Haileybury resident Paul Morin died July 23, 2004 at the Temiskaming Hospital.
He was born September 15, 1923 in Notre Dame du Laus, Quebec and moved to this area in 1969.
Mr. Morin was a yard foreman for Northern Pinewood from 1974 to 1990.
He is survived by his wife Noella (Lauzon) whom he married July 7, 1947 in Notre Dame du Laus; sons Jean Paul, Roger and Claude; daughter Gis le Plouffe; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral was arranged by Buffam L veill Funeral Home in Haileybury with the service conducted by Father Firmin Lafond at Holy Cross Church on July 26.
Pallbearers were Eric Plouffe, Pascal Boucher, G rald Caron, Andr Morin, Jean-Marie Tauvette and Marcel Morin.
Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Notre Dame du Laus, Gatineau, Val D Or, Aylmer, Oxford Mills, Ontario, Brampton, Kirkland Lake, Sudbury and Montreal.
Barb Batkin
After a lengthy illness, Barb Batkin of Bayfield died on July 23, 2004. She was two weeks short of her sixty-fifth birthday.
Mrs. Batkin is survived by her husband of 42 years, Doug Batkin Sr.; children Eunice and Gerry Bainbridge of Newmarket, Doug Batkin Jr. and his friend Monika of Clinton and Diane and Phil Birchall of London; grandchildren Jessie and Sydney Bainbridge, Josh, Jordan, Jaime and Jenna Batkin, and Eva Birchall; her father Arnold Beach of Zurich; siblings Vernon and Lucille Beach of Arizona, Dave and Helen Beach of Clinton, Christine Graham of Toronto and Ray and Dianne Beach of Goderich; sisters-in-law Irene and George Simpson of Hanover, Janet and Dave McCutcheon of Brussels; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother Jessie Beach, parents-in-law Lloyd and Isabel Batkin, brother John, sister Jane and daughter Sherry.
A private family service will be held at the Clinton cemetery. Following that the family invites friends to join them in a celebration of Mrs. Batkin s life at the Ontario Street United Church in Clinton on July 31 at 1 p.m.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Leukemia Research Fund of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
Margaret Jean Haddow
Former Haileybury resident Margaret Jean Haddow (n e Lusk) of Calgary died July 20, 2004 at the age of 78 of cancer.
She was born in Harley Township on May 2, 1926 to Henry and Margaret Isabel Lusk. In October, 2003 she moved to Calgary to be near her family.
She will be sadly missed by her children Lawrence, Bonnie (Terry) Pascall and Terry; grandchildren Darcy, Dawn, Stephanie, Kim, Trevor, Jessie, Kate, Dana, Marshall and Skye; and great-grandchildren Mathew, Madison, Sophia and Michael.
Mrs. Haddow was predeceased by her son Dale in October 2003 and her husband Roy in March 2004.
A memorial service and burial will take place in the fall in Haileybury.
Memorial donations to the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary would be appreciated by the family.

Jean Eleanor Thomson
Jean Eleanor Thomson died July 21, 2004 with her family by her side.
Ms. Thomson is survived by her children Alison Hunt (Victoria, British Columbia), Douglas Hunt and Ian Hunt; grandchildren Zoe and Caileighe; sisters Grace Walker of Oshawa and Margaret Nicholas of Toronto.
She was predeceased by her brother Bill Thomson of North Bay.
Cremation has taken place.

Donat Garand
Donat Garand died July 12, 2004 at Extendicare Nursing Home in Haileybury.
Mr. Garand was born in Woburn, Quebec, to Phillipe Garand and Emilia Allard on September 24, 1931.
Educated in Woburn, he moved to Ontario in 1952 and on December 1, 1956 married C cile Perron at St. Jean Baptiste Church in Earlton. He worked for Northern Ontario Milk Transport as a truck driver. Mr. Garand was predeceased by his daughter Ginette and her husband Moheed. He is survived by his wife C cile, daughters Micheline, Linda (Moustapha), sons Serge, Claude, Gilles (Sue) and Luc.
The funeral was held at St. Jean Baptiste Church in Earlton on July 15, conducted by Father Rolland Lapalme. Arrangements were made by Buffam L veill Funeral Home in Haileybury. Pallbearers were Serge, Claude, Gilles, Luc and Dominic Garand and Omar Khan.
Burial is at the Earlton cemetery. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Toronto, Oshawa, Sherbrooke, Maine, Arizona, Timmins and Kapuskasing. In memory contributions were made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
J. Allen Francis
Allen Francis died July 14, 2004 at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital. He was in his eightieth year. Mr. Francis is survived by his wife Shirley (n e Stanley); children Joan (Ken White), John (Jill), Gwen and Stanley (Wendy); grandchildren Jenny (Darren), Sarah, Latisha and Jerret; great-grandchildren Sam, Kelsey, Curtis, Ryan and Hailey; sisters Joyce Fricker and Margaret Francis (David). Mr. Francis was owner and operator of Lorrain Farms Ltd. from 1964-1975 and was instructor at the New Liskeard College of Agricultural Technology from 1965-1985. He retired in 1985 and with his wife Shirley relocated to the family farm in Renfrew. In retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming the family homestead. He will be dearly missed. Funeral arrangements were made by Anderson Funeral Home in Renfrew.
