Pugh, Eluned Eurona (Rona) passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 24, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Born October 31, 1921 in Tywyn, Great Britain, she came to Canada as a war bride in 1945. Rona will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Iory of 62 years, children, Bryan (Tove), Marina (Stan) all of Calgary, George (Joanne) of Summerland, grandchildren: Shaun, Jason, Stacey (Josh), Thomas (Renee), Sarah and Jessica. Sadly pre-deceased by her son, Richard in 1975. Special thanks to the staff of the Summerland Seniors Village Unit “D” for their excellent care and kindness. A private memorial service will be held.

Eric Brekkaas of Summerland passed away January 23, 2008 at the age of 94. He is survived by his children; Ellen Clay (David) of Summerland, Clifford Brekkaas (Myrnie) of Cecil Lake, Shirley Carter of Summerland, JoAnn Brekkaas of Summerland, Dennis Brekkaas (Marion) of Dawson Creek and Philip Brekkaas (Anya) of Maple Ridge, 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Sadly pre-deceased by his loving wife Hilma, two daughters, one son-in-law, one granddaughter and eight siblings. Born in Kvahl, Norway on November 23, 1913 to parents Klaus and Emma Brekkaas, Eric was one of 10 children. The family immigrated to Canada in 1928 and settled in Poplar Hill, situated north of Grande Prairie, Alberta. There he met Hilma Garberg, the love of his life, and they married in 1939. They were blessed with eight children, Eric and Hilma farmed in the Peace Country for many years as well as owning and operating sawmills along the Alaska Highway for twenty years. They retired to Summerland in 1975, bringing with them their three youngest children. Eric lost his loving wife of 45 years in 1984. Eric’s love for his family was evident in all he did. His twinkling eyes, wonderful wit, strength, compassion and loving heart will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Services were held January 28, 2008 at Summerland Pentecostal Church with Pastor Jean Miller officiating. Interment followed at Canyon View Cemetery, Summerland, B.C.

Dorene Helen Fehr Of Summerland, B.C. passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at the age of 64 years. Survived by her loving family; daughter Jodie (Todd); son Scotty (Shawna), sisters and brothers: Katie, Mary, Lisa (Hugh), Nettie, Agatha (Jules), Margaret (Kenneth), Jean plus numerous relatives and friends. Dorene was born and raised in Meadow Lake, SK but made her home early in life in the Okanagan. She made a loving home and raised Jodie and Scotty in the house she loved in Summerland. Over the years Dorene worked at B.C. Tel, H&R; Block, Woodward’s and the Bay. She will always be remembered for her sweet smile and her love of the outdoors. Dorene was happiest when she was outside, especially when she was gardening, woodworking or messing around with rocks. She had the ability to excel at anything she tried her hand at, whether it be tiling floors or making the best apple pie around. Dorene spent time traveling on her own and with Scotty, and she enjoyed gardening with Jodie. Her enduring sense of humour and kind heart will be missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 9th, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. from Rosedale Memorial Chapel, 13205 Rosedale Avenue, Summerland, B.C. with Pastor Rick Gay officiating. Interment will follow in Canyon View Cemetery, Summerland, B.C. Memorial Tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Moog and Friends Hospice House Penticton.

KILLICK, Robert Wednesday, 23 Apr 2008

Robert “Bob” Gordon Killick, longtime resident of Summerland went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the age of 92 years with his family by his side. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Alice of Summerland; son, Cliff (Mary Ann) of Burns Lake; three grandchildren, Rana Jockem, Shauna Schwartz and Debbie Cassidy and six great-grandchildren. He was sadly pre-deceased by his son, Kenneth Robert in 2000. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Rosedale Memorial Chapel, 13205 Rosedale Avenue, Summerland with Reverend Richard Finlay officiating. The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Fullard for being a wonderful doctor and person. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Providence Funeral Homes.

