WEISENBERGER (nee Francoeur), Mildred Catherine Wednesday, 23 Apr 2008
Parksville, BC
1921-2008
passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of Nanaimo General Hospital on April 23, 2008 after a long and difficult battle with COPD.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children Bill (Susan) of Parksville, BC; Cathy (Paul Hunt) of Edmonton; Maureen (Jon London) of Graton, CA and Lorraine (Christopher Bolger) of Ottawa. Cherished Grandmother of Stephen, Kevin, Aaron, Sean, Michael and Claire. Mom was pre-deceased by our Dad, Fred in 1991 and by her brother Bill during WWII.
Mom was a true Montrealer in heart and in mind. Mom returned to school as a mature student and graduated with an RN degree, working in the Neo-Natal Unit at the Montreal Children's Hospital. Mom left Montreal and many dear friends and moved to Parksville in 2004, quickly making close friendships at Newcomers and with her Bridge groups. Although Mom had her share of health issues over the years, she handled each challenge with determination, stoicism and a smile. A special thanks to NGH, Qualicum Manor and particularly to the medical professionals who kept "patching her up."
No service by request.
Cremation in Parksville. Interment in Montreal in August. Donations to a charity of your choosing. We'll miss you Mom!

Kaila, Kenneth Matthew Monday, 23 Apr 2007
Fort Saint James, BC
It is with sadness that we advise that Ken Kaila passed away April 23, 2007 at his home in Oliver, B.C.; he was 72. Ken is survived by his partner of 31 years, Phyllis Petersen, sister, Marlene Hahn, and brother-in-law, Ross Jewell. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Harvey and Ina, as well as his sister, Sheila Jewell. Uncle Ken will be sorely missed by his extended family who will always remember his dry wit and many lifetime stories. Born in Eckville, Alberta, the Kaila family moved to B.C. and Ken spent his early years in the Lower Mainland. He achieved his B.A. Sc. in Civil Engineering with UBC in 1964. Ken’s specialty was heavy construction and his career took him as far East as Manitoba, but a love for B.C. always drew him back. Ken and Phyllis called Fort St. James their home for many years until they retired to Oliver in 2000. An avid golfer, gardener and sports fanatic, Ken’s retirement years were full and busy. He departed too early, but Ken left little undone! At Ken’s request there will be no memorial. Any donations are gratefully accepted at wildlife charities of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Graham Funeral Home, Oliver & Osoyoos, B.C.

Schima, Mark Monday, 02 Apr 2007
Fort Saint James, BC
Born August 26, 1962, in Edmonton, Alberta, Mark passed quietly on April 2, 2007 after a solid fight against cancer.
Mark’s family moved to Texada Island, B.C. in 1963, and he grew up in a rural lifestyle of fishing, farming, logging, flying, sports, things he loved to the very end. Marks travels took him to the Okanagan, the Cariboo, and on to Northern B.C., where he found his true love - 18 Wheels. Open highways, mountain roads, and a “Place Where Everybody Knows Your Name”.
From Fort St James to Dallas Texas, along many hundreds of miles of blacktop and backroads, no load too challenging, Mark was never happier than his years as a “Diesel Tramp”.
Mark spent his past two years in Powell River, B.C. with his dearest Mother Peggy Schima, also leaves behind his sister Colleen of Powell River and brother David of North Vancouver.
No service by his request, donations in his memory may be made to 22 Red Knight Squadron Air Cadet (Powell River).

Memorial will be held at the Salvation Army Church Cascade Community Church, 35190 Delair Rd., Abbotsford, B.C. on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 3:00 pm. Donations to the Mission Hospice would be appreciated.
