Ida was born December 2, 1910 at Sylvan Lake and lived in the Eckville area before marrying George Taylor of Cochrane on July 20, 1938. She will be sadly missed by one daughter Joyce (Bernard) of Stettler; one son Lyle (Brenda) of Cochrane; one brother Gus of Red Deer; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and numerous relatives. She was predeceased by her husband George on May 15, 1991, brother Gregor, George and Fred, and sisters, Anne, Gordie, Signe and Dagny. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ida's memory to the Emphysema or Cancer Societies. Memorial Service to be held at 2:00 p.m., October 27, 1997 at St. Andrew's United Church, 128 - 1 Street East in Cochrane (10/24/1997).
NGUYEN - Mrs. Kim Phuong Nguyen, beloved wife of Mr. Minh Do of Calgary, passed away at her residence on September 12, 1997, at the age of 38 years. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Vincent Liem Catholic Church (1405 - 8 Avenue S.E.) on Thursday, September 18, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. RASMUSSEN - Barbara Jean Rasmussen (nee Roland), beloved mother of Val, Gerri, Janet, Brenda, Blaine and Bev, passed away peacefully in her home after an extended illness, June 6, 1997. She will be greatly missed by her children, their spouses and significant others; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Born March 28, 1926, she was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Blanche Roland of Red Deer, and her brother Bob. She is survived by her brother Percy, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Barb graduated from the Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1948, and worked in Red Deer until she was married to Arnold Rasmussen of Standard, Alberta. They moved to Calgary, where she enjoyed a twenty-two year career as a maternity nurse at the Holy Cross and Rockyview Hospitals. She retired from nursing in 1991. Her generosity, practicality and sense of humour will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was always there for others - to listen, and provide support and understanding. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. P. Wong, Aunt Lois, and Velda Scott for their help in our time of need. RATCLIFFE - Passed away suddenly in Lethbridge on Monday, October 27, 1997, Mrs. Martha Ratcliffe, at the age of 70 years, beloved wife of the late Mr. Allan Ratcliffe, of Lethbridge. Martha is survived by three daughters, Martha (Lyle Smith) Ratcliffe of Fort Macleod, Penny (Ian) Chapman of Lomond and Lesley Alice (Daryl) Kirby of Calgary; and six grandsons. Martha was predeceased by her husband Allan on August 26, 1997. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 1997 in MARTIN BROS. TANCU - Mr. Gheorghe (George) Tancu of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Bow Crest Nursing Home on Saturday, November 1, 1997 at the age of 92 years. George was born on June 16, 1905 in Kishinew. He held a M.Sc. in Finance and a Ph.D. in Law. He resided in Kishinew, Bucharest, and Calgary. George is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Ana; his loving daughter Elena Tzanco; two nephews, Alex Betiu and his wife Ellen along with their daughters, Christina and Andreea, and Michael Betiu all of Calgary. NIELSEN - Kenneth R. passed away October 17, 1997 at the Foothills Hospital at the age of 67 years. Predeceased by mother 1967, father 1971; survived by brothers, Richard and Carl, and several nieces and nephews. NIEMI - Ida Maria Niemi passed away on October 19, 1997 at the age of 97 years, 11 months and 5 days, at the extended care unit of the Canmore General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband August in 1955, her sister Lydia in 1984, and her sister Lily in 1989. She will forever be lovingly remembered by her daughter Eila and her husband Mike Dyrgas; her son Melvin and his wife Elke; her three grandchildren, Darrel Dyrgas, Cory and Carolynne Niemi; and her two great-grandchildren, Parise and Destiny Dyrgas; her sister Jenny Latvala and her brother John Niemi; and by her many nieces and nephews and friends. Ida was born in Alavus, Finland on November 13, 1899; she came to Canmore, with her family in April in 1912. She resided in Canmore most of her life; after her husband passed away she worked at the Old Canmore Hospital for almost eighteen years. She also did a lot of babysitting and housecleaning for many families in Canmore, and loved every minute of it. She also loved her Bingos and playing Crib; she and her sisters spent many happy hours with their card games. Her love for life and her wonderful sense of humour will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. Funeral Services for Ida will be held on Friday, October 24, 1997 at the Ralph Conner Memorial United Church, 617 - 8 Street, Canmore, Alberta at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Catherine McLean officiating.