SMITH, Roy Wednesday, 16 Apr 2008

Roy Edmund Smith of Summerland, B.C. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 16th, 2008 at the age of 89 years. He is survived by his loving family: Gordon (Caroline) Smith of Fort Nelson, B.C., Warren (Diana) Smith of Westside, B.C., Barry (pre-deceased) Val Smith of Summerland, B.C., Alvin (Dawn) Smith of Fort Nelson, B.C., numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was sadly pre-deceased by his loving wife, Vernice, in April 2006, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. Born Sept. 11, 1918 in Summerland, Roy spent his entire life in Summerland with the exception of 2 short stints away. In the early 1940’s, he travelled by auto to Verdun, Quebec to assist in the manufacturing of Bomber aircraft for the war effort. It was in Verdun that he met his bride to be, Vernice McKeogh (Smith) and shortly after returned to Summerland where they were married in “The Summer of 42” taking over the Smith orchard at the head end of Garnet Valley, farming until the early 1970’s. Roy then moved to Kelowna in the mid 1970’s where he culminated his Insurance careers as Head Crop Insurer, retiring in 1983, moving back to Crescent Beach, Summerland for the duration. Roy, his father Arthur, and others were founding fathers of the Credit Union in Summerland. Roy will be sadly missed by family and friends, particularly for his generosity, good-naturedness and charm. Funeral Ceremony was held on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from Holy Child Catholic Church, 14010 Rosedale Avenue, Summerland, B.C. with Celebrant Father Sebastien Puthenpura. Interment will follow on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Canyonview Cemetery, Summerland, B.C. Memorial tributes may be made to Summerland Extended Care, Dr. Andrew Pavilion’s Therapeutic Gardens, Summerland, B.C.

Karen Louise Fulton Born August 19, 1952, Fort William, Ontario passed away peacefully April 15, 2008 at 16:13 in Summerland, B.C. Comforted by her husband and three daughters; Karen fought a long and difficult battle against cancer with courage and dignity. Karen is survived by her loving husband Bill, and beautiful daughters; Ashley, Kaitlin, and Maegan, her parents Nelson and June Miles, three sisters Cindy (Dave) Hurl, Tracy (George) Meikle and Suzan (Randi) Bochinski, nieces Kristen, Nicol and Devyn, and nephew David. Family was most important to Karen and her happiness came from being a mother. Karen graduated from the Psychiatric Nursing Degree Program in Salisbury England and later became a Registered Nurse in Victoria, B.C. Karen was an accomplished artist as evidenced by her many beautiful watercolor pieces. Karen was a much loved wife, mother, sister and friend to so many. She will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 3rd, 2008 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the IOOF Hall in Summerland, B.C. Memorial tributes may be made in Karen’s honor to the S.O.S. Medical Foundation, ONCOLOGY Dept. 550 Carmi Avenue, Penticton, B.C. V2A 3G6.

Jessie was born in Saskatoon, SK and was raised in Tisdale, SK. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1934 and married her husband LOU in 1939. They lived in Saskatchewan until moving to Kelowna in 1962. She nursed at the Kelowna Hospital until retiring in 1974 and moved to Summerland in 1991. Jessie was pre-deceased by her husband LOU in 1991 and her grandsons IAN Dierker in 1985 and KYLE McKenzie in 1991. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son TERRY (Roseanne) Dierker of Mistatim, SK and her daughter PEGGY (Don) Munro of Summerland. She will also be missed by her grandchildren NEIL, MICHAEL, CHRISTINE and ALISON. She also had five great-grandchildren. Jessie will be remembered by all who knew her as a loving, caring, positive person who dearly loved her family. Special thanks to Dr. Martine LeBel and staff of the Summerland Senior’s Village. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 4 th at 10:00 am at the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, B.C. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1633 Pandosy Street, Kelowna, B.C., V1Y 1P6. A gift in loving memory of Jessie will be made to “Holding Hands for Hospice” by Springfield Funeral Home.