Thomas Duncan Hoyle
Thomas Duncan Hoyle died July 15, 2004 at the Temiskaming Hospital. He was born on May 22, 1916 in Bucke Township to Emma Generoux and John Hoyle. Mr. Hoyle served during World War II from March 21, 1941 to July 12, 1945 and was a decorated war veteran. He married his wife Carmel on May 11, 1946. Mr. Hoyle, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and St. John s Anglican Church, worked at Hill Clark Francis for 25 years and then at Rexwood prior to his retirement. He lived a good life and was an avid golfer whose golf score matched his age at 86. Mr. Hoyle is survived by his wife Carmel; son Ken Hoyle; daughter Sharon Hoyle; daughter-in-law Jane Hoyle; grandchildren Bobby and Bill; sister Margaret Ames (Fred); sister-in-law Phyllis Hoyle-Mood; and many loving relatives. He was predeceased by his brothers John, Ken and Chris and sister Violet. A celebration of his life will be held at an open house luncheon on Friday, July 23 at the New Liskeard Golf Club from noon hour to 2 p.m. Please RSVP to the Pro Shop at 647-6651 if you plan to attend. Mary Patricia Schaefer
The death occurred at Cranbrook, British Columbia, on Friday, June 25, 2004 of Mrs. Mary Patricia Schaefer at the age of 79 years.
Pat was best known as the Secretary to the Dean of the Haileybury School of Mines where she served for 33 years and was a lifetime Honorary Member of the Alumni.
The daughter of an Ontario Provincial Policeman, she lived in several Ontario communities as a child and young woman before returning to Haileybury where she lived most of her life. In recent years she moved west to be closer to her children.
She is predeceased by her husband Kurt Schaefer of Haileybury, sister Kathy (Alf) Holmes of New Liskeard and brothers Rick and Peter Simpson of Haileybury.
Pat is survived by her son Bob of Edmonton, Alberta, daughter Patricia of Cranbrook, B.C.; three grandchildren: Heather and Chris Gilroy, Cassandra Buch and two great-grandchildren: Freya and Noah Buch. Also left to mourn is her sister Florrie (Jack) Dewson of Barrie.
The Schaefer Family will receive friends at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home on Friday, July 16, 2004 beginning at 12 o clock. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Reverend Kitty Miller officiating.
Interment of the ashes will take place in the family plot at Mount Pleasant cemetery , Haileybury. There will be a reception and a time of fellowship immediately following the interment at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home.
Gunter J. Schoenijahn
Gunter J. Schoenijahn died at St. Joseph s Health Center in Guelph on July 9, 2004.
He was born July 17, 1920 in Osnabrueck, Germany. His family immigrated to Canada in 1930 and settled in Harris Township near New Liskeard.
He retired from the Canadian Military after a distinguished career in the RCEME Corp having served in Europe during World War II and with the United Nations Forces in Korea.
Mr. Schoenijahn was predeceased by his parents Karl and Elizabeth as well as his sister-in-law Frances Schoenijahn and brother-in-law Ben Ziegler.
He is survived by his brother John of Haileybury, sister Ellen Ziegler (Hank Ages) of Florida, nephew Roy (Linda) Schoenijahn and niece Audrey Schoenijahn (Dave Forsyth) of New Liskeard, nieces Betty (Aurel) St. Onge of Cambridge, Liz (Fred) Milsom of Sarnia, Linda (Doug) Goring of Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as numerous great-nieces and -nephews.
Interment is near his parents at Lakeview cemetery in Harris Township.
Funeral arrangements were by Perrin Funeral Chapel.
Raymond Foat
Raymond Foat from the Loon Lake Trailer Park, Cobalt, died July 5, 2004.
He was born in San Pedro, California, to Harold and Frances Foat on July 18, 1935.
Educated in California, he married his wife Margaret in Long Beach, California, on October 30, 1972.
In 1976 they moved to this area where he was the owner/operator of Loon Lake Trailer Park since that time.
While he was able, Mr. Foat taught children at the Loon Lake Trailer Park how to water ski.
Predeceased by his parents Harold and Frances, Mr. Foat is survived by his wife Margaret; brother Richard; sisters Beverly and Marion; children Barbara, Jeff and Vicky and stepchildren Wendell, Lois, Mike, Rose and Jim; and numerous grandchildren.
The funeral was arranged by Buffam Leveille Funeral Home in Haileybury where the service was conducted July 9 by Reverend Wally Wood.
In memory contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
Melvin Richard Sparling
Mel Sparling of Kenabeek died peacefully at his home on July 9, 2004.
He was born April 19, 1931 in New Liskeard. He married his wife Irene (Martin) on October 28, 1950 and worked many years for the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, but his main interest in his life was his farm.
Mr. Sparling was predeceased by his wife Irene, daughters Gail and Linda, son Freddy and his parents Fred and Myrtle Sparling.
He will be sadly missed by his children Melvin (Debbie) of Thunder Bay, Sandy (Jean-Louis Plante) of Kenabeek, Clarence (Kerry) of New Liskeard, Gary (Rita) of Kenabeek, Judy (Tony Jacklin) of Kenabeek, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, sisters Elta Little of Kerns, Babe Little and Donna Vorano of Hudson Township, three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
