Folden, Herman Lawrence (Tubby) Sunday, 06 Apr 2008

Born June 29, 1938-April 6, 2008
Lawrence passed away suddenly, leaving to mourn his loving wife Ida, sister Gladys (Allan) Thorp and family, brother Dwayne (Gail) Perry and family, numerous nieces and nephews, step-daughter Dorothy (Bernie) Pratt, grandchildren Sandy (Anthony), Russell (Nicki), Laurie (Blake), and six great-grandchildren, Ida’s daughter Tammy, son Rob (Cindy), grandchildren Tyler, Breanne, Braiden and Theiren. Lawrence was pre-deceased by his parents, stepfather Calvin, mother Isabelle Perry, father Herman Folden and first wife Clara.
Lawrence drove many miles visiting family and friends and he welcomed any visitor to his home. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, hunting, fishing and many other sports. His laughter and role as Santa Claus will be missed by all friends and family.
No funeral by request but a Celebration of Life was held at the Hart Pioneer Centre in Prince George on Saturday, April 19, 2008.
Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Avis Jacqueline Morgan passed away March 29, 2008, in Langley, B.C.
Avis spent most of her life in northern B.C., moving to Langley in 2002 to be nearer to her kids and medical attention.
Smithers was always so special to her. She loved the people, the town and the scenery. Avis was a loving, caring person and was compassionate and dedicated to all her patients and clients while she worked as a Practical Nurse and a Homecare Worker.
She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Rob) and grandson Jordan, her son Mike (Julie) and grandson Niko; as well as sisters Jean (Arden) and Cathy, brothers Denny (Sandy) and Jamie (Diana) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends meant so much to Avis. She has a special place in all our hearts and will be remembered with love.

Celebration of Life
Lorna Grace Gorley, a long-time resident of the Shuswap area, passed away in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, B.C., on Monday, March 24, 2008, at the age of 81 years.
A Celebration of Life Service was held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home on Saturday, March 29, at 1:30 p.m. with Capreece Bowers presiding. Prayers were given by Father George LaGrangen OMI.
Cremation with interment to following at a later date at Uncha Lake, near the family cabin.
Born in Anglemont, B.C., on May 11, 1926, Lorna lived a full and active life. She was born to the long-time Hudson family who homesteaded in Anglemont. Lorna grew up in the Salmon Arm area and later moved to northern B.C. with her husband, Orval, and raised their family. They returned to the Shuswap area in 1986. She enjoyed knitting, golfing, bowling, curling, fishing and spending time at their cabin on Uncha Lake.
She is pre-deceased by five of her sisters: Evelyn Glover, Dorothy Oppertshauser, Bessie Watson, Toody Watts, Mary Mathews, and her brother George.
Lorna leaves her husband Orval; one son, Alan (Charlotte) of Victoria; one daughter, Lauren (Barry) Friesen of Salmon Arm; four grandchildren, Adam, Meghan, Doug and Graham; one sister, Hazel Smith of Kamloops; two brother-in-laws, Peter Matthews and Hartley Watts; sister-in-law, Arden Hudson; and many extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorna’s memory may be made to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation, Box 265, Salmon Arm, B.C., V1E 4N3.

Gilbert (nee Schultz), Gisela Sunday, 16 Mar 2008

Gisela Gilbert died on Sunday morning, March 16, at the age of 82. She was born in Jabel, Germany in 1925, married Richard (Dick) Gilbert (1917-1995) in 1955 and came to Smithers the same year. They operated a number of small sawmill camps where she did the cooking and built their home in the Driftwood Area below the old Gilbert farm. Their sons Frank and Axel grew up and went to school there.
She was always known for her good cheer and generous hospitality. Friends and family were always welcome to drop in and all special occasions were duly celebrated.
She is survived and will be sadly missed by her sons Frank and Axel, her sisters Rosemarie Kossman, Christine (and Janos) Toth and her brother Dietrich Schultz, her in-laws Ronnie and Florence Gilbert and her nephews and nieces.
The family wants to express their thanks to the staff at BV District Hospital and Dr. Scholtz for their unfailing and generous care and kindness. Cremation will be conducted by Schrader’s Funeral Home.
Gisela was always happiest sharing good times with family and friends. To celebrate her love of life we had a joyful gathering on Friday, March 21 at The Old Church.
No flowers please, but donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