KHALEMBACH, JOSEPH, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2008 in the Penticton Regional Hospital, at the age of 87 years. Born in Yugoslavia on October 12, 1920, son to Frank and Mary, Joe came to Canada at the age of 8. For the better part of 50 years, Joe farmed at Peachland, retiring 18 years ago to live with his son Murray in Summerland. Joe was a member of the Free Masons Lodge and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 69, Peachland. He will be fondly remembered by friends as “Coffee Joe”. Family members who will sadly miss him are 2 sons: Eugene (Leslie) of Peachland, and Murray of Summerland; 2 grandsons: Travis of Ashcroft and Cole of Kelowna. Joe has been pre-deceased by his parents Frank and Mary as well as 2 brothers: John and Andrew. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2008 at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. (Family and friends are asked to meet just inside the gate at 1:45 p.m. and there will be a procession to the grave site). Officiating at the Service will be Chaplain Ron Watson.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah Scriver on March 27, 2008 in Cranbrook, British Columbia at 84 years of age. Sarah was born in Summerland, British Columbia on June 29, 1922. Sarah will be lovingly remembered by her four sons: Darrell (Claudette), Greg (Marilyn), Pat (Janice), Neil (Julie); her brother Lionel (Marie) Guidi; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and all who knew her. Sarah was pre-deceased by her husband Bob, sister Theresa, and daughter-in-law Eileen. A prayer service for Sarah will be held at McPherson Funeral Chapel in Cranbrook on Tuesday, April 1 st at 7:00 pm with Father Conrado Beloso presiding. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, April 2 nd at 11:00 am at Christ The Servant Church in Cranbrook with Father Conrado Beloso officiating. Following the service, Interment will take place in the Westlawn Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Sarah can do so to the Joseph Creek Care Fund: 1901 Willowbrook Cranbrook, British Columbia V1C 6S4 Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.

NIELSEN, Leiv Wednesday, 26 Mar 2008

Leiv Harald Nielsen of Summerland, B.C. passed away peacefully on March 26 th, 2008 in the Penticton Hospital at the age of 85. Leiv is survived by his loving wife Rita, son Eric (Krystyna) Nielsen of Edmonton, daughter Karen (Brian) Sevick of Strathmore, 5 grandchildren: Cade (Tara), Carey, Jimi, Jessica and Jane, 3 great-granddaughters: Ciara, Savanna and Madisyn and Finnie. “Leif” was born in Stavanger, Norway on November 27, 1922. He sailed in the Norwegian merchant navy as a young engineer serving in World War II. In 1949 he met his wife Rita and immigrated to Canada. As a stationary engineer he worked for Shell Oil, Gulf Oil, and then taught steam engineering at the Kelsey Institute in Saskatoon. Leif and Rita retired to Summerland, B.C. in 1986 where they have made numerous friends. Leif has been involved with the Naval Vets, the Legion, Sons of Norway and the Scandinavian Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and woodworking. He will be dearly missed. Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 4 th, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. from the Summerland Legion, Branch #22, 14205 Rosedale Avenue, Summerland, B.C. with Padre Rick Gay officiating. Donations may be made to B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Toby Richard Andrew Walsh of Summerland, B.C. went to his eternal home on March 22, 2008 at the age of 36 years. Lovingly remembered by his family; wife Deja, children Kayla and Keanna, mother Mary Snelgrove, all of Summerland B.C., brother Todd (Kerry) and nephew Sean of Victoria, B.C. and numerous beloved relatives and friends. He was sadly pre-deceased by his grandfather Ned, father Eugene and step-father Ron. Toby will be remembered for his generous spirit, love of life and family, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Toby’s life was held on March 29 th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Penticton Lakeside Resort 21 W. Lakeshore Dr., Penticton. Memorial tributes may be made to the Charity of your choice.

Born in Bear Lake, B.C. via Takla Landing. Son of Mary Gunanoot and Peter Murdock.
Thomas died peacefully at the Burns Lake District Hospital. His wife, Victorine Jack and children were all with him.
We’d like to thank Dr. Purden, all the nurses and staff at the Lakes District Hospital and everyone who participated in anyway. He also leaves behind two brothers, William & Henry Jack.
