel graduated from a Masters degree of Dentistry in Prosthodontics at Indiana University. His pioneering work in television microscopy and fibre optics helped to revolutionize the field of Prosthodontics. Mel also founded Canada's first dental study club "The Calgary Gnathological Society". Mel contributed to many scientific journals and books. He is listed in "Who's Who in the American West", "American Men and Women of Science" and "Who's Who of Intellectuals" of Oxford University Press. Mel has also been honored with many life memberships in organizations such as "The American Academy of Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics" and "The Calgary District Dental Society". While practicing Dentistry, Mel also owned and operated Hallmark and Merle Norman franchises. In 1989, he turned his pursuits to retail full-time. With his wife Margaret, he owned and operated the Calgary The Body Shop Franchises. Putting his computer and electronic hobbies to use, Mel developed an Inventory Management system for small and medium-sized retailers. His efforts gave birth to Easy International Inc., which now live on in the companies J-Commerce Inc. and Comtrell Systems Inc. A Memorial Service will be held at Riverview United Church, 900- 47 Avenue S.W., Calgary), at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2000, with the Rev. Rita Cattell officiating. LESTER - Diane Lester (nee Ashcroft), born July 7, 1947, passed away on June 10, 2000. Throughout her life Dee loved children and her love lives on in the faces of her sons, Geoff and his loving wife Karie-Ann, Andrew and his special friend Colleen, and her pride and joy, Dave. She loved her nieces and nephews, Chris and Jennifer Simpson, Phil Bacon and his special friend Lisa, and Tricia Loeb and her husband Dan. Dee will be loved forever in the heart of her husband Barry; her "Pop" Les Ashcroft; her sisters, Gayle and Janice; her father-in-law "Grandad" Bill Lester; her brother-in-law Bruce Simpson; and her sister-in-law Janet Bacon and her husband John. MANCUSO - Giuseppina Mancuso, beloved wife of Mr. Giuseppe Mancuso of Calgary, passed away at the Forest Grove Care Centre on June 13, 2000, at the age of 84 years. Giuseppina was born on March 23, 1916 in Cicala, Italy. She immigrated to Canada in 1962 to join her husband who had been in Canada for three years prior to her arrival. Giuseppina enjoyed gardening, cooking and especially spending time with her family. Besides her loving husband, Giuseppina is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Francesco and Maria Mancuso of Italy, Giuseppe and Caterina Mancuso, and Angelo and Maria Mancuso, all of Calgary; two daughters and sons-in-law, Maria and Tom Mancuso, and Connie and Franco Cianflone, all of Calgary; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. McCLOY - Doreen Luff passed away on June 14, 2000 at Foothills Special Services at the age of 82. She is survived by her loving daughter Norah McCloy, her son-in-law Norbert Schlenker, her granddaughter Catharine; numerous nieces and nephews and two god-sons, Dave Williams and William Shannon. She was predeceased by her husband Pat (T.R.) McCloy. He is survived by his wife Rosemary; daughter Katherine; and son Douglas and his family. Baron served thirty-three years in the Armed Forces and travelled the world in the line of duty. NICHOLS - Ken Nichols of High River, Alberta, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 7, 2000. He will be sadly missed as a father, granddad, brother, uncle, cousin and frined. Ken was born K. Ernest Nichols October 27, 1941 in Ponoka. He grew up in Ponoka and Didsbury with his two brothers and three sisters. He was married to Anne Nichols in 1961 and earned many degrees in Education, Psychology, Chemistry and Safety. He was a teacher in Nanton and Claresholm, a school board administrator in Calgary and worked as a teacher and Safety advisor in Oil and Gas. Ken and Anne lived in many parts of the world, finally settling near their grandchildren in High River. Ken was a passionate traveler, recycler and gardener, a generous man who helped anyone in need. He was suddenly taken with his wife Anne, his mother-in-law Mary, and his beloved grandchildrne, Tyler and Silka. He is survived by his parents, Ruth and Leo of Kelowna, BC; children, Ken and Geralyn of High River, Rob and Erika of Reno, Nevada, Heather and Wayne of Nanton, Mary-Sue and Brent of Calgary; grandchildren, Alicia, Cody, Laranda and Jordon; siblings, Les and Gayle, Mary Lou, Leona and Jack, Marti and Peter, David and Christine; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. NICHOLS - Tyler (twelve years old) and Silka (ten years old), children of Ken and Geralyn Nichols of High River, Alberta, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 7, 2000. They will be sadly missed by their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. Tyler was born on January 24, 1988 in High River. He was an exceptionally bright and kind child who loved the outdoors. He spent every spare moment in his fort, with his animals, and playing outside games with his sister and friends. Silka was born on May 6, 1990, in High River. She was an outgoing, bubbly child who befriended everyone she met. Silka's heart was very soft and generous and she had time for everyone. Silka was a gifted pinaist and loved creating gifts with and for her friends. Silka and Tyler traveled extensively with their parents and had just returned from a two month safari in Africa. These two beautiful children will live on in the hearts of everyone they knew.
