Jordan -- Danny Jordan, born March 16, 1924, beloved husband of Lorna Jordan of Drumheller, passed away January 12, 2001 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Lorna and children Wayne, Carol and Wendy; and grandchildren Carlie, Krista, Jay and Jill. He is also survived by his brother Mark and sister Letty and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Nickolas and Jordana; his youngest brother Stanley; a niece and a nephew. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at 2 -- 00 p.m. from Courtney-Winter's Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Wayne McCrackin officiating. Courtney-Winter's Funeral Chapel are in care of arrangements.
Stone -- Frederick Phelps Stone passed away peacefully surrounded by members of his family, in the Drumheller Hospital on January 6, 2001 at the age of 73, just two days short of his 74th birthday. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Lyla, of 46 years; his children, Larry (Joan) Stone of Airdrie, Randy (Valerie) Stone of Saskatoon and Bonnie (Al) Molzan of Drumheller; and his cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey and Amanda Stone, Alicia and Jeremy Stone, and Chad, Justin and Travis Molzan.
He will also be remembered by his nieces Avis (Harry) Trumpf and Margaret Elliott) Sim and their families; and numerous relatives in Lyla's family.
Fred was predeceased by his father; his mother; his stepfather; his brother Gordon and his sister Marjorie.
Fred was born in Lloydminister, Saskatchewan on January 8, 1927.After his father passed away in 1929 the family moved to the Jumbo Hills district before returning to Lloydminister. In 1935 Fred and his mother moved to the Rumsey/Rowley area where a short time later his mother married William Bramsness. He grew up and worked on the home farm until he hired on with the Canadian National Railway on May 27, 1948, where he was very proud to have worked for 38 years and 10 months. He first worked at Sibbald, Alberta and then worked as an assistant agent from 1948 to 1951 at various places in southern Alberta. He then trained as a telegraph operator in Benton, Alberta and first worked as an operator on June 11, 1951. He later went on to work in Drumheller where he met Lyla Hancox in the Drumheller hospital where she nursed, and they were married on June 30, 1954 in Dominion City, Manitoba. They first lived in Stettler and then work took them to Drumheller, Michichi, Edberg, Alsask and back to Drumheller. Fred worked his last two years in Calgary but maintained his residence in Drumheller commuting back home each weekend. He retired in March 1987 in Drumheller.
As a young man he enjoyed taking in the Calgary Stampede and attending many local town dances. His passion was assisting local farmers during harvest. His interests and hobbies included visiting with friends and family and woodworking, and in his later years his HAM radio and computer. One of his greatest joys was visits with his grandchildren and family gatherings. His family will fondly remember his story telling ability and his impeccable memory especially regarding his farming and railways experiences. He was a member of the Calgary Amateur Radio Association (CARA), Amateur Radio League of Alberta, Radio Amateur of Canada, Order of Railroad Telegraphs and Brotherhood of Railway and Airline Clerks (BRAC).
Services were held on Wednesday, January 10 at Knox United Church, Rev. Blair Kirkby and Pastor Lloyd Huber officiated.

Conlin -- Rita Conlin (nee Tuffley) passed away peacefully at the Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, B.C. on January 2, 2001. She was born in Taber, Alberta, January 18, 1920. At the age of 5, the family moved to Wayne, Alberta. In 1935 she moved to Drumheller with her mother and sister Freda. In her teens she met Arnold Conlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Conlin and they were married April 16, 1941. ÒArnÓ joined the air force and they went to reside in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Rita came back to Drumheller to have son Rick. After the end of World War II they went to live in Vancouver, B.C. They were very active in their area and made many friends. Rita is survived by sons Rick (Diane), Bill (Nancy), Leigh (Trisha) and daughter Joanne (Bruce Granger), eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild as well as her sister Freda Green of Calgary. Rita and Arn retired to White Rock, B.C. about 12 years ago. Arn passed away 4 years ago and they are both interred in the Victory Memorial Park in White Rock, B.C.
