Norm passed away peacefully at The Pines, with his beloved wife Thora at his side.

I was not alone. Celebration of his life will be held on April 19th, 2 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 Burns Lake.

Lorna Grace Gorley, a long time resident of the Shuswap area, passed away in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, on Monday, March 24, 2008 at the age of 81 years.
A Celebration of Life Service was held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home on Saturday, March 29th at 1:30 p.m. with Capreece Bowers presiding. Prayers were given by Father George LaGrange OMI.
Cremation with interment to follow at a later date at Uncha Lake, near the family cabin.
Born in Anglemont, BC on May 11, 1926, Lorna lived a full and active life. She was born to the long-time Hudson family, who homesteaded in Anglemont. Lorna grew up in the Salmon Arm area, and later moved to Northern B.C. with her husband, Orval, and raised their family. They returned to the Shuswap area in 1986. She enjoyed knitting, golfing, bowling, curling, fishing, and spending time at their cabin on Uncha Lake.
She is pre-deceased by five of her sisters; Evelyn Glover, Dorothy Oppertshauser, Bessie Watson, Toody Watts, Mary Matthews, and her brother, George. Lorna leaves her husband, Orval; one son, Alan (Charlotte) of Victoria; one daughter, Lauren (Barry) Friesen of Salmon Arm; four grandchildren, Adam, Meghan, Doug and Graham; one sister, Hazel Smith, of Kamloops; two brother-in-laws, Peter Matthews and Hartley Watts; sister-in-law, Arden Hudson; and many extended family members.

NOURSE, Maynard (Dick) Friday, 21 Mar 2008

Maynard (Dick) Nourse eldest son of Matthew and Ina Nourse, made his final journey home March 21, 2008 at the age of 90.
Predeceased by his parents Matt and Ina Nourse, his wife of over fifty years Marilyn, second wife Pat, sister Olive Vollan, and brother Charles Nourse.
Dick left Burns Lake as a teenager, moved to Vancouver BC, and later to Detroit Michigan, where he became an air traffic controller. Dick was also a pilot, ham radio operator, local video historian, and excellent ballroom dancer.
His heart was always in Burns Lake and when he and his wife Marilyn retired they bought their lakeshore property. Dick enjoyed traveling but he was happiest at home looking out over Françoise Lake, bird watching, fishing and duck hunting.
Dick had a tireless sense of humor and over the years gathered quite a collection of stories, which he loved to tell. His warmth and generosity will be missed by all who were part of his life: sister-in-law Patricia Nourse, niece Rita (Nourse) Hiatt (Larry ) and children Den and Nick (Fawn) Hiatt, nephew Ron Nourse (Gloria) and children Jennifer, (Travis) Steve and Allison Nourse, niece Karen (Vollan) Patrick and daughter Morgan Mallett, nephew Maynard Vollan, and children Christopher, Kevin and Heather.
What a beautiful memory he left for all of us.
Karen, Ron and Rita thank the staff at Tweedsmuir House, Lake District Hospital doctors and nurses, John and Sandra Barth, Judy Stratton, and Monika Rush, for being with Dick during his final days. No funeral by request. A dance in Dick’s memory is planned for a later date.

Wicktorya Louise Benedict, age 90, of Union, Oregon died March 21, 2008 at a local care facility. There will be no public services but those who wish may contribute to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Mrs. Benedict (Vicky) was born on January 1, 1918, the daughter of Henry and Sophie Patrick in St. Louis, Missouri. She married Benjamin S. Benedict, a United States Navy retiree, on June 8, 1948 in Honolulu, Hawaii. They owned a ranch at Francois Lake, B.C., until moving to Cove, Oregon in 1980. In 1992 they moved to Union, Oregon. She loved her family, crocheting and cooking.
Survivors include her husband Benjamin S. Benedict, Sr. of Union; her sons, Benjamin Benedict, Jr. of Ogden, Utah, Henry Benedict of Cove, Oregon and Ralph Benedict of Union; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brothers, Gene Patrick and Eddy Patrick, both of St. Louis, Missouri.
HOCQUARD, Percy Donald Friday, 14 Mar 2008

Family and friends were saddened to hear of the death of Percy Donald (Sonny) Hocquard on Friday, March 14, 2008 after losing a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. He was 70 years old.
Donald was the only son of Percy and Eva (Young) Hocquard and brother to the late Helen (Hocquard) McDavid of Campbellton, New Brunswick. He was also pre-deceased by his beloved wife Mary Myrtle (Van Horne) Hocquard from Shives-Athoville, New Brunswick and later of Fort Nelson, BC. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Hocquard of Prince George, BC.
He was born in Restigouche County, Campbellton, NB. where he attended local schools graduating in 1958. He moved to Fort Nelson, BC. in the late 1970’s where he worked for many years at West Coast Energy. He later moved to Burns Lake, BC and spent many years at his cabin on the lake, fishing and enjoying his retirement.
Many thanks to the Burns Lake Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care of Donald making his final days peaceful. As per his request, he will be cremated and buried beside his wife in Fort Nelson, BC.
HORST, Jacqueline Florence Sunday, 02 Mar 2008

Jackie (Brown) Horst passed away March 2, 2008, in Vancouver General Hospital. Born in Burns Lake, she lived in Fort St. John since 1951, but made almost yearly visits ‘back home’, once the Hart Highway was completed. Jackie was pre-deceased by her mother, Florence (Brownie) Harrison and step-father, ‘Uncle Bill’ Harrison.
She will be long and lovingly remembered by her numerous friends and the many children (and their parents) that she provided day care for in her home over the past 30 years.
She will be sadly missed by her close family - Daughters: Beverley (Terry) Baker, Shirley Horst; Sons: Brian (Carole) Horst, Darryl (Wendy) Horst; Sister Alberta (Birdie) Madigan, half-sister Judy (Reid) Challis, and half-brothers Danny (Helen) Harrison and Jim (Louise) Brown. Grandchildren: Niki, Adam, Ashly, Caitlin, Conor, and Deni-Rae.
A memorial service was held in Fort St. John, March 10, 2008.
STEPHENSON, Robert "Bob" James Wednesday, 20 Feb 2008

Bob was born in New Westminster, BC, the third child to Bea and Charlie Stephenson. He was raised in Burns Lake where he later met his future bride, Ivy Comeau. They moved to the Lower Mainland where they married and their two sons Chad and Cory were born. They returned to Burns Lake in 1975 with their young family where Bob worked for the Department of Highways. Bob then spent fifteen years with CN Rail, later working for PNG, resulting in a transfer to Terrace where they lived for thirteen years. In 2006 they decided to have an adventure and moved to Port Hardy to manage an apartment building. This also had the advantage of bringing them closer to their son Cory, daughter-in-law Lindsay, and grandson Ethan. Bob became a part of Port Hardy and loved living on the ocean. He passed peacefully on February 20, 2008 in the Port Hardy Hospital from pancreatic cancer.
Bob is survived by Ivy, his wife of thirty-five years, son Cory (Lindsay), grandson Ethan, grandson Evan Jennings, brothers Charles (Mary-Lou), John (Gill), Randy, sisters Diane and Wendy, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son Chad, sister Brenda, parents Bea and Charlie, brother-in-law Jim Buller and niece Jessica Buller.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 16th, 2:00 o’clock at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 50, where Bob was a member for 25 years. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to any cancer society.
