WILLIAM KNOX
2009
WILLIAM CLARENCE KNOX, beloved husband of Anna Knox, passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre, on Thursday, March 28, 2009 at the age of 92 years.
Besides his loving wife Anna, William is survived by his son Gary Knox and grandson Patrick Knox.
William’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. X. Van Der Poll and all of the nurses and staff at St. Michael’s Fraser House.
At William’s request, no funeral service will be held.

HELEN MARY KOVACS (nee Firth)
May 2, 1927 – May 6, 2009

Helen Mary Kovacs passed away suddenly in her home on May 6 2009, 4 days after her 82nd birthday.
She will be dearly missed by her children Greg, Kim, Nadine, and her grandchildren Kelan and Jory. Helen leaves her sister-in-law Anna Blackwood (Art), her brother-in-law John Kovacs (Colleen), her cousins Alice Fransden (Vern), Cliff Firth (Arlene), several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Helen is predeceased by her husband Ernie, her mother Katherine Szarka (Bert), and her aunt Elizabeth Firth (Alwyn).
Helen was born in Calgary, Alberta on May 2, 1927. Her early life was very mobile attending 10 different schools and living at 30 different addresses in Calgary, Bow Island, Glenwood, and Medicine Hat before settling in Lethbridge in 1945. She was married to Ernie who passed away in 1988 after 35 years of marriage. In addition to raising her 3 children, she worked for the City of Lethbridge in the City Manager’s Office and the Social Welfare Department, Williams Tanner and Bell, Canadian Western Natural Gas Company, and Lethbridge Herald as secretary for the publisher, Cleo Mowers.
Helen was very generous with her time serving faithfully in numerous groups and committees in her church and in the community. She was a long standing member of the Lethbridge Historical Society where she served in the executive as Historian since May 1997. She worked diligently to ensure that the history of Lethbridge was preserved through the development of historical scrapbooks containing newspaper articles, photos and other historically significant paraphernalia.
During her later years she endured numerous health challenges, but remained very active and continued to nuture her eclectic musical tastes by attending the many symphonies, concerts and performances offered in southern Alberta.
The family would like to thank the coffee club ladies who provided continual support and gave her countless hours of joy and laughter. We would also like to especially thank Laura, Stenella, and the staff from Greystoke Homes for the loving assistance they provided on a daily basis.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the church prior to the funeral service from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at MCKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329- 15 Avenue South, Lethbridge on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Cathy Coates officiating. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Helen to the Lethbridge Historical Society (PO Box 974, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 4A2).

ARCHIE KWAN
2009

ARCHIE WAYNE KWAN of Lethbridge passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the age of 49 years.
Archie will be sadly missed by his loving sisters Joni Kwan (Jack Houtekamer) of Lethbridge and Lorraine Chow (Kayton) of Calgary.
He is also survived by his uncles Jim Lee and Ming Tse, second mother Sherrie Kwan, nieces and nephews; Sara, Adam, Stephanie and Chris; cousins Kellie, Natalie, Andrew, Carson, Diane, and Janet.
Archie was predeceased by his father and mother Wayne and Elsie Kwan and his grandparents Zeke and Woo Ken Kwan and Minnie Lee.
Archie faced many challenges in life, yet maintained a cheerful disposition.
His family would like to express gratitude to the Alberta Mental Health Association (Faye), the Lethbridge Dialysis unit and Dr. M. Wong for all of their care and attention.
Relatives and Friends are invited to a Visitation at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, April 11, 2009 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
Interment to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chinese Section.

FRANK KRAMPL
2009

FRANK PAUL KRAMPL, beloved partner of Jessie Sanders, of Shaughnessy, passed away at St. Michael’s Palliative Care on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the age of 50 years.
Beside his loving partner, he is survived by his daughter Shauna (Aaron) McColl of Lethbridge and his son Joe Krampl of Shaughnessy. He is the loving grandfather of Sarah, Cole, Zachary, Jaxson, Kage and Eva. He is also survived by 10 brothers and sisters, Mary (Kurt) Ott, Anne Allen, William (Joni) Krampl, Shirley (Larry) Strukoff, Rose (Merlin) Wylie, Jerry (Shirley) Krampl, Linda (Rudy) Fleischhauer, Martha (Doug) Grenier, John (Gayle) Krampl, Vicky (Lyle) Aubin, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Martha and Victor Krampl, his brother Joe Krampl as well as a nephew Brian Krampl and a neice Debbie Torgunrud.
Frank was born in Michele, B.C., but he lived most of his life in southern Alberta. He was raised in a large family, being the second youngest of 12 children. He worked mainly in the construction field. He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing and many other outdoor activities. Frank was an amazing father, grandfather, partner, friend and brother. He was a very caring, giving man, who was very loved and will be missed dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayer Services at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. with Karen Haberman officiating.
Funeral Services will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with Deacon Frank Peta, officiating. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

