JERRY WAUTERS
2008

ERWIN JERRALD “JERRY” WAUTERS passed away after a battle with cancer on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the age of 65 years.
He will be missed by his beloved wife Jaime, his son Greg and his dog Cody.
He is also survived by his brothers; Ettienne (Dorothy), Eugene (Virginia) and Terry (Judy), sister Lorraine (George) Tucker, sister-in-law Joan Gridley and brothers-in-law Dave (Janet) Smithson and Pat (Sylvia) Smithson. “Uncle Jerrald” will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews and good friends Wayne Wilderman and Siv Prins.
He was predeceased by his parents Philemon and Celina Wauters.
Jerry worked as a meat inspector, agrologist and regional grazing manager. He loved helping his family out at harvest time, branding down at the ranch and especially family Christmas tree hunting. Jerry also enjoyed camping with Greg, fishing, fly tying and restoring antiques.
At Jerry’s request, there will be no formal funeral. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Clinic, c/o Foothills Hospital, 1403-29th Street NW, Calgary, Alberta, T2N 2T9.

GORDON WICKEND
1915 - 2008

MR. JOHN GORDON WICKEND, beloved husband of Mrs. Alice Wickend, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the age of 92 years.
Gordon was born on May 17, 1915 in Sheho, Saskatchewan. He was the second oldest of seven children. As his father was section foreman for the CPR, the family resided in many small communities along the railway lines from Sheho to Saltcoats, Saskatchewan.
He served overseas during World War II with the #1 Ordnance Field Park from 1940 to 1945. Upon his return, he moved to Alberta where he met and married Alice Haney on October 4, 1947. On October 4, 2007 they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Gordon was employed for 37 years as a heavy duty mechanic with Caterpillar. In his retirement, Gordon enjoyed gardening, camping, walks with the dog and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife Alice, two sons, John (Sandra) and Ken, daughter Cheryl (Peter) Kerber, five grandchildren; Stuart (Rynel), Douglas, Heather (Shaun), Kimberly and Adam (Raiven), four great grandchildren; Jaston, Kealani, Gradyn and Destiny, sister Vida Simons of Saint John, New Brunswick and brothers and sisters-in-law Leonard Haney, Steve & Kathleen Peta and Howard & Georgina Haney.
A special thanks to the City of Lethbridge Paramedics for their kind assistance.
A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Terry Shillington officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

