Brenda Mary Keates of Red Deer passed away at Michener Centre on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the age of 51 years. Brenda will forever remain in the memory of her father, John S. Keates; siblings, Valerie Keates, Louise Keates, Greg Keates, Elaine (Terry) Aronyk, Bob Keates and Jo-Anne (Jerry) Wright; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Brenda is predeceased by her mother, Dorothy S. Keates and her brother Brian Keates. She will be laid to rest with her grandmother, Sadie Ladret. Brenda will be lovingly remembered by her Michener Centre family for her mischevious nature and her love of the outdoors. A Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at Red Deer Funeral Home on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Red Deer Funeral Home, 6150 - 67 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment will follow in Edmonton at a later date. Brenda's family wishes to thank the staff of Michener Centre, especially longtime friends and caregivers, Marj Weelson and Ron Kroetsch. ROURKE, Floyd Orin
Dec. 9, 1923 - Oct. 24, 2011
We are sad to announce that Floyd Rourke passed on October 24, 2011 at the age of 87 years. Born December 9, 1923 in the Elkhorn District west of Ponoka, Floyd grew up in that farming community before enlisting in 1941 to serve with the Canadian Armed Forces in northern Europe as a very young man. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his role in battle there. Floyd re-enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces again in 1951 and was deployed with special services in Korea. He served with the Calgary Highlanders until 1966. Floyd was a loyal supporter of the Calgary Highlanders and was a familiar and much loved volunteer at the Museum of Regiments. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #285 and a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd for many years. He was an enthusiastic supporter of many groups and a dancer with the Calgary Square Dance Association. Floyd's great love was dancing and it was a recent event at the Calgary Danish Canadian Club where he and Jytte enjoyed their last dance together. Many will miss his sense of humour, warmth, dedication and faith. He was an ordinary man who lived through some extraordinary times. Floyd will be missed by his children, Timothy Rourke, Karen Welch, and Brenda Burwash; six grandchildren, Nina Van Staden, Bradon Brisbourne, Kristie Malone, and James, Joseph, and Hester Welch; two great-grandchildren, Reece and Leah Van Staden; and his sister Millie Nufer. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and his constant and devoted companion Jytte Anderson who shared many happy days with him in his later years. Floyd was predeceased by his parents, Samson Orin Rourke and Hester Mary Samantha Rourke (nee Remington) and his uncl,e William Charles Rourke. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Mewata Armoury, (801 - 11th Street SW) on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Services will be held in the Field of Honour at Fairview Cemetery (Lacombe, AB) at 3:00 p.m.

WALDNER, Alvin Arthur
There is grief and sadness, but also wonderful memories and laughter as we celebrate your life, but mourn our loss of Alvin on October 22, 2011 at the age of 58 years. He is survived by his children, daughter, Rhiannon (Darren), Sons, Derek (Melynda) and Jesse (Catherine). His Mother Shirley Waldner, Maternal Grandmother Helen Urban and companion Ida Mead. Sisters and brothers, Lydean (Lawrence), Donna (Kevin), Brenda (Raymond), Robert (Florence), Kenny (Angie), Ricky (Cathy). Numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends. Alvin was predeceased by his Father Art Waldner, nephew Chad Fradette and Marilyn Onushko, Mother of his children. Alvin was so very proud to be part owner of Rose City Memorials for the last 28 years. He was also an avid member of the Cut Knife Elks acting as Exalted Ruler over the last number of years. He was very involved in the community and was loved by all who knew him. A celebration of Alvin's life will be held in Cut Knife, SK on Saturday October 29th at 1:00pm at the Elks Theatre. Matthew Deller passed away at Grande Prairie, Alberta on October 22, 2011 at the age of 16 years. Matthew was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta on May 10, 1995. He was mainly raised in Red Deer, Alberta and moved to Grande Prairie in August 2010. Matthew had a larger than life personality. He was well known for his thoughtful ways and large heart. He was a great friend to many people, and his presence touched everyone he encountered. Matthew was always protective on and off the field. Matthew loved playing football with the Grande Prairie Composite High School Warriors and also loved wrestling and playing rugby. Matthew will always be a Warrior! Matthew will be sadly and truly missed by: Leon, Luke, Chance, Carmen, Alyssa, Darrian, Ryland, Leah, Alexis, and by the rest of his family and friends. Shannon Randeen Merlin (nee Seward) of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Friday, October 21, 2011 at the age of 50 years. Shannon will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Melissa and Danielle, her sisters, Janine and Lois, her niece, Nadine, her nephew, Miles her step-father, Harry and close family friends, Mary and Claire. It is with tender hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Iris Jenson into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Friday, October 21, 2011. Iris touched many lives in her 91 years. She devoted her life to friends, family and her Lord. Iris will be forever remembered for her endless energy, cookies, candy dish and love of family. Iris was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Jenson, her grandson, Shane Freeborn and son-in-law, James Freeborn. She will be forever remembered and dearly missed by her three children, Gail Freeborn, Donny Jenson (Yvonne) and Sheryl Kalutich (Peter) and her brother, Clive Hogue. Iris also leaves a legacy of six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. Allan, beloved husband of Mary and dear father of Rod, Greg, and Wendy (Clark), passed away in the Olds General Hospital on October 21, 2011. Allan was born to Carl and Helen Haarstad and grew up in Bentley, Alberta. He graduated from Red Deer High School. After graduation Allan briefly worked at his father's White Rose gas station. At this time he met Mary Makoloski and they were married in 1952. They moved to Olds where Allan was employed by Hudson Bay Oil and Gas. After 32 years of employment he retired as a construction foreman and a well-respected member of the oil and gas industry. During his retirement Al enjoyed many activities including woodworking, oil painting, bird watching and enjoying his grandchildren. A lover of the outdoors, his passions were golfing and fishing. A highlight in his life was completing a solo flight in 1975 in a Cessna 150. The family spent many holidays salmon fishing in various places in B.C. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Mary, son, Rod (Diane), son, Greg and daughter, Wendy (Tom) Clark; five grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) Webb of Olds, Angela Clark of Edmonton, Lisa Clark of Calgary, Allyson Haarstad of Kingston, Ontario and Blake Haarstad of Vancouver; two great grandchildren, Annika and Dane Webb of Olds and sister, Muriel (Les) Wenger. His humor and pranks will be missed by his many friends at the Olds Legion. As requested by Allan, the family privately celebrated his life on October 22nd, 2011. Ada Gogal of Red Deer, AB. passed away at a wonderful age of 92 years.