Desorcy -- Arthur. Art was born in East Coulee, Alberta December 4, 1930. He passed away suddenly on January 21, 2001. Art married Helen Sibulak on October 14, 1950 at Nacmine. They spent 50 plus years together, celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary on October 14, 2000. On that occasion their family presented they with a glorious trip to Paris. Art and Helen spent their early years together in Nacmine and Oyen, Alberta. They moved to Washington state around 1955, then to Provo, Utah. Retiring to Orange County Los Angeles around 1990. Most of Art's working life was spent in the steel related industry, at one time he owned part of Global Coatings in Provo. Athletic activities, especially hunting and fishing, were a big part of his life and he enjoyed many happy times doing those with his family. Surviving are his Wife Helen, Sons Rene, Art and Billy, Daughters Darlene, and Toni, one Brother Rene, 9 Grandchildren, and 11 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother and father and sister Pat. The family requests that no gifts or flowers be given. Those wishing to do so may make donations to their favorite charity. Funeral services followed by cremation will be held in Los Angeles on January 25, 2001.
Firkus -- Mr. Albert Eldon Firkus of Standard, Alberta, beloved husband of Donna (Coultman), passed away on January 20, 2001. He is survived by his children, Sharon, Neil (Jacci), Laurel (Ken), all of Calgary, Kevin (Devon) of Cochrane and Darren (Wendy) of Standard; nine grandchildren; his stepmother Mary; four brothers, Clifford, Keith, Ron and Gordon; and one sister Joyce. Dart -- (Annie Dart) Annie Cooper Steel, born in Bishop Auckland, County of Durham, England on October 29, 1920, passed away in Drumheller, Alberta on July 3, 2002. Annie married Steve in Drumheller, Alberta and they had one son, Don. Annie was highly energetic, was always on the go and was known to many. Whether a friend, relative or just someone that needed help, she was always there. She loved her family and this was demonstrated by her loving acts daily. Annie had a passion for the beautiful flowers surrounding her home and her garden. An equal passion was her love for baking and decorating cakes. Although it is sometimes difficult to say goodbye, it is not difficult for each one of us to remember the many things she did or helped us accomplish at some point in our lives. She will be missed but never forgotten. Annie was predeceased by her husband Steve on January 1, 2000, and her sister Isabella (Willows) on January 29, 1996. She is survived by her sisters Sally (Waldemar) Wolf, Hilda (Frank) Halase, and Susie (Vic) Verstrepen; by her son Don (Adrienne) Dart; Grandchildren Dave (Doreen), Bob (Shannon), and Michelle (Darren Wagner); and by her great grandchildren Ryan, Mason and Jordan. Hodge -- (Annie Jane (nee Smith) With great sadness we regret the passing of Annie on Saturday, July 6, 2002. Annie was born August 26, 1921 in Laurancekirk, Scotland and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1927. She lived in Michichi, Alberta, throughout her childhood. There, she married Allan Hodge in 1945 and lived in Olds, Calgary and Lacombe. Annie was predeceased by Allan in 1996; her parents George and Christina Smith; brothers George and John; sisters Chrissie and Mable. Annie is survived by her brother Jimmy Smith of Delia; daughter Cheryl and her husband Murray Asher and special grandson Christopher of Calgary; son Rodney Hodge and friend Fiona of Aberdeen Scotland; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services to be held on Tuesday, July 9 at 2 -- 00 pm at St. Andrews United Church, Lacombe. Refreshments to follow at the Kozy Korner. Johnson - Leo Kaleb Leo Kaleb Johnson passed away on July 2, 2002 at the age of 80 years. He will be remembered by his wife Jessie, his sons Jerry (Wendy), Keith (Gloria) and Al (Lyn) and two step- daughters Ruth (Dwayne) Dawley and Mary (Lorne) Wilson. Grandpa leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by five sisters -- Aina Avramenko, Emy (John) Andres, Karin Shaw, Doris (Cliff) Aspholm and Mae (Cal) Wall as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Leo was predeceased by his beloved daughter Judith (1951) and his brother Alf (1969). Leo was born in Idre, Sweden on April 28, 1922 and came to Canada with his family in 