Mrs. Mary Trotter
October 5, 1922 - September 23, 2007

MARY TROTTER (nee Miskiw) - After a brief time at the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre, from complications due to cancer, Mary passed away peacefully into heaven to join her beloved husband Graham who had recently pre-deceased her. Born in Myrnam, Alberta to Ukrainian immigrant farmers, Sam and Eva Miskiw, Mary grew up with her sisters Nellie and Hilda, and brothers Peter, Bill, Steve and Nick. She worked in Edmonton and Calgary before marrying Graham in 1950, and they enjoyed 57 years together before his death. Mary said he was her "soulmate" and all who knew them would agree. She was a meticulous homemaker, loving friend and mother. Mary loved to dance and sing, and sang with bands at country dances before marrying. She continued to sing at home whether alone or with the radio or tapes. Graham called her the "belle of the ball" and "my beautiful girl". Mary lovingly raised two children, Larry and Valerie in Ottawa mostly where Graham worked for the Canadian Press. They later moved to Edmonton where Graham eventually retired. Retirement was full of adventure, travelling to different parts of the world, including a couple of cruises with family or friends. Mary once greeted Queen Elizabeth on a visit to Ottawa. She thoroughly enjoyed her two grandchildren, and later had added 4 great-grandchildren. Many happy times and a full life, though always too frugal with herself, we will see her in every lovely summer's day. Mary will be greatly missed by son Larry (Yoka), daughter Valerie (Paul), grandchildren Colleen (Daniel), and Andy (Nicole), and the aforementioned brothers and sisters, along with her many dear friends, and countless relatives.
Thank you to the caregivers at Allen Gray who lovingly looked after her the last couple of months. Thank you to all the friends and family who surrounded her with love in her last days there. She loved you all!
A celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home, south of Wye Road on Range Road 232, on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 10:00 am. Interment to follow at Glenwood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre, 5005 - 28 Ave., Edmonton, AB T6L 7G1, in memory of Mary Trotter, former resident, 3rd Floor.