1942 - 2008

MR. STAN GILBERT “DOO” WEASEL FAT (WHITE FEATHERS) passed away at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on February 5, 2008 at the age of 65 years old.
Besides his loving wife, Shelley White Feathers, he is survived by his children; Lori (Kevin) Healy, Gilbert (Barbara) Weasel Fat, Kelly (Terri Lynn) Weasel Fat, Cindy (Andrew) White Feathers, Joey (Audrey) Weasel Fat, Naatowa’yo’kaa (Austin) White Feathers, Ryan (Ruth) Pompana, Krystal Harvey and Patty (Tony) Devine. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Brett (Lydia), Kristen (Kyle), Darcie, Healy, Sonjae, Brandon, Craig Weasel Fat, Kelly, Candace, Kyle, Baby Weasel Fat, J’arami, J.L. Weasel Fat, Aaron (Yolanda) Julian, Ramzi White Feathers, Trinity, Kassidy, Keanu Kayson and Nelly White Feather, great grandchildren; Latoya, Griffin, Chaliss, Lexus, Kadin, Trista, Persia, Nickeli and Harley, brothers; Bernard (Rita) Tallman, Andrew (Margaret) Weasel Fat and Joe (Helen) Spotted Bull, sisters; Pauline Tallow, Fanny White Feathers and Marlene Heavy Shields, aunties; Annie Day Chief, Betty Healy, Kitty Wadsworth and Louise Crop Eared Wolf, adopted brothers; Darrell (Ann) Williamson, Victor (Dophey), John Day Rider from Heart Butte, Montana and the late Arthur Wells, (Governor), adopted grandchildren; Alana (Ricardo) Crop Eared Wolf, Presley, Jazabelle and extended families of Weasel Fats, Day Chiefs, Healy’s, Scouts, Tallmans, White Feathers, Goodstrikers, Alex LeFarge from Crow Agency, Montana, Many Grey Horses, Mountain Horses, Prairie Chickens, Wadsworths, Crop Eared Wolfs, No Runners, Yellow Horns and Provosts.
Stan was born on the Blood Reserve on May 10, 1942. In 1950, he attended St. Paul’s Residential School until he was 16 years old. While at St. Paul’s, he met his life long friend and brother Joe Spotted Bull. They remained close until his passing. When they were both 16 years old, they joined the Kainai Cadet Corp known then as the Royal Canadian Artillary. In 1958 they went with the cadets to Vernon, B.C. Being a sports enthusiast, he played hockey with the Kainai Chiefs and later in 1980 with the Old Timers. He was a fast ball pitcher, a boxer and participated in track and field, even with his childhood injury to the leg he still managed to come in first in the running categories. He was a bus driver with the Kainai Bus Coop. By trade, he was a carpenter with Mr. Weston and he farmed on and off the reserve. He joined the Horn Society four different times. He participated in Sundance ceremonies in Heart Butte, Montana for five years. His love for horses included training and racing quarter horses. He traveled to many racetracks sometimes as far away as California. He retired from the track in 2000 with his winning horse “Scotta Streak.” During this time, he started his journey with his wife, Shelley and son Ryan on the Pow Wow trail supporting them in dancing and making many new friends and relatives. He enjoyed his participation as an elder with the children at Sayopi School. He started getting sick in Dec. 2006. He loved all of his family and always said, “Don’t fight, get along – we are all related.”
His wife Rosella White Feathers predeceased Stan in 1996 as well as his parents Fred Weasel Fat Sr. and Beatrice White Feathers, maternal grandparents Willy and Alice White Feathers, paternal grandparents Sam Packs His Tail from Eagle Butte, North Dakota and Bibi Davis, brothers; Frederick Weasel Fat, John Weasel Fat, Ralph Weasel Fat and Gerald Weasel Fat, sisters; Rosella Black Plume, Florence Weasel Fat and brothers-in-law Donald Black Plume and Roy Tallow. The family apologizes for anyone that may have been left out.
A Wake Service will be held at WHITE CALF CHAPEL, Standoff on Monday, February 11, 2008 from 6:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at GLADSTONE HALL on Tuesday, February 12, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with the Venerable Archdeacon Sidney Black officiating.
Interment to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

ALDWIN WHITE QUILLS
1984 - 2008

It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son ALDWIN WHITE QUILLS (JR.) on Monday February 4, 2008.
Junior as he was usually called, passed away at home on the Blood Indian Reserve in the morning hours with the rising of the new Sun at the age of 24 years old. Junior was born on January 27, 1984 at the Cardston Municipal Hospital. He is survived by his companion Kasey Day Chief, special friend Tashina Eagletail Feathers and his sons; Maleek, Casson and Zander.
He leaves to mourn parents Ernestine and Calvin Williams and Aldwin Healy, his siblings Kendall (Alana) Red Crow, Hawk Williams and Corey Scout, nephews; Isaiah, John, Cashton and Denzel, nieces; Kendra, Tailyn, Kayden, Jozee and Jada, grandmothers; Florence Red Crow, Rosie Red Crow and Isabel Healy/Fox, grandfather Clarence(Emily) Red Crow of the Sikika Nation, aunts: Barbara, Noreen, Marie Red Crow (Aldwin) and Patsy (Ken) Manyfingers, uncles; Calvin (Rose) and Frank (Annette) Red Crow, maternal cousins; Bradford, Jason, Felisha, Cassey, Sasha, Cory, C.J., Lisa, Ky and Paul Jr. and in-laws John and Delia Chiefmoon.
Junior acknowledged his mentor and best friend Calvin Williams, who taught him about his culture and heritage shortly before his passing and was very proud and respectful of our Blood way of life. He helped and performed different tasks for his parents during the Sundance and made sure that their tipi had a warm fire going and that his younger family members were fed and happy. Junior’s primary education included the W.A. Day School in Fort Macleod, Cardston Elementary School, Kainai Middle School, Kainai High School and the Red Crow Community College. Junior was very talented and outgoing, he was very friendly and easily made friends with new acquaintances young and old, he had a knack for easily comprehending and performing many different skills and trades such as: carpentry, automotives and auto body work. His favorite moments were being with and caring for his children and guiding his younger brother Hawk, cruising and listening to his favorite music, laughing, teasing and playing good jokes on his mom.
He was predeceased by his loving aunt and second mother Flora Red Crow, cousin Dave at birth, grandfathers Willie Scraping White, Peter Bignose, Mike Yellowbull, John Healy and Jim Red Crow, grandmothers; Loon Woman-Mary Blackwater and Ada Kadanaga, uncles; Rudy Healy, Fred Williams, John Red Crow, Maurice, Dennis, Leo and Arthur White Quills, Levi, Stan and Clarence Blackwater and aunt Mary Ann Blackwater.
We wish to apologize for excluding family members too numerous to mention.

