Born in England, November 27, 1912, Edna came to Canada with her children in July 1949. Edna was predeceased by her husband The Rev. John Stokoe of Bear River, N.S. on August 4, 1980. Edna is survived by her daughter Carol of Toronto, and son John of Calgary; grandchildren, Fred of Portland, Oregon, Celeste of Toronto, Tracy, Michelle and John Jr. of Calgary; great-grandchildren, Drake, Nathan, Stephanie and Matthew of Calgary. Cremation and Memorial Services to be held at Queen's Park Cemetery by family members. Very special thanks to the Staff at George Boyack Nursing Home for being so kind and caring to our mother. ALLEY -- Jarrett John Alley, Forever Loved son of Jack and Sandy and sister Lauren (age eleven), of Calgary, passed away unexpectedly at the Foothills Hospital on December 14, 1997, after a heroic struggle due to complications arising from an aneurysm. Jarrett was born in Saskatoon, SK, Sunday, March 18, 1984 and moved to Calgary in 1991. He was a grade eight student at Cardinal Newman School and will be remembered by all as a determined, focused and organized young man who would carry out any project, task or athletic endeavor to the best of his abilities. Jarrett was an outstanding sportsman and athlete who loved hockey, soccer, running, biking, fishing and camping. He will be lovingly missed by his family and friends for his compassion, kindness to others and overwhelming "Love of Life". Jarrett is also survived by his great-grandparents, Walter and Mary Kopeck; his grandparents, Gordon and Irene Alley, and Don and Elaine Lischka; his aunts, uncles and cousins, Lisa and Barry Bugera and daughter Rayanne; Lorelie and Jeff Gordon and sons, Jayme, Joel and Trevor; Grant Lischka and son Andrew; Darrell and Angie Lischka and daughter Rebecca; as well as numerous great-aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. AU -- Shuen, of Calgary, passed away at the Agape Hospice on Tuesday, December 16, 1997 at the age of 86 years. He is survived by three sons and two daughters, Simon (Anna), Stephen (Cindy) of Calgary, Susan Wong (Thomas) of Hong Kong, Christina Chao (Patrick) of Vancouver, B.C., David of Calgary. Shuen will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by twelve grandchildren, James (Hillary), Helen, Eleana (Mike Palumbo), Albert, Mandy, Lydia, Angela, Allen, Giselle (Dr. Ron Lim), Eric, Kara, and Kristen; also three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Santyna and Alexia. He was predeceased by his wife Au Ho Tin in 1980, son Wilson in 1980. BAIRD -- Rose Baird passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on December 15, 1997 at age 81. She was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on January 21, 1916. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1973, also by a sister Anne (Jack) Evans, and two brothers, Frank and John Gardy. She is survived by five nephews, Don Evans of Portage la Prairie, Wendell Gonyea, Kenneth (Donna) Gonyea, Dennis (Willow) Gonyea, Donald (Beth) Gonyea; and sister Jo (Bob) Gonyea. Rose lived in Bankview Senior House where she enjoyed many friendships. Previously she was a volunteer worker at Calgary Cancer Society. She loved children. At Rose's request there will be a Private Memorial Service. The family appreciates the loving care she received by staff and doctors of Unit 59 of the Rockyview Hospital.
BENNETT -- Mr. Thomas Alfred Bennett, beloved husband of Mrs. Margery Bennett (nee Dafoe) passed away peacefully at their home on December 15, 1997 at the age of 66 years. Born December 10, 1931, Tom married Margery on May 22, 1954. He worked as an architectural hardware consultant in Calgary for over thirty years. Tom will be remembered and missed by his children, Karen and Ken Chapman, Ken, and Glenn; as well as by his grandchildren, Kendall, Kimberly, Thomas, Stephen, Lindsay and Stephanie. BERRY -- Dr. James Ralph Berry passed away in Midland, Texas on December 12, 1997 at the age of 84 years. Predeceased by his wife Bertha in 1995, he is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Vander Kelen (Ron) and Marilyn Weatherman, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and one son, Jaimie Berry (Irene) of Calgary; as well as four grandchildren, Kelly and Katey Vander Kelen, and Mark and Chad Weatherman. Born in Medicine Hat in 1913, he graduated from the University of Alberta with a B.Sc. M.D. and then specialized in Ophthalmology at Toronto Western. He served as a Major in the Armed Forces during World War II from 1939 to 1945. His medical practice spanned some fifty years in Calgary, Havre, Montana, Las Cruces, New Mexico and Midland, Texas. BUCHANAN -- Tom Buchanan of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home on December 16, 1997 at the age of 69 years. Tom was an active member of The Lions Club and held various positions in the club. He is the loving father of a daughter Jane and her husband Skip Charlton of Calgary, and grandfather to Vikki and Doug. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Lowe and Rose Dawn MacInnes, both of Burnaby, B.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his wife Muriel. CHAMBERS -- Nora Chambers passed away at Foothills Hospital on December 14, 1997 at the age of 76 years. Predeceased by her husband Howard in 1967 and by a brother John Heuman, Nora is survived by two daughters, Barbara Worwood (Don Parker) of Aldergrove, B.C., and Janet Kennedy (Steve) of Vermilion, Alberta; four grandchildren, Krista, James, Kyle and Derek; four brothers, Harry Heuman (Stella), Albert Heuman (Margaret), Jim Heuman (Olive) and Tony Heuman (Julie); three sisters, Elsie Maunier (George), Marianne Glazer (Ed) and Barbara Garvey (Terry); and numerous other friends and relatives. In her younger years, Nora served in the Armed Forces, General Services Division. She married her partner and best friend Howard, and together they built a home and raised two daughters. Nora maintained the family home until the time of her passing. She was employed with the federal government for a number of years, retiring in the late seventies. Nora enjoyed gardening, her family and friends, and travelling. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses on Unit 101 at the Foothills Hospital. CLISDELL -- Catherine Emily Clisdell of Calgary, passed away suddenly at her residence on Tuesday, December 16, 1997 at the age of 72 years. Emily was born August 5, 1925 in Timmins, Ontario. She moved to Calgary in 1968 and worked for Health of Animals. In 1973, she married Bert Clisdell and later moved to Kathyrn and to Airdrie where she worked for the accounting firm of Phil Wallis. During the Second World War, Emily served with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was presently a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Airdrie Branch No. 288. Emily is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-laws, Marie and Kevin Towns, Marilyn and Phil Bates, Isabell Clisdell; and a son Robert Clisdell, all of Calgary; and three granddaughters, Kayla, Brittany and Ashleigh. She is also survived by a sister Anne Magnuson of Connaught, Ontario; and a niece Billie Jeges of Carstairs, Alberta; as well as many other nieces and nephews. Emily was predeceased by her husband Bert in 1996 and five brothers, Albert, Bill, Ken, Jack and Bob.
