Derek’s parents Rick and Lee-Ann Lyon, brothers David (Jillian) Lyon of Camrose, their children Maggie, Nathaniel and Eileen, and Dan (Tonia) Lyon of Drayton Valley and their daughter Alivia are cherishing the precious memories of an incredible son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend who passed away in Edmonton at the age of 31.
Derek was a bachelor and a fantastic Uncle who loved spending time with his nephew and nieces and the children of his friends. He graced us with his qualities of compassion, acceptance, empathy and generosity. His 6’4" frame would come through the door with his illuminating smile and his arms took you in for a loving hug. Derek had a fun loving spirit and was dedicated to his close-knit friends and he would give you the shirt off his back if needed. He loved reading about any subject and was one of Chapters best customers. He played hockey, skied and snowboarded, tried surfing, enjoyed “roughing it” camping in the outdoors and loved to participate in the annual “Raft Trip” with his friends. He lived
his life to the fullest and savoured those memories. His sense of humour and infectious laugh will be missed at many future gatherings. Sharing in the feelings of deep sorrow with his family are his “favourite Aunts”, Aunts and Uncles, cousins and his huge circle of friends.
Please join us to celebrate Derek’s life on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Centre, 5745 — 45 Avenue, Drayton Valley, AB (located next to the Omniplex).