MABEL KORSBERG
2008

MABEL MARGARET KORSBERG, beloved wife of 63 years to Melford Korsberg, of Lethbridge, AB, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the age of 88 ½ years.
Mabel is the loving mother of Darlene Gleasen (Bill) of Calgary; Connie-Marie Riedlhuber (Jim) of Lethbridge; Alana McClain (Mony) of Lethbridge. Mabel is survived by her sister, Elsie Nygard of Brooks. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cherie Harvey (Scott), Michele Maxwell (Darrin), Kathryn Corliss (Aaron), Danielle Erickson (Scott), Travis Riedlhuber, Adam Riedlhuber, and great grandchildren Jaci and Jackson. Her special caregiver this year was Anne Bailey.
Mabel was predeceased by her granddaughter, Chantelle (Kiel) Gleason-Garret, her three infant children, her parents and 8 brothers and sisters.
Mabel was born in Arena, Saskatchewan and moved to Rolling Hills, Alberta in 1941. She married Melford in 1945 and farmed in Loomis, Saskatchewan until 1949 when they moved to Warner, AB. They farmed 16 miles east of Warner for 20 years and then moved to Lethbridge where they still reside.
Mabel was a great wife and mother and loved to cook, sing, read and most of all dance. She could be mischievous and had a sense of humour and absolute love of children and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Friday, December 12, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Sister Ivy McCaan officiating.
In memory of Mabel, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Foundation, 1400 - 9th Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 4V5, designated to the Bridges GCR program.

FRED KARREN
1918 - 2008

MR. FRED HAROLD KARREN, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Luella Karren, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at the age of 90.
He is lovingly remembered by his three sons, Dwight (Diane) Karren; Bryon (Linda) Karren; and Randy (Anne) Karren; two daughters Barb Welsh and Bev Chrupka; his precious 13 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
He is survived by his sisters Lillian, Nurae (Ron), Helendean (Boyd), Joanne; and his brothers and sister-in-law Lloyd (Maude) Orcutt and Lloyd Currie.
Fred was predeceased by his parents; wife; brother Clinton Karren; sister LuRue Fletcher; three brother-in-laws, Gerald Moser, Art Baldry, and Walter Currie; and his three sister-in-laws Joyce Karren and Ethel and Rita Currie.
Fred was born on January 13, 1918 in Logan, Utah and came to Canada as a young child. As a young man, he worked as a farm laborer to help support his younger siblings. Fred received a full basketball scholarship at Mount Royal College in Calgary. Fred then returned and started a career, which almost spans 50 years, at the Canadian Sugar Factory, where he met his life partner, Luella, of 58 years.
Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandpa and brother who will be missed by all.
A Funeral Service will be held at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS, Picture Butte Ward, 404 Willow Avenue, Picture Butte, on Friday, November 7, 2008 at 12:00 P.M. Friends may meet with the family prior to the service from 10:45 to 11:45 A.M.
A private family graveside will be held prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation, #207, 542 7th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2H1.

DONNA KNIBB
2008

DONNA KNIBB, beloved wife of Ernie Knibb, of Coalhurst, Alberta, passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the age of 54 years.
Besides her loving husband Ernie, she is survived by her family Chris and Kathy, Heather and Alex of Taber. She is also survived by her siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends. Donna was predeceased by her mother and father.
Donna had a passion for people always looking for the best in everyone. At the age of 40, Donna went back to school and received her Nursing Degree. All of her friends will always remember her great sense of humor, she will be remembered by the many co-workers and patient’s lives she touched, as well as her family and friends.
A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Wednesday, October 5, 2008 at 8:00 P.M.
Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 – 13th Street North, Lethbridge, on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Tim Boyle Celebrant. Immediately following the Funeral Mass, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Church Hall.

