HELEN TENDLER
2009
MARIE “HELEN” TENDLER, beloved wife of John Tendler, of Lethbridge, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the age of 75 years.
Helen was born and raised in Pincher Creek, AB. On June 9th, 1956 she married John Tendler with whom she shared 53 wonderful years.
Helen was generous, caring and fun loving. She loved people, especially her family and friends. Helen was an active member of her community, dividing her time between volunteering and church activities. As well Helen enjoyed travelling, camping and no matter how busy her schedule was could always find time for bingo. Helen will be fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Besides her husband John, she will be lovingly remembered by her 4 children - Cathy Hastie (Gary Desbiens) of Pincher Creek, Susan (Norm) Kerr of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Robert Tendler of Lethbridge and Joanne Tendler of Lethbridge; her 3 grandchildren - Tanya Hastie, Christopher Kerr and Rachel Kerr; 2 brothers - Joe Desbiens of Pincher Creek and Alfred (Mary) Desbiens of Lillooet, BC; her sister - Annie (Bernard) Hoffman of Pincher Creek; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents Xavier & Anna and one brother; Francis “Scotty” Desbiens.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 – 13th Street North, Lethbridge, AB on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Tim Boyle, Celebrant.
Private family interment will take place in Mountain View Cemetery.

JASON TOLLEY
1987 - 2009

JASON ANDREW TOLLEY beloved son of Kevan and Colleen Tolley passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the age of 21 years.
Jason was born on May 15, 1987 in Blairmore, AB.
Jason loved the mountains and spent many hours skiing and hiking in the Crowsnest Pass. He was very athletically inclined and excelled at baseball and basketball. Jason moved to Lethbridge in 1997 where he received the rest of his education, graduating from Catholic Central High School. In his free time he enjoyed skate boarding, rollerblading and weight training. Jason had numerous friends and was considered to be the life of the party.
He will always be remembered for his gentle nature and selfless acts of kindness.
Jason is survived by his loving parents Kevan and Colleen Tolley; brothers Adam (Melissa) Tolley, Jeff Tolley; special nephews Ethan and Brady and numerous friends and relatives.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Monday, April 13, 2009 at 1:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, M.S. /Walk, 724 – 13th Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1H 2T1.

JOHN TONIN
2009

MR. GIOVANNI ALDO “JOHN” TONIN, beloved husband of Mrs. Linda Tonin of Lethbridge, AB, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the age of 75 years.
Besides his loving wife Linda, John is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Debbie (Bob) Haraga, son, Johnny, grandchildren Adam, Amanda, Austin. John is also survived by his brothers; Gino (Maria), Giovanna (Franco), Dario (Helen) as well as a sister, Fernanda (Len).
He was predeceased by his parents Antonio & Orsolina, twin children Danelle & Jancarlo, brothers, Sergio& Luigio and a sister Marie.
John was born in Europe but called Canada his home.
As a young man he did many different jobs before finally building a successful chicken farm in Coaldale, AB with his brother, Dario.
He was a physically fit man and was proud of his many accomplishments. He spent many seasons hunting with his close friends and his son. John was happiest when playing the accordion, camping in the Rocky Mountains and playing with his dogs. He had a special love for all kind of birds and all animals. His award winning garden and beautiful fountains gave him much joy and relaxation. He documented his life experiences through many videos and photographs. He spoke fondly of the love of his wife Linda, daughter Debbie, his son Johnny and all his grandchildren; Adam, Amanda and Austin.
He was always a gentleman, a caring husband, father, grandfather and friends to many. He will always be remembered as a unique individual who made many memorable impressions on those he encountered through his travels. He had friends everywhere he went and will be deeply missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 7:00 P.M..
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604-13th Street North on Thursday, February 26 at 11:00A.M. with Reverend Tim Boyle, celebrant.