A Wake Service will be held at WHITE CALF CHAPEL, Standoff on Friday, February 8, 2008 from 7:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. MARY’S IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Blood Reserve on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Pawel Andrasz Celebrant.
Interment to follow at the Blood Band Cemetery.

KELSO WALLS
1918 - 2008

KELSO WESLEY WALLS, beloved husband of the late Minnie Walls, passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritans, West Highlands on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at the age of 89 years.
Kelso was born at home on the farm near Aneroid, Saskatchewan on March 14, 1918. He excelled at school, graduating at the age of 16. Kelso began farming in 1934. He married Minnie Ella McConville in 1942 with whom he raised 4 sons. Kelso also took over the John Deere Dealership in 1942, running it until 1960 and continuing repair work until 1970. Kelso was active in the community, participating on the school board and the Aneroid United Church board of Stewards which he chaired for 2 years. Kelso and Minnie moved to Alberta in 1970 where he employed his mechanical expertise for Cardston Farm Service, Jupiter Prairie Farm Service and McKay Bros. He taught a farm mechanics course at Lethbridge College until he retired. Kelso was an avid reader, enjoyed singing in the choir, bowling and swimming.
Kelso is survived by his children; Bob (Ferne) of Aneroid, Elwood (Marlene) of West Lafayette and Tom (Karen Bader) of Lethbridge, brother Gerald (Lil) of Victoria, grandchildren; Rick (Randi), Lorrie (David) Cloutier, Fletcher, Jared (Annie), Thomas, Michael and Devon as well as 2 great grandsons Ryan and Tyler, several brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Minnie in June 2007 and beloved son David (Eileen) in January 2003.
A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Lois Punton officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, #207, 542 - 7th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2H1.

GLADYS MAY WYATT
2008
GLADYS MAY WYATT, beloved wife of Tom Wyatt of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 28, 2008 at the age of 91 years.
She is the loving mother of Bob (Di) Wyatt of Vernon, B.C., Brian (Sue) Wyatt of Airdrie, AB and Sandra (Dennis) James of Lethbridge. She is also loved by her eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at SUNRISE VILLAGE, 1730 – 10th Avenue South, Lethbridge on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 2:00 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at Scarboro United Church, Calgary on Friday, February 8, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.