JOHN KOWAL
1938 - 2008

JOHN KOWAL, beloved husband of Mary Kowal, of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the age of 70 years.
John was born in the Ukraine on June 7, 1938. His family immigrated to Canada in June of 1948. John married Mary on May 2, 1966. They resided in Lethbridge their entire lives.
John is survived by his wife Mary and their 5 children: Ralph (Darlene); Wendy (Dave); Doug (Katie); Patricia (Alvin); Dave (Amy); 18 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
John is also survived by his sisters Lydia Carman, Donna (Doug) Burrows; Nina (Brian) Humphries; and brother Alex Kowal.
John was predeceased by his parents John and Fedorea Kowal and his brother Nick.
The family would like to send a special thank-you to Dr. Kozan and all of the staff at St. Michael’s Palliative Care for all of their help.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Friday, October 3, at 3:00 P.M., with Pastor Dan Kees officiating.
Viewing will be held 1 hour prior to start of the Funeral Service.

BERT KORMOS
October 28, 1927 – August 25, 2008

Albert (Bert) Kormos. It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Bert Kormos, beloved husband of Maggie Kormos. Bert passed away peacefully at the Taber Hospital at the age of 80 years.
Born in Pacin Hungary, Bert and his mother immigrated to Canada in 1930 to join his father. He completed his schooling in Raymond and then settled with his family on their farm in the Coaldale area.
In 1948 he married Magdalene (Maggie) Beres and later moved to Raymond.
Throughout his life Bert pursued numerous careers including farming with his father and later on his own farm, truck driving, mechanic, owner and operator of farm implement dealerships and teaching agriculture mechanics and specialty crops at Lethbridge Community College.
He was an active member and volunteer for the Lions Club, Raymond Fire Department, leader of the 5th Raymond Cub Pack, Taber Flying Club, First United Church in Lethbridge, the Hungarian Old Timers Association and others too numerous to mention.
Bert’s passions included his family, hunting, fishing, flying, and golfing. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Bert is survived by his loving wife Maggie, son Ronald (Sharon) Kormos of Taber, daughter Marie (Bob) Halvorson of Lethbridge, grandsons Ryan Kormos and Darren (Stephanie) Kormos. He is also survived by his brother John (Cheryl) Kormos and brother –in-law Les (Shirley) Beres all of Lethbridge, 2 nephews and numerous nieces.
Bert was preceded by his parents, one brother, one sister and one brother-in-law.
A memorial service will be held at First United Church, 5th Ave and 13St North Lethbridge on Tuesday September 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Elizabeth Brown officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bert may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 – 10th Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 2M7 or S.T.A.R.S. (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society) P.O. Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7.

CLARENCE KELLN
1942 - 2008

CLARENCE LUTHER KELLN passed away on his 66th birthday, July 31, 2008 at St. Michael’s Palliative Care, the beloved husband of Roslyn. He is survived by daughter Rhona (Darren) Dundas and grand-daughters Madison & Paige of LaBroquerie, MB, stepsons Kevin (Lyndsey) Brees and Neil (Erika) Brees and grandson Owen of Lethbridge, AB. Also mourning his passing are his mother Lydia Kelln and brother Herb (Viola) Kelln, nephews Rick & Jason together with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He will also be greatly missed by the mother of his daughter Sharon Irvine and his “brudder from anudder mudder” Cliff Irvine.
He was pre-deceased by his father Samuel Kelln (1996), fathers-in-law Bill Passey (1991), Bruce Davies (2001) and mother-in-law Verna Davies (2007).
Clarence was born on the family farm in Duval, SK on July 31, 1942 graduating high school and entered the University of Alberta where he attained his Chartered Accountant degree in 1972. He has been a proud member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta since that time. He practiced in this field in private industry until 1988 when he began his own practice with his beloved “unofficial” partner Roslyn until illness forced retirement in 2007.
He was also a proud member of the Lethbridge Country Club and will dearly miss all his golfing buddies. Over the years he has served on the Board of Directors of the Lethbridge Minor Hockey Association and the South Country Treatment Centre.
Friends and clients are welcome to meet with the family at a memorial reception to share their thoughts, stories and memories at the LETHBRIDGE COUNTRY CLUB on Tuesday, August 5th from 6:00 -10:00 pm. Memorial services will be held at the EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, Hwy 4 on August 6th at 3:00 p.m. If so desired, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317 – 10 Street S, Lethbridge, AB T1J 2M7.