Clarke, Marjorie, Joan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 surrounded by those who loved her.
Joan was pre-deceased by beloved husband Clifford, her much loved sister Mavis and brother Harold. She will be lovingly remembered by children Dianna (Rick) Lenihan, Russell (Karen) Clarke, grandsons Brent (Kim) Martin and Kevin Martin. Joan enjoyed the pleasure of her great-grandchild Halle Martin.
Together with her husband, Clifford, Joan came to Canada from Manchester, England in 1952. She made many life long friends and kept in touch with family overseas throughout her time in Canada. She will be deeply missed by all.
Joan will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humour, commitment to family and friends and love of conversation. Joan had a sense of adventure and at the age of 83 moved to Smithers, British Columbia (Silver King senior’s residence) from Edmonton, Alberta (Churchill senior’s residence) to be with her family.
Joan will be sadly missed by family and friends. The family gives their sincere thanks to Dr. Haskins, Dr. Wood an nursing staff at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital.
As per Joan’s wishes a private family memorial celebrating her life was held Friday, March 7, 2008 at RA Schrader Funeral Chapel, Smithers, British Columbia.

Widmark, Gertrude Elizabeth Saturday, 01 Mar 2008

Gertrude Elizabeth Widmark, better known as Gertie, passed away peacefully on March 1st 2008 in Wrinch Memorial Hospital, Hazelton with family at her side. Gertie was born at Munson, Alberta, April 29th, 1917 to John and Francis Miller. At the age of 2, the family moved to a farm at Tappen, B.C. where Gertie grew up and attended the Carlin School.
On June 15th 1939, she married her lifetime partner, Stan Widmark. From 1939 to 1958, Gertie & Stan lived at various locations in the north Okanagan. In the springs of 1958, they moved to South Hazelton where in a very short time she became Aunty Gertie to the neighbourhood children. In 2006, Gertie was no longer able to live in her South Hazelton home, so moved to the new Skeena Place facility where she enjoyed many happy times with her new family.
Among her many interests, Gertie loved gardening, knitting and hooking rugs. She was a life member of the Women’s Institute and enjoy many active years fund raising for their various charities. After Stan retired, they traveled extensively and she especially enjoyed Vera Heggie’s tours where she met many lasting friends.
Gertie is pre-deceased by her three brothers and her loving husband of 60 years. She is survived by sons, John (Tanya), Lawrence, aka “Bud” (Vickie) and foster daughter Nancy (Len), five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who will all miss her.
Gertie will be laid to rest beside her loving husband in the Two Mile cemetery where the beautiful Rocher de Boule mountain overlooks the valley.
To celebrated her life an open house and tea is planned for May 17th, 2008, at 1 p.m. to be held at her former home of 45 years in South Hazelton, where each of her family and friends can remember her in their own special and unique ways. In lieu of flowers, Gertie would have appreciated that you make a donation to the Skeena Place Transportation Fund, Upper Skeena Hospice Society or to a charity of your choice.

Tonnesen, Carol Ann Monday, 25 Feb 2008

Carol Ann Tonnesen passed away at her home in South Hazelton on the morning of February 25. Carol was born in Vancouver the second child of Helen and Windsor Miller. After a short time in Vancouver they moved to Grand Forks where Windsor Miller passed away when Carol was five years old. Helen then moved with her young family to Smithers where her family lived. In 1966 Carol married Edward Tonnesen and moved to South Hazelton where she resided until her passing.
Carol is survived by her brother Larry (Marion) Miller and her two sisters Joan (Gary) Rysavy and Cathy Burgess. She is also survived by her husband, Edward, three children Robert, Steven (Sue), and Charissa, and two grandsons Oliver and Aodhan.
Carol was cremated and a funeral service was held for her at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Hazelton on February 29, 2008.

Wendy Little of Anahim Lake passed away March 1, 2008 at the age of 52. A Celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 1:00pm at the Anahim Lake Community Hall. Donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation.
