Peter Sydney Vallance died on the 12th day of August, 2008 after a protracted decline, leaving his family the gift of grace in the face of adversity.
Peter was born November 20th, 1926 in Calgary. He graduated from the University of Alberta with his Law Degree in 1949 and articled to his father Sydney Vallance Q.C.. Peter was an ‘everyman’s’ lawyer and touched many lives in the course of his 40-year career in Calgary. He retired in 1988 with his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Jean Cameron Vallance (nee McFarlane), to their home on Lake Windermere, where they pursued their successful craft business for many more years.
Known for his generosity of spirit and good will, Peter’s first love after Jean and the family was the outdoors. He was an avid back country adventurer and pioneer heli-skier. Peter and Jean traveled the remote north for thousands of miles by canoe. His adventures took him around the world.
Peter was a member of the Alpine Club of Canada for more than 50 years and a member of Columbia Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M., Invermere, B.C.
Peter is survived by his devoted wife, his son David who practises law in Calgary, his son Bruce who is a ceramic artist living in Victoria, his daughter Barbara who practises law in Fort Macleod, and son-in-law Larry Zehanoviz. He also leaves eight grandchildren, Meghan, Matthew, Patrick, Annie, Peter, David, Sam & Kallie, and his sister Jean Gill.
“Hail fellow and well met.” He loved and was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
No formal service is planned at this time. Flowers are gratefully declined.

Warren embraced his family, his friends and his life. He lived passionately, honestly and with commitment and humour. After 10 years of exceptionally courageous treatment for Multiple Myeloma, Warren is resting peacefully.
He will be forever missed by his wife Cheri and his two daughters Jaime and Madison. He is survived by his parents Arlene and Stew McCuaig of Fairmont Hot Springs; his sister Valerie and brother-in-law Norman Blazina of Salmon Arm; his nieces Kelcey and Kwynn Blazina of Calgary as well as many relatives and friends who all held special places in his life and in his heart.
We wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to all of Warren’s medical team at SMH, VGH and PAH. A celebration of Warren’s life was held at Belle’s on August 15.

Heinz Burghardt passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary, AB, after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the age of 47 years. Heinz was born in Invermere, B.C. on October 1, 1960. He is survived by his son Heinz Joseph; mother Kay (James) McNaughton; sister Johanna Mackay; niece Summer; nephew Chance; grandmother Florence MacFarlane; uncle David (Nancy) Leckschas; aunt Barbara Banham; and cousin Michelle Banham. Heinz was pre-deceased by his brother Arne in 1979 and his father Heinz Sr. in 1998. Memorial Service will be held at COMMEMORATIVE SERVICES (5502-2nd Street SE / one block east of Macleod Trail on 53rd Ave. SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 11:00 am with The Rev. Brian William Hollingsworth beloved husband of Donna of Airdrie passed away on July 9, 2008 at the age of 60 years.
Brian was born on July 19, 1947 in Edmonton, AB. He grew up in Windermere, B.C. and in 1972 he married his sweetheart Donna Sanft. Brian devoted his life to his family and was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. His personality touched everyone he met and he will be dearly missed.
Besides his loving wife Donna, Brian is survived by his mother Evelyn Hollingsworth; daughters, Carla (Matt) Pierce and Jacquie (Lyle) Sampert; grandchildren, Brandon and Cassidy Pierce and Peyton Sampert; as well as Brian’s extended family and numerous friends. He was pre-deceased by his father, William and brother, Gary.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Master (216 Main Street S., Airdrie, Alberta) on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Parkinson’s Super Walk to be held in September, 2008.

We are sad to announce the passing of Lula “Lou” Marr on April 21, 2008 in Invermere, British Columbia. Lou was born April 14, 1923 in Daysland, Alberta. In July of 1942 she was married to Thomas Marr. Lou served 2 years in the Air Force. Thomas and Lou had 4 children: Andy, Pat, Doug and Kerry; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Lou was a practical nurse at the St. Eugene and Invermere hospitals. She was also an avid photographer. She was honest, reliable and “a little bit crazy.” She said it was “the only way to fly.” Lou loved her fellow man, her deer and her neighbours. Take “Time for lunch – go home be glad, and thank the Good Lord for yet another day.”
A service for Lou was held on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 2:00 pm in the Invermere Legion Hall. In memory of Lou, donations can be made to: Verge For Youth c/o Box 178 Radium Hot Springs V0A 1M0.

It is with great sadness that the family of Joanne announce her passing on March 11, 2008.
Joanne was born in Invermere and chose to spend her life in the Columbia Valley. Joanne is survived by daughters, Nancy (Douglas) Morrison of St. Louis, Jill (Len) Clark of Edgewater, and son Raymond (Audrey) of Calgary, grandchildren, Rebecca McPherson, Melissa (Ralph) Clark-McGrath and great-grandchildren, Trinity and Cassidy.
Joanne was pre-deceased by her husband George and parents George and Gladys Watt.
Joanne had a love for the outdoors starting as a cook for the Alpine Club of Canada and later camping, fishing and hunting.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of Columbia Garden Village for their dedication and care over the years.
At Joanne’s request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB).
BOUMAN, Henderika Roelina Thursday, 24 Jul 2008

Henderika Roelina Bouman passed away on July 24, 2008 at Chilliwack B.C. at age 75 years. Henny is survived by her children, Cynthia (Bill) Smith, Carmen (Randy) Norrish and Rissa (Chris) Wilson; grandchildren, Cristy (Shawn) LeCain, Paige, Stephen and Peyton Norrish; Danielle and Cameron Wilson; Timothy and Stephanie Smith and great-granddaughter, Aneela LeCain. She was pre-deceased by her parents Auke and Tina Struiksma and her husband Marten Bouman.
Henny was born September 18, 1932 in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, she was one of four sisters. Henny immigrated to Canada in 1958 and went to work at the Dupont Nylon Plant in Kingston, Ontario. In 1973, the family came to B.C. and settled in Agassiz as restaurant owners of the Chuckwagon Café. This later became known as the Hoek-van-Holland. In 1987 Henny went to work at the Harrison Hotel as a waitress and later as a hostess in the Copper Room. She loved her Bingo and floor curling at the friendship house.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Carol and Phil Boorman and Debbie and Alan Wiles for being there for Henny. If any so desire, memorial donations in lieu of flowers to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. A private family service will be held.
MORRIS, Ron Wednesday, 16 Jul 2008

Ron passed away at home in Johannesburg, South Africa after a lengthy illness with ALS. Originally from Ontario, Ron fondly remembered the good years he enjoyed living in Harrison where he met his wife Lynne Freeman of Agassiz.
After travelling the world, they settled in Johannesburg where they raised three children. He's greatly missed by his wife Lynne, son Shaun, daughters Michelle & Jocelyn, son-in-law Daryl & grandchildren Tyler & Jayde.