JAMES LEO TWIGG
1932 - 2008

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, JAMES LEO TWIGG, Apai ksik onistaa (Weasel White Buffalo) on December 13, 2008 at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre surrounded by those he loved, at the age of 76 years.
He leaves behind his loving children, Geri, Bernadette Davis, Carolyn, Annette (Alvin) Wells, Wayne, Clayton (Valerie), Sheldon (Kim), Cory (Melanie), Joshua (Christel), Desiree’ (Shawn) Auger, two daughters-in-law, Marilyn Alexander and Melodie Bastien, 47 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. His siblings, Charlie (Marge) Small Face, Andrew (Joanne) Twigg, Beatrice (Donald) Big Swallow, Theresa Plume, Mary Twigg, Laura (Bob) Gervais and Dr. Marie Small Face Marule. His special adopted children, Deacon Melvin Rutherford, Veronica Eagle Bear, Charlie (Rhonda) Weasel Head, Brenda Quesnelle, Lawana Plume, Clifford Twigg, Jim (Darlene) Plume, Byron (Michelle) Bruised Head, Karla Black Plume, and Pat (Delia) Twigg.
James was predeceased by his wife, Celina, daughter, Doreen Hurd, sons, Leonard, Antonio and Charles, his parents, James and Lucy Twigg, and Emil and Olive Small Face, sisters, Ada (Dan) Weasel Moccasin, Kathleen (Raymond) Young Pine, Margaret (Morris) Hind Bull, Elaine Small Face, Hazel Pepion, Peggy Manson, his brothers, Albert (Philomena) Twigg, Eugene (Evelyn) Twigg, Alan Tiny Small Face and Emil Mouse Small Face. His father and mother-in-law, Harry and Clara Big Throat, several brothers and sisters-in-law and several grandchildren. Please accept our apologies if we missed anyone.
James was born on February 8, 1932 in Cardston and was raised on the Blood Reserve. He received his education at St. Mary’s Residential School where he met and later married Celina Big Throat. After he left school he was employed by several ranchers in the Cardston area. He decided to further his education by attending Olds School of Agriculture and Saskatchewan School of Business. Upon completing his studies, Dad began his own ranching business. He was one of the founding members of the Blood Reserve School Bus Co-Op and was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Roads and Dams. He was an elected member of the Blood Tribe Chief and Council for several years. After leaving council Dad became employed as a trucker with Alberta Gas Trunk Lines until he accepted a position with Indian Affairs as the Administer of the Residential School. After the closure of the school, Dad returned to ranching and operating his school buses.
Dad was a professional athlete in the Pro Rodeo Circuit and one of the founding members of the Indian Rodeo Cowboys Association. He competed in the Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling, Calf-roping and Team-roping, winning many trophies and championships. Dad was one of the first Native Rodeo Announcers. Dad’s hobbies included hockey, curling, golfing, skiing, traveling Europe and flying airplanes until high blood pressure grounded him. He loved to ref basketball games, coach hockey, baseball and gymnastics.
Dad retired in 2002 at the age of 70, spending his leisure time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and watching sports on television. His favorite pastime was playing bingo with Wayne all over Southern Alberta and visiting with his very special cousins, Pete Knife and Veronica Eagle Bear.
Dad was a member of the Horn Society and a long-time member of the Medicine Pipe Society but in his later years, Dad re-embraced his Catholic faith with a very special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
A Wake service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Thursday, December 18, 2008 from 4:00 P.M. - 10:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at ST. PATRICK’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 917-4th Avenue South, Lethbridge, at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Tim Boyle Celebrant.
Interment at family plot on the Blood Reserve.

JOLAN THOMPSON
1942 - 2008

JOLAN “RESS” THOMPSON, beloved wife of Richard (Dick) Thompson of Kipp passed away at the Calgary Foothills Hospital after a very short illness on Friday November 28th at the age of 66; she was surrounded by her family and pastor at the time.
Jolan was born in Hungary on September 12th, 1942. She came to Canada in 1957 and married Steve Ress in 1960 and had three children; James, John and Sue Ress. She was predeceased by her husband Steve in 1980. In 1987 she met Dick and in 1990 they were married and resided in Kipp for the past 19 years.
Besides her loving husband Dick, Jolan is survived by her three children James, John and Sue Ress. She is also survived by Dick’s family, Peggy (Hugh) Lumley, Jeff Thompson, Laura (Gary) Richardson, Mindy (Colin) Weir and all of our grandchildren, Krystal Ress, Riley and Colten Lumley, Brad and Michelle Richardson, Evan, Aimee and Adam Weir. She was also looking forward to the birth of her first great grandchild in December by Krystal.
Jolan is also survived by her mother, Margaret Lakotos, and her sister Anne (Ben) Vredegoor and brother Steve (Carol) Vajda and their families, as well as numerous relatives in Canada and some in Hungary.
She was predeceased by her father Bert Lakotos, Frank Szing, Steve Ress, Jennifer Ress, Mickey and Mary Ress, and Lawrence and Svea Thompson.
Jolan was a very caring and loving person, a true Christian and loved the Lord, always putting God first and was willing to help someone and anyone in need.
Jolan especially enjoyed working with the seniors and doing what she could for the Victory Church.
Jolan will always be remembered by everyone, even the nurses at the Foothills Hospital for her “little habit of straightening things up for people whether they liked it or not”.
A visitation will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME 2800 MAYOR MAGRATH DRIVE SOUTH on Thursday December 4th from 6:00-8:00 PM.
A Funeral Service will be held at VICTORY CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP, Lethbridge, 1 mile east of Lethbridge on HWY 3, on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Morris Watson officiating. Interment to follow at Archmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Streets Alive, 323 4 Street South Lethbridge, AB T1J 1Z9, in Jolan’s name or whatever is on your heart.