VERNA “JEANE” (MILLER) WADDELL
1926 - 2008

It is with great sadness we announce that VERNA JEANE WADDELL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 surrounded by family at the Hythe Continuing Care Center at the age of 81 years.
Jeane will be remembered and missed by her daughters Wendy (Brendan) Harty of Milk River, AB, Dawn (Rene) Parsons of Fruitvale, BC, Dixie (Moe) Husereau of Wembley, AB, Son-in-law Jim Neil of Longview, AB. Grandchildren; Philip(Marie) Harty, Lorne (Jakki) Harty, Lorraine Harty, Ryan (Jacinda) King, Jordan King, Morgan and Raymond Husereau, Jennifer (Kris) Noel, Andrea (Jesse) Russell, Great grandchildren; Ethan, Elizabeth, Austin Harty, Treycen Harty, Nathanial, Jacob, Karis King, Bailey Russell.
Jeane is survived by her sister, Mabel Goranson, sister-in-law Dorothy Dangerfield, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jeane was predeceased by her husband John Waddell, daughter Marlene, and her parents William and Josephine Miller.
Jeane was born March 12, 1926 at Blairmore, AB. At the age of 5 they moved to the homestead at Lousanna, AB. Jeane attended school in Big Valley and High School in Edmonton. After completing her teaching certificate at the Normal School in Edmonton in 1943, she taught in one room schoolhouses throughout Alberta and enhanced the education of all her many students. Jeane married her cowboy sweetheart John Waddell in 1946 and they ranched on the homestead east of Coutts, until 1979, when they retired and moved to Lethbridge. In 1999 they moved to Grande Prairie to be closer to Daughter Dixie and family who provided care in their later years. Jeane always supported and encouraged her family to pursue their educational dreams. She was a strong advocate and supporter of woman’s rights and issues and passed this legacy onto her family.
Jeane will be remembered for her love of genealogy, flowers, reading, music and southern fried chicken. Jeane maintained her positive, peaceful attitude her entire life. Her caregivers always told the family how she touched their lives and “what a wonderful mom and grandmother you have.”
Throughout her life trials and tribulations she persevered and always said, “Now go dry your tears and keep your chin up”. She believed whole heartedly in a sense of fairness, forgiveness, kindness and the importance and love of family. We will miss her so much.
A private Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME in Lethbridge on January 11, 2008.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, 724 – 13th Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1H 2T1.

VALIDA WALL
2007

MRS. VALIDA WALL, beloved wife of Peter Wall of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the age of 66 on Thursday, November 22, 2007, surrounded by her family at the Chinook Regional Hospital after a long struggle with cancer.
Besides her loving husband, Peter, Valida is survived by her children Cheryl (Darrell) Burgess of Lethbridge and Sylvia (Dennis) Matis of Lethbridge and four grandchildren: Stephanie and James Burgess and Melissa and Sierra Matis. She is also survived by her sisters: Doreen Kroeker of Virgil, ON, Clara (Arnold) Willms of Lethbridge and Marianne Kroeker of St. Catherines, ON. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Annie Kroeker.
She will be greatly missed by her husband and best friend, Peter, after 44 wonderful years together.
Valida was dedicated to her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her family always came first, making sure that all were together at every special occasion to share a delicious meal. Many friends enjoyed her hospitality. She also loved reading, baking, and knitting for her grandchildren. She played a key role as the office administrator for their home-building business.
She handled her illness courageously, totally depending on her Lord for strength.
Family and friends may pay their respects at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Sunday, November 25, 2007 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at the COALDALE MENNONITE BRETHREN CHURCH, 2114 – 18th Street, Coaldale on Monday, November 26, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Randy Dueck officiating.
Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

ELFRIEDA WIENS
2007
MRS. ELFRIEDA WIENS passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at the St. Michael's Health Centre on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the age of 89 years.
She was predeceased by her husband George Wiens, sisters Paula Swanberg and Hildegard Karle and her grandson James Deiter.
Elfrieda will be greatly missed as she leaves behind numerous family and friends.
At the request of Frieda, there will be no service.

LUCILLE WIENS
1934 - 2007

On November 3, 2007, MISS LUCILLE E. WIENS passed on to be in the presence of her heavenly Father forever.
Lucille Wiens was born in Cochrane, Alberta on July 13, 1934 to Frank and Helena Wiens. In July of 1943 Lucille committed her life to the Lord and was baptized shortly thereafter. From then on her life’s ambition was to see others accept Jesus as their personal Savior.
Remembering Lucille with love are her son-like nephew William (Janet) Tymburski and their children Jordan, Ashley, Eric, Anthony and Joshua as well as three sisters; Katherine (Peter) Tymburski, Ellen (John) Hildebrand and Ruth Wyton, three brothers; Abe (Helen) Wiens, Frank (Olive) Wiens and Neil Wiens and three very dear friends and “sisters in the Lord” Helen Thiessen, Merle Woodley and Darlene McLay. Her many nieces and nephews and their children have lost a very precious aunt and great-aunt.
A Visitation will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 starting at 7:00 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at the COALDALE MENNONITE BRETHREN CHURCH, 2316 – 17th Street, Coaldale on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Randy Dyck officiating.
Interment to follow at the Coaldale Mennonite Cemetery.