1929. They settled in the Carbon area and later moved to a farm at Lousana. As a young man he worked for the chuckwagon driver, Merle Anderson where he met and married Leah Tetz in 1944. He later worked in the coal mines and then began driving truck for Drumheller Transport which he eventually owned. Leo married Jessie (Gilmore) in 1976 and they enjoyed many interests together including camping, fishing, golfing, horseshoes, dancing and playing cards. For 22 years, Leo and Jessie spent their winters soaking in the nice weather in Yuma, Arizona. A short memorial was held at 2 -- 00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at Knox United Church hall at 195-3 Avenue, Drumheller, followed immediately by an open house until 4 -- 00p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Calgary and District Unit, 200, 215 - 12 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB T2G 1A2 or to Drumheller Continuing Care, Box 4500, Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y0. Moench -- On his final journey, we say goodbye to Ken (Red) Moench, born August 13, 1964, departed July 2, 2002. Farming, trucking, laughing and helping others were his passions. Red leaves his wife, Leanne; Parents, Ken and Kay; sisters, Kerry (Louis), Kathy-Ellen (Kyle); In-laws; nieces and many good friends and will be missed dearly. 28p
Johnston -- Mrs. Victoria May Johnston, a longtime resident of the Orkney district passed away in Drumheller on January 22, 2001 at the age of 86 years. Victoria was born in Drumheller on May 24, 1914 to Gaudet and Edith Audy. Victoria was part of one of the first pioneer families in the Drumheller area, and one of eleven children. She took all her education in Drumheller and she worked at the hospital for awhile. In 1937 on June 12, Victoria married Peter Harvey Johnston. She then moved to Orkney to operate the family farm with Peter. They had four children; Ron, Richard, Lewis and Kathleen. Victoria enjoyed crafting, indoor and outdoor gardening, cooking, canning, baking, music, bowling, weaving, shell collecting, and she also raised angora rabbits. She enjoyed visiting over a cup of tea or coffee with friends and neighbors. Victoria was a great mom and grandma and loved being the wife of a farmer. Victoria remained on the farm even after the passing of her husband Peter. Later she moved to the Sunshine Lodge. Victoria was predeceased by her husband Peter on January 8, 1992, grandson Craig, her parents, sisters; Lily, Pearl, Edith and Rosalie. She leaves to cherish her memory; four children; Ron (Jane), Richard (Elaine), Lewis, Kathleen (Rick), 10 grandchildren; Carrie, Tara, Jason, Robert, Jim, Adam, Peter, Arlene, Donald, Sarah; great grandchildren; Dillon, Cassie, Halen, Ethan; one sister Fern (Dennis) Brown, brothers; Lewis (Melita), Bob (Bev), Bill (Gloria) and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Victoria will be held Friday, January 26, 2001 at 1 -- 00pm from Courtney-Winter's Chapel in the Valley with Rev. Kelm -- Alfred Gustav Kelm, beloved husband of Mrs. Annie Kelm of Delia succumbed after a lengthy battle with cancer at the Drumheller Hospital on Sunday, January 21, 2001 at the age of 78 years. Alfred was born July 19, 1922 at Fox Valley, SK. As his mother passed away in 1923, he was raised by his Uncle Alexander and Aunt Matilda Phahl in the Hand Hills area near Hanna, AB. On October 14, 1945 he married Annie Klein of Etonia, SK and purchased a farm near Hanna where they resided until 1955 when they moved to the Delia area. Alfred was an avid farmer who treasured all aspects of his chosen life's work. Hobbies he enjoyed include fishing, curling, baseball, and hockey. He also cherished the quality time spent with his family. A faithful Christian and church elder, he was involved in many activities including choir and bible study. His faith and deep devotion carried him through lifeÕs turbulent times and brought him strength and great joy in his latter years. He leaves to mourn Annie, his wife of 55 years, four sons, Randy (Brita, Matthew and Annalise); Gerry, wife Shary (Kyle and Jason); Myron, wife Carol (Annette (husband Vince), Shane and Cody); Sherwin, wife Jan; and his chosen daughter, Leanne. He will be sadly missed by his step-brother Melvin Phahl and family, step-sister Elaine Nunweiller and family, his in-law families