He is survived by his wife Fern; son Dirk and his wife Lori and grandchildren, Jeff and Shannon; son Roy and his wife Eva and grandchildren, Michael and Daniel; son Lance and his wife Kathy and grandchildren, Megan and Erica; stepdaughters, Colleen Albert and Brenda Stinson and her husband Philip and granddaughters, Tauney and Sierra; stepson Dale Albert and his wife Michelle and grandchildren, Kasha and Jace. He was predeceased by his father James Reid and mother Jane Reid. Wray came to Alberta from Souris, Manitoba in 1954 settling in Calgary. He worked for the City of Calgary Electric Department until his retirement in 1982. The family lived at DeWinton from 1968 to 1933 and retired to Nanton in March of 1993 where he resided until his death. During his retirement Wray was very active in the community as well as an avid golfer and curler. He also acted in a number of Windmill Theatre productions in High River. Wray was also a very close friend of Bill W. for nineteen years. Services will be held at the Nanton-Parkland United Church on Tuesday, December 16, at 2:00 p.m., the Reverends, Britt and Dirk Jessen officiating. RUPP -- Anna Marie Rupp (nee Hartung) went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 12, 1997 at the age of 95 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Emma (Fred) Hildebrandt and Ella (Ian) Walker; her daughter-in-law Gloria Rupp; six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband David in 1982, her son Alfred in 1995, her grandson Dale in 1996, as well as her sister and six brothers. Anna was born in Brunnental, Russia in 1902 and she immigrated to Canada with her family in 1923. She and her husband farmed at Champion until their retirement in 1948. O think! SMISTAD -- Ivar Smistad passed away peacefully at Bethany Care Centre, surrounded by his family on, December 12, 1997 at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his wife Alice Jean; sons, Warren (Catherine), Rikard (Valerie Kinnear); daughter Ingrid Osborne (Kevin); and grandchildren, Ian, Carla, Breton, Erik and Andrew, all of Calgary. Ivar was born in Oksendal, Norway on May 12, 1910. He came to Canada at the age of sixteen. He worked at a variety of occupations and then attended Henderson Business College in Regina. In 1937 he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and served twenty interesting years, including two years as a Probation Officer for the Province of Nova Scotia. He also served in the Special Branch in Halifax during the war, acted as security officer during Canada's first mission to Greenland in 1940 and completed his final posting at RCMP headquarters in Ottawa. In 1957 her retired from the RCMP, moved to Calgary and started Mechanical Drywall. He also built many custom homes in Calgary and the surrounding area. His life centered around his family and the church. He served many years on the Council of Trinity Lutheran Church and was one of the founders of the Calgary Scandinavian Centre. Ivar was also a member of the Vasa Order. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and a sister in Norway, and a grandson Neil in 1980. He is survived by numerous relatives in Norway and Saskatchewan. SPENCE -- Mrs. Violet Spence (nee Matchett), born August 25, 1911 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, passed away peacefully in her Calgary home on December 11, 1997 surrounded by her loving family. She leaves to mourn her passing, three sons, Don (Dorothy) of Edmonton, Lynn (Wally) of Calgary and Vern (Bernie) of Calgary; two daughters, Margaret (Ken) Blair of Medicine Hat and Gwen (Darryl) Whillans of Calgary; as well as one dear daughter-in-law Maureen of Red Deer. She had thirteen grandchildren, Stephen, Sandy (Dean), Bob, Tracy (George), Shelly (Jason), Tracy (Mark), Mike (Kelly), Tammy, Jared, Spencer, Lindsay, Kristian and Scott; and seven great-grandchildren, Graham, Ginny, Trevor, Tyler, Giles, Easton and Cooper, who she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in April of 1975, her eldest son Michie of Red Deer on June 29, 1992 and grandson Chad on July 30, 1993. Words alone cannot express our gratitude to Wally and Lynn and Family for their unending care and commitment to our dear Mom's total well-being and happiness. SWANN-SACKVILLE -- Margaret P. Swann-Sackville (nee Brown) passed away at Peter Lougheed Hospital on Friday, December 12, 1997 at the age of 85. She was born in Innisfail, AB on April 4, 1912 and settled in Calgary in 1929. Margaret worked at Sears until her retirement and established herself as the first commissioned saleswoman in major appliances for the company and became the top sales person in Canada. She was Worthy Matron of Edith Cavell Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and recently received her 50 year pin. She was Past Guardian of Bethel 12, and past Grand Guardian of the International Order of Job's Daughters. Margaret was predeceased by her husband George Swann in 1970 and more recently, husband Nelson Sackville in 1981. She is survived by her son Jack Swann (Diane) and grandchildren, Rick, Lori, Glenn, Lisa and Jay; daughter Dorothy Casady and granddaughter Margaret; daughter Frances Anderson (Rob) and grandsons, Scott and Michael; daughter Lynn Davies (Norm) and grandchildren, Philip and Allyson; daughter-in-law Lyn (wife of Ferris Swann, deceased) and grandchildren, Bruce, Muriel and Graham. WERNAER -- Helmut Wernaer, beloved husband of Mrs. Mildred Wernaer of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on December 12, 1997 after a lengthy illness at the age of 85 years. Helmut was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1912. He served in World War II and came to Canada in the 1950's. For many years, Helmut owned and operated "The Gallery of Fine Arts" and a framing shop located in Calgary. Besides his loving wife, Helmut is survived by a brother Wolfgang of Germany; a nephew Ike of Texas; and a niece Gisela of Montreal, Quebec; as well as three stepdaughters and their families, Sandra Welsh and Brenda Gray, both of Calgary, Linda Cameron of Nova Scotia. ANDERSON -- Margaret J. Anderson passed away on December 12, 1997 at the Tom Baker Centre. Margaret was born in Dominion City, Manitoba on January 20, 1923. In 1952 she and her husband Art moved to Calgary where they lived and raised their family. Marg worked for Gulf Canada Resources for nine years until her retirement. She is survived by her son Ross (Sandra Daignault) Anderson of Calgary; daughters, Bev Leche of Vancouver, Nancy (David Glenwright) Anderson of Vancouver, and Pat (Kerry Davies) Anderson of Calgary. Marg is also survived by her six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. She was predeceased by her husband Art in 1996, as well as her parents, four brothers, one sister, and a nephew.