PATRICIA TRISKA
2008

PATRICIA LYNN TRISKA, beloved wife of Al Triska, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a brief battle with cancer, on October 29, 2008 at the age of 63 years.
She is the loving mother of Keith Triska and Nicole of Lethbridge; Lorna and Darren Fritz of Duchess, AB; six grandchildren Mark Triska of Lethbridge; Megan Triska of Lethbridge; Ryan Collar of Lethbridge; Aaron Logan of Lethbridge; and Brad and Nicole Fritz of Duchess; her mother-in-law Annie Triska of Coaldale; and her nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles. She is also survived by her extended birth family.
Pat was predeceased by her twin brother, Patrick Glen Davison, her chosen parents, Sam and Kay Davison.
Born, raised and educated in Lethbridge, AB, Pat was a grad from LCI and a room 30 Angel at Hamilton Jr. High.
She married her best friend Albert Triska on May 18, 1964. Together they had two children, Keith and Lorna. She was very involved in the Kinsmen/Kinnettes where she was the first recipient of the Elspeth Rogers Life Membership Award. Pat worked for over 29 years with the Royal Bank meeting many, many people and a life time of friendships in Creston, B.C. and Lethbridge, AB. While in Lethbridge she became very involved in the YMCA and served on the YMCA Board. Pat had many talents and hobbies. She loved quilting and made each of her grandkids a special one. She also loved woodworking at the seniors center, as well as she loved traveling to Arizona every chance she got. Pat will be remembered and loved always and forever by all who knew her. A special thank you to the palliative and home care teams and Dr. Strank, as well a special thank you to her cousin Dr. Marion Taylor of Leduc, AB for spending endless hours caring for Pat over the last three weeks as well as all of her family.
At Pat’s request, there will be no funeral service.

LEE TUCKER
2008

Lamarr “Lee” Tucker passed away August 9, 2008 at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lee is survived by his wife Grace, 3 children, son Tim (Alison) of Taylor BC, daughter Starr (Rick) Davies, daughter Tam Tucker (Mike Calvert). He was the proud Grandpa of Taylor Davies and friend Rosalie, Laura Heptonstall (Steve), Angela Tucker, and his first great grandbaby, Kamryn Grace Heptonstall. Lee was predeceased by his Mother, Catherine Tucker (nee Webber), and his brothers Frank and Harold.
Lee schooled in Dunmore, Alberta and worked at the Caven Ranch there at a young age. He then worked for his Uncle Frank Webber, building roads in the Cyprus Hill area in the 1940’s moving on to the Wartimer Ranch, also known as Browers Ranch, then carrying on to the Ross Ranch as a ranch hand. In 1950, Lee went to northern BC and worked in the oil fields. In 1953, Lee returned to Alberta and married Grace (Traxler) of Etzikom, AB. He joined up with the Alberta Wheat Pool in 1954 until starting Lee Tucker Cattle Company as an order buyer right up to his passing. Lee loved the cattle business and made many good friends throughout his life, however, Lee’s greatest joy was his family.
He will be missed dearly by all of us and remembered forever.
A celebration of his life will be held at the CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1K 7B1, Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Lois Punton officiating.
Donations may be made in Lee’s memory to the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre.

MYRNA BELL TAYLOR
APRIL18, 1938-JULY 10, 2008

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother, MYRNA TAYLOR of Lethbridge, AB at the age of 70 years.
Myrna grew up on a farm north of Parkbeg, SK. She then moved to Moose Jaw, SK where she met her husband of 50 years, Edgar Taylor of the RCAF. The family was stationed in Ottawa, ON as well as Cold Lake, AB.
Myrna worked for TD/Canada Trust for 25 years and soon after retirement enjoyed working as an AVON representative.
She is survived by daughter Kathy (Gordon) Mackie, granddaughter Alexandria and grandson Carter, son Robert Taylor, twin daughters Shelley Taylor & Laurie (Stephen) Driscoll, granddaughter Jordan. A sister Patricia (Roy) Norby of Claresholm, AB.
She is predeceased by her mother and father, Walter & Bessie Dobbin and sister Colleen Hall.
Myrna will be remembered by her kind and loving ways, her great sense of humor and value of life.
The funeral service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Tuesday July, 15 2008 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

VERDA TYSSEN
1928 - 2008

MRS. VERDA ADELINE TYSSEN of Lethbridge, passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the age of 80 years.
She is survived by her children; Sharon (Tom) Hovan of Lethbridge, Myrna Bowns (Louie Privee) of Gunn, AB, Brian Tyssen of Lethbridge, Beverly Gwilliam (Curtis Thom) of Lethbridge, Neil Tyssen of Coaldale, Darline (Ben) Seykora of Prince George, B.C., Garth Tyssen of Lethbridge, Jeanie (Robin) Skitteral of Chetwynd, B.C. and Douglas Tyssen of Lethbridge as well as 28 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 sisters and 1 brother.
Verda was predeceased by her father and mother and 2 brothers.
Verda Adeline (Simmons) Tyssen was born on February 27, 1928 in Claresholm, Alberta and raised in Diamond City where she lived and helped her parents farm along with her 3 sisters and 3 brothers. She went to school in Diamond City where she got a grade 8 education. She then went to work at the Galt Hospital and then cleaned houses for several people. She loved to cook and bake bread. She loved to do some crafts and was a hard worker and thought of everyone else before herself.
Verda married Cornelius John Kelly Tyssen on August 1, 1949 and in 1950 they had their first baby girl and then eight more children. We will always miss her and love her.
Until we meet again, love you mom.
A Memorial Service will be held at the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Lethbridge Alberta Stake, 2410 – 28th Street South, Lethbridge on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Mark Hasegawa officiating.