and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous close friends. Alfred was predeceased by his parents, step parents, brother Edwin Kelm and step-brother Ernest Phahl. Cooper -- Alexander William (Bill) On Friday, July 19, 2002, Bill Cooper passed away at the age of 79 years. Kormendy -- Isabel Mary Kormendy (Paul) born July 22, 1918, Calgary AB. passed away July 6, 2002 in Edmonton. Isabel was raised in the Drumheller area and was active in her community. She married Joseph Kormendy on August 31, 1938. They later moved to Rosedale, BC where they resided for a many years raising their family, working and providing service to community and church. Isabel returned to the prairies in 1991 to be closer to family. Isabel was a loving person and was a much loved mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend. She was predeceased by her parents George and Beatrice Paul and sister Helen, and husband Joseph. Isabel is missed and loved by her children George Kormendy (Sherry), Victoria, Marie Kormendy, Seattle, Laurie MacNair (Tom), Sherwood Park, grandchildren Paul Becker, Stuart Becker (Christine), Julie Becker, Chris Kormendy, Gene Kormendy, her sister Edie Jensen (Ove), nieces Susan Brown (Carson), Joan Reiffenstein (Laurie) and nephew Albert Jensen and family. Macdonald -- Cyrus Oliver Macdonald (Obb), passed away at the age of 85, at the Drumheller Regional Health Complex on July 20, 2002. He is survived by his lifetime companion and wife, Agnes, daughters Gloria Frehlick of Taber, Corinne of Drumheller, granddaughter Jodene (Jim) Sekura of Taber, a sister Oriole OÕDwyer of Calgary, and special niece Sandra. He is fondly remembered by all his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Bobby, his parents, and two brothers, Howard and Harold. Obb will be remembered as a farmer in the Craigton District, and for his many mechanical skills having worked for the Ford, Rockyford and North Star Garages, Drumheller Composite High School and in latter years for the Starland School Division in Morrin. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting and fishing and in later years spending winters in Yuma, Arizona. He will be sadly missed by his many friends who knew and loved him for his friendliness and happy nature, and a home whose doors were always open to friends and family. Shapcott -- Caroline (Mary) Hope Shapcott (nee Spence). Born January 18, 1895 in London, Ontario. passed away January 17, 2001, one day before her 106 year.
Mary is survived by her daughter Jean (Bob) Harrison, Drumheller; a son William (Florence) Sharp, Innisfree, Alberta; grandson James (Carol) Wannstrom, Munson (whom she raised) and a daughter-in-law May Sharp, Calgary. Mary also had 20 other grandchildren; many more great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who she loved to see. Mary was predeceased by her parents; five brothers; her husbands and a son Jim Sharp and daughter Irene Pedrini.
Mary moved west to Michichi to her parent's farm in the early 1900's. She married Alfred Sharp in 1917 and they farmed in the Munson district. Later after his passing she married Emery Shapcott in 1939 and remained on the original homestead until moving to the T.R. Ross Nursing home 16 years ago. She passed the hours with visiting and reading. Mary was active in her early years with raising chickens, gardening and handiwork. An active member of the Munson W.I. and the Munson United Church and U.C.W. She is now happy at rest.

Siermachesky -- Roman 'Ray' passed away peacefully at the Drumheller District Hospital, on July 9, 2002 at the age of 82. For the last 30 years, Ray operated motels and hotels in Drumheller. He is survived by his loving children, Gordon (Cheryl) and Debbie, 2 grandchildren Tom (Michelle) and Tim, and 2 great grandchildren, Kayla and Erin. Roman leaves to mourn, his six brothers and one sister. Following his wishes, no service will be held. His ashes will be scattered in the family plot at the Humboldt (SK) Cemetery at a later date. Taylor -- Elizabeth -- passed away on January 17, 2001 in Drumheller. Elizabeth was born in Carbon, Alberta on March 17, 1913. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest in 1999, as well as brothers, John, Bill, and Frank (Margaret). Elizabeth leaves to mourn her passing her only sister Nell (Jim) Bowerman of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews.
