Gloria Henriksen, a loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away Aug. 1, 2006 after a brief battle with cancer.
A memorial was held on Aug. 8, 2006 with interment in the Williams Lake Cemetery.
Gloria was born May 18, 1935 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Anne and Frank Foytik. She was the eldest of five children. Gloria was pre-deceased by her parents and her brother Frankie.
Gloria moved with her family to Red Lake, Ontario when she was about three years old where her father was a butcher. She completed her education in this small mining town.
Red Lake was a small community that offered Gloria a unique education in which she learned four different languages and completed 10 years of piano study. Gloria had a keen mind and was eager to learn about many things.
The family sold the butcher shop and moved to British Columbia when Gloria was 17 years old. Her first job was with B.C. Tel where Gloria worked as an operator for seven years.
In Haney Gloria was introduced to Ole by her father in 1961. The couple were married on Feb. 17, 1962 in Lytton B.C. Their first child, Leah, was born on Aug. 20, 1963.
The young family moved to Euclid Street in Vancouver on Oct. 31, 1964. The following spring their son Chris was born on Feb. 22, 1965. Gloria and Ole bought their first bakery, Scandia Bakery, on Granville Street on Nov. 1, 1967. This was Gloria’s initiation into the bakery life and from there she learned to be a pastry chef and baker.
In 1974 the family moved to Williams Lake and bought the Famous Bakery which they ran until Nov. 1, 2001.
Gloria had a zest for life and loved everything and everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her six grandchildren whom she always had time for no matter what. Some of her loves included swimming, rock hounding, reading, listening to classical music, and playing the piano.
Up until Gloria became ill in Jan. of 2006 she was instrumental in helping her daughter complete her nursing degree. It was the highlight of her daughter’s career choice to have her mother watch her accept her degree in June 2006.
Gloria is survived by her husband Ole, her son Chris (Frances), grandchildren Daryl, Teresa, and Jacob; her daughter Leah (Mark), and grandchildren Tristan, Natasha, and Kaj.
Gloria is also survived by her sister Arlene (Johnny), Betty (Bob), and Donna (Henry), aunt Rose in Ontario as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews plus many friends made over the years.
She was a wonderful person with so much to give and her passing seems to have come much too early. Her family loves her very much.
Gropp, Alexander Wednesday, 26 Jul 2006

Alexander Walter Gropp died tragically at Royal Columbian Hospital on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 after a workplace accident.
He is survived by his loving wife Darlene (nee Mackay) and his three beautiful daughters: Joelene, Keshia, and Darby.
They were his pride and joy and he often referred to them as his three little angels.
Alex was born, March 3, 1960 in Vancouver B.C.
He and Darlene made their home at Big Lake for a few years where their first daughter was born. Alex also spent a great deal of time and had many memories created at Rail Lake where he was a longtime seasonal resident since 1985.
He is survived by his parents Gunther and Lydia Gropp, his brothers Bernie (Cathy), Gunther (Janice), Brian (Karin), sister Helen (Jack) Rintoul, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and one great niece.
He is pre-deceased by his sister Eileen (Glenn) Loor.
He will be remembered by so many dear friends and a choice few of which Alex considered to be his brothers.
A celebration of Alex's life was held on Saturday, August 5, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Henderson's Funeral Home in Langley. For all those who wished to attend there was also be a viewing on Friday, August 4, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. Any donations made in Alex's name to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
Turnbull, Robert Monday, 24 Jul 2006

On July 24, 2006, Mr. Robert Henry Turnbull passed away peacefully in Kamloops at Royal Inland Hospital at the age of 94 years.
He is survived by his sister Kay Merrick of Kamloops and long time family friend Patricia Odine and Goddaughter JoAnne Maltais, both of Williams Lake and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his loving wife Rose Minto Turnbull on December 22, 1989.
Service arrangements entrusted to Schoening Funeral Service, there was no formal service, by request, and interment to follow at Lower Nicola Cemetery at a later date.
Bob had a very interesting life. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 7, 1912.
His career started in Abbotsford in 1944 as a B.C. Provincial Police officer.
He then transferred to Clinton and onto Alexis Creek. In 1950 it became the RCMP and he also was stationed in Fort St. James, Lumby, and retired in Dawson Creek.
Bob and Rose then moved back to Williams Lake, the little town they loved.
Bob became a brand inspector for many years and his wife was busy with her art work.
Still not determined to fully retire, he was a familiar face at the Stampede Ground sand riding arena as he was the caretaker and Rose was very active in the Arabian horse shows throughout the Cariboo.
In 1983 the Stampede poster was done in recognition of Bob, on the tractor working the Stampede rodeo grounds, of which he was very honoured.
In 1981 they moved on to Kamloops to reside, and he always wished he had moved back to the Cariboo that he loved.
Engstrom, Harold Friday, 07 Jul 2006

Harold Engstrom passed away in Deni House, July 7, 2006 with his wife and family by his side.
Harold was born in Seattle, Washington, April 14, 1914. In his younger days he owned a 200-head cattle ranch near Oroville, Washington.
In 1954 he moved the family to Williams Lake where he bought the Herbert Lodge, changing the name to the Valley View Motel.
After selling the business he went into carpentry work building a few homes, the present day hospital and other large buildings in town.
He then went into heavy construction working on all the major power dams in British Columbia.
He enjoyed good health his whole life and was proud of his youthful appearance.
He is survived by his loving wife, Edna, sons Fred and Rodney, two sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many lifelong friends.
Harold was pre-deceased by his parents, brother George and nephew Jaret.
There will be no service by request.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of choice.
Getz, Joseph (Joe) Wednesday, 05 Jul 2006

It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph (Joe) Getz announces his passing at Cariboo Memorial Hospital on July 5, 2006.
He is survived by his loving wife Alice, three children Terry (Marj), Trevor (Maggie), and Joanne (Bobby), and his grandchildren: Todd (Theresa), Shannon (Steve), Jennifer (Kurtis), Heather (Dale), Allison (Brody), Lisa, and Travis, also four great-grandchildren Parker, Brendan, Evan, and Diondra, plus many relatives, nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Joe was born in Lampman, Saskatchewan on July 7, 1921.
He was the youngest of nine children and is survived by one sister, Katie.
He attended school in Kingsford, Sask. He farmed and worked at Grundeen Motors in Estevan, Sask. Joe married Alice Stephany of Bienfait, Sask. on November 8, 1944. They moved to Duncan B.C. in 1946 where their three children were born.
Joe worked with his brother Dean in logging and also for Garner Brothers logging. In 1963, the family moved to Williams Lake where Joe was with San Jose Logging until he retired in 1986.
Joe was a great family man, loved and took pride in his family and enjoyed spending time with them all, and also with many friends.
Until his health prevented him, he enjoyed fishing, golf, curling, and he loved playing cards with his friends, which they did frequently.
Funeral service was held at the Sacred Heart Church with Father Tony Ackerman officiating. Roger Therrien, a long time friend, gave the eulogy. Todd, Shannon, and Travis also paid tribute to their grandpa.
Joe will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.
