BAGDAN, Damian David
July 13, 1966 - July 31, 2004
Damian passed away peacefully at his home in Vancouver. He was born in Edmonton and attended his neighbourhood Belgravia Elementary School, Grandview Jr. High and Old Scona. He then studied at Harvard before moving to Toronto and finally to Vancouver. Damian is survived by his loving mother, Donna Bagdan of Edmonton, his brothers, Galen (Alejandra) of Toronto and Brennan of Edmonton, his father, Alfred Bagdan (Catherine) and their daughters, Mariel and Kara of St Albert. Damian had a marvellous way of bringing out the best in others. Damian showed genuine warmth and love, was thoughtful and generous. All who knew him will keenly miss his good humour, wit, intelligence and generous spirit. The family sincerely thanks Ian M. Thom, Dr. Joss de Wet and the staff at St Paul's Hospital for the fabulous support given to Damian during his illness. A time of reflection and fellowship will be held at the home of Donna Bagdan and Brian Heidecker, 220 Wolf Willow Road, Edmonton between 2:00 and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 8. BELCOURT, Barkley Jason
Barkley Jason Belcourt of Cold Lake, Alberta passed away July 30, 2004 after a valiant fight with cancer at age 35. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Cherry Grove, Alberta. Barkley leaves to mourn: his loving mother Lila of Cold Lake, AB; father Len (Linda) of Edmonton, AB; three brothers, Brad (Clare) and their daughter Brooklyn of Calgary, AB; Jeff (Gus) of Camrose, AB, Clint (Stacey) and their daughter Tanner and son Caden of Calgary, AB; one sister Lenna and daughters Marzena and Daisa of Cold Lake, AB; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Bark was a rather quiet, private person but has left a lasting memory to all of us who knew and loved him. He will be sadly missed and remembered always by his family. BREITKREUZ, Otto
On July 31, 2004, Otto Breitkreuz of Edmonton, went to be with the Lord at the age of 82, after a short illness. Otto is survived by Martha, his wife of 58 years, son Ed (Elaine), daughter Marlene (John), daughter Shirley, son Bruce, son Alan (Monica); eight grand-children, three great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. Otto was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and one sister. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 6, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Millwoods Pentecostal Assembly, 2225-66 St., with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. CHAPPEL, Mabel Nix
Mabel Nix Chappel, age 100, died March 5, 2004 in Ojai, California, of natural causes. Mrs. Chappel was daughter of Edward and Edna Nix, citizens of Edmonton for many years. She was born December 10, 1903, in Oklahoma and moved with her family as a child to Edmonton, where she was educated. Graduating from the University of Alberta in 1927, Mrs. Chappel was a high school English teacher for 25 years. Before moving to the United States with her husband, Nelson Chappel, she was an active member of Wesley United Church. She was a great reader and did wonderful hand work. She is survived by son John N. Chappel, of Reno, NV; daughter Ruth Sayre of Ojai, CA; daughter Lynn Gaaserud of Falls Church, VA; brothers Charles, Nelson and Ernest Nix, all of Canada; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Nelson Chappel, daughter Sheila Chappel, parents Edward and Edna Nix, brother Harold Nix and sister Charlotte Nix. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2004, at the Edmonton Cemetery at 107th Avenue and 120th Street with Reverend Aubrey Edworthy officiating. Lunch will follow sometime after 11:30 a.m. at Robertson Wesley United Church, 10209 -123 Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

CONNELLY, Dennis and Dixie
Both passed away suddenly of heart failure at their residence in Salmon Arm, BC on Thursday, July 29, 2004. They will be lovingly remembered by their two children Derick and Deanna of Salmon Arm. Dennis and Dixie had owned the Hummingbird Resort on Mara Lake for 17 years and had recently retired and were pursuing their retirement dreams in their new home in Salmon Arm. Dennis was also pursuing his passion of woodworking and gardening; while Dixie was always trying to improve her already perfect recipes and making her home comfortable for her family. Dixie Lee Connelly (Vanderwell) was born in Edmonton, AB on August 28, 1948. She was predeceased by her parents, Dick and Agnes Vanderwell and her brother, Jerry. She is survived by her brother, Richard (Jeanie) and sister, Theresa (Ken) Albrecht and sister-in-law, Irene. Dennis Wayne Eric Connelly was born in Calgary, AB on June 6, 1946. He was predeceased by his father, LeRoy. He is survived by his mother, Loraine and brothers, Tom (Debbie), Pat (Anna), Rod (Karen) and his sister, Janet. A celebration of Dennis's and Dixie's lives will be held from the Holiday Inn Express, Salmon Arm on Friday, August 6 at 1:00 p.m. If so desired, Derick and Deanna would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Box 1141, Salmon Arm, BC V1E 4P3. CRUTHERS, Gertrude Evelyn
July 17, 1914 - August 1, 2004
It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of our mother and grandmother. Born in Melville, Saskatchewan her family relocated to Edson, Alberta and then Edmonton. Gertrude married Robert on June 19, 1937 and they continued to live in Edmonton and raise their family. Gertrude is survived by her daughter Sharon; son Errol; and grandson Shaughn Cruthers, all of Edmonton. Gertude was predeceased by her husband Robert; parents Peter and Julia Eplett; sisters Ella Price and Helen Weiss. The family would like to thank Doctors, nurses and staff at the Norwood Palliative Facility for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gertrude's favourite charity, the Edmonton SPCA or the Cross Cancer Institute or, to a favourite charity.
