SHAW, Vera Elizabeth (nee Blackwood) passed away peacefully on November 12, 2007 in Richmond, BC at age 99 after a valiant effort to recover from pneumonia. She was pre-deceased in 1964 by her husband George and by her four siblings. Vera will be remembered by her three sons Glen (Edna), Bob (Georgie) and Donald (Lorraine) Shaw and by her three grandchildren Gail (Scott) Pickard, Brenda (Wade) Ritchie, and Raymond (Line) Shaw. She was so proud of her four great-grandchildren, Blake, Claire, Madeleine and Joseph, and we are so grateful that they will have memories of their Great Gran.
Vera was born on Christmas Eve 1907 in Kenora, Ontario to Robert and Sarah Blackwood. She married George in 1926 in Saskatoon and moved to Richmond in 1944, making a home in one of the Boeing houses in Burkeville.
At age 66 she became a real estate agent and many families in Richmond will remember her for helping them find just the right home. She was very proud of the little bungalow she bought herself on Bairdmore Crescent. Vera loved to travel and even undertook a European cruise in her 80s. She was a wonderful pianist, played the organ, and loved all types of music. Fiercely independent, she lived in her own home until just a few years ago. She was generous to a fault, and loved to shop for and give gifts.
The family extends sincere thanks to the staff and residents at Courtyard Gardens in Richmond for supporting Vera in her last few years, and the staff at Minoru Residence 3rd floor for caring for her in her last few months.
No service by request. If you would like to make a donation in Vera's memory, please consider the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or Canadian Diabetes Association.
