STURGEON, HOWARD CHARLES passed away peacefully at Brock Fahrni Pavilion, Vancouver, on Saturday, November 3, 2007 after a short illness. Howard was born in Victoria on October 10, 1914 and grew up in both Victoria and Vancouver. He spent his youth working in logging camps on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. He and his wife Jean moved to Richmond in 1941 where he worked for North West Cedar Products. During the war years he was a member of the A.R.P. and became an active member of Richmond's Volunteer Fire Department. Howard became one of Richmond's first paid firefighters in 1956. He retired as District Chief in 1974. Upon retirement he and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout BC, and fishing at Campbell River. The past six years of his life were spent as a resident of Brock Fahrni Pavilion in Vancouver. Howard is pre-deceased by his wife Jean, son Jim and grandson Robert Sturgeon. He will be greatly missed by his family: Barbara Cheetham (Edward) grandson David Cheetham, grand-daughter Catherine (Yukinari Kusu) and great- grand-daughters Emma and Mae Kusu of Japan. He will also be missed by his nieces and many friends. The family wish to express their thanks to Dr. Nora Etches and the staff of Brock Fahrni Pavilion who have given so much in making his last years comfortable and created a warm and pleasant atmosphere for the last years of his life. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 11:00 am at Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Vincent Hospital Foundations Brock Fahrni Pavilion would be greatly appreciated.

Ruth Lowry "Aunt Ruth" of Courtyard Gardens, Richmond, formerly of Apple Green, passed away November 1, 2007 at Richmond General Hospital at the age of 95 years.
Ruth maintained her sense of humor, her mental and physical capabilities and her capacity to drive her own automobile until her passing.
She was pre-deceased by her first husband, A. E. "Bill" Gotobed in 1959 and her second husband, LaMar "Tim" Lowry in 1999. She was also pre-deceased by her four brothers and her sister.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Carol Bailey and Carol's daughter, Michelle Kleist (Randy) and her two children Rylen and Brayden and Carol's son, Chris. Ruth is also survived by a sister-in-law, Elsie Palmer and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.
At 9:30 am on Friday, November 9 family and friends met at the Richmond Funeral Home on Cambie Street following which interment took place at the Forest Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial service for Ruth was held later that day at 1:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8440 Williams Rd. in Richmond under the direction of Bishop Travis Wolsey.

HARRIS, Sidney Ernest "Sid" passed away peacefully November 1, 2007 at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Margot, daughters Risa, Sydney (Kevin) Carrick and granddaughter Kristine Carrick.
A service and celebration of his life will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey on November 8 at 11:00 AM.

Born May 15, 1925 passed away in his 82nd year on October 30, 2007 after a brief struggle with cancer. He is survived by his daughters Briar Harriett and Julia Chaplin Hahn, his son James Edward Hahn, his grandsons James Lee and Mathew John Van Exan, great granddaughter Madison Whitney Van Exan, twin brother David Hahn, sister Marion Bradshaw as well as his nieces, nephews, and numerous friends. Jim, born in Toronto, served in the army during the second world war, a hardworking engineer and entrepreneur remained active to the end with several successful businesses over the course of his life. A former pilot, avid fisherman, golfer and sports fan, we will miss his sense of humour, his stories, and irrepressible spirit. He will leave a smile in our hearts€¦long to be remembered.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, at the Army Navy & Air Force Veterans of Canada, Unit 284 Steveston, Richmond from 12:30 - 3:00 pm.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doug. He passed away peacefully in Vancouver surrounded by his family. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Elva of 61 years; son Doug Jr. (Carol); daughters Donna (Don), Lori (Colin); grandchildren, Shannon, Kerri, Shalene, Dennis, Karen, Krystle and Tanya; his great-grandchildren and siblings, Chuck, Connie, Byron, Shirley, Tim, also his cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Doug was a hardworking devoted family man who enjoyed fishing, flying and always had a funny joke or story to tell. Doug lived in Richmond for the past 71 years. He was a founding member of the ANAF Branch 284 in Steveston and remained an active member for over 60 years. A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 26th at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, Richmond.

WASIAK, Zdzislaw Anton "Tom", flew to the angels, away from pulmonary fibrosis on Saturday, January 19, 2008. Born in 1929 in Warsaw, Poland, Tom is survived by his devoted wife Barbara and daughters Angela (Peter) and Christine (Bruce), and granddaughter Dana. Tom leaves behind his loving sister Krystyna (Heniek) in Warsaw along with other friends and family in Poland, Canada and the United States. Mom passed away peacefully in Richmond Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by Nick, her husband of 60 years; daughter Rejane (Ken) daughter Heather Del. Grandsons Dan, Dean (Monica) Darren (Nikki) Granddaughter Tammy (Brian) and great grandchildren Brandon, Cassandra, Meghan, Sydney, Ashlee and Devon. Mom was pre-deceased by all 7 of her siblings. She was born in Priestville, Sask., moved to Frederickton, N.B. at age of 5 and lived there until she signed up with the Canadian Woman's Army Core in 1942. She spent 2 years in Canada and the 3 years in London, Paris, Brussels as a staff seargent before coming home in 1946. Mom and Dad met and married in 1947 and lived in Vancouver, then moved to Sacramento, Calif. In 1955 then settled in Richmond in 1960. Mom was an avid rock hound, loved nature and later in life took up oil painting and soapstone carving. She loved life and lived it to the fullest and enjoyed a good laugh with her many friends and family. A special thank-you to Donna Baron and the staff at Fraserview Intermediate Care Lodge and to Dr. Morton David for his care.
A Celebration of Mom's life will be held Saturday January 26 @ 11:30 am at The Monoru Chapel, located at 6540 Gilbert Rd., Richmond. Refreshments will be served following the service at Fraserview Care Lodge @ 9580 Williams Rd. Richmond from 1:00 p.m.- 2:30 pm.

Robert passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a valiant battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Mary, sons Bob (Ramona), Tony (Beth), and Chris, grandchildren Brennan, Malia, Jaida, Joshua and Zachary, siblings John (Brenda), Jim (Kathy), Jocelyn (Kevin), Susan and Cindy (Michael), stepmother Jean, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Robert's legacy is one of generosity of spirit, devotion to his family, and his tremendous contribution to the musical community, both as a teacher and performer. Robert loved life, and enjoyed nothing more than regaling friends and relations with stories and anecdotes. Special thanks to Dr. Harvey Halperin and all of the dedicated health care professionals who helped him through the final and most difficult period of his life. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 25th at 1:30 P.M. at St. Philip's Anglican Church, 3737 W. 27th Ave., Vancouver.
