TOMPKINS, CORKY – Clitheroe (Corky) Wellington Tompkins at the age of 87 fell asleep in death to await a resurrection to a paradise earth. He loved this hope and talked about it to anyone with a listening ear. Knowing Corky meant you knew of his favourite place on earth, Biscotasing. Born and raised in the ‘bush’ with endless tales of exploration, hard work, cutting ice from the lake and friendships. He made sure his family experienced the north and encouraged our love of it. He also spent time working in the mines at Inco as a Millwright and also as a Stationary Engineer in chemical valley. Corky loved to talk shop and had an incredible memory of every incident at work. The family would like to thank Dr. Madison and the St. Joseph’s Hospice. Also special thanks to Joe Roy who called Corky every day and Rod Sewell who was a good and steadfast friend. A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 24 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 550 Murphy Road, Sarnia Ontario. ELLIOTT, Ann Elliott of West Vancouver, B.C.
March 27, 1940 – September 22, 2018

Ann Elliott (Elizabeth Ann Mattick), age 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 22, 2018 in West Vancouver B.C. She was born on March 27, 1940 in Cordova Bay, Victoria, B.C. to Bill and Joey Mattick (Whilhemine Alice Clarke).
Ann’s choice of pharmacy as a career and her quick rise to managing drug stores made her a role model for women. She graduated with a Pharmacy Degree from the University of British Columbia in 1961. After graduating, Ann gained certification and practiced as a pharmacist in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec. In the late 60s she began to manage stores. This culminated in the 1980s and 90s with her successfully running a large retail store, Shoppers Drug Mart in Pacific Centre in downtown Vancouver.
Ann was as dedicated to her family as she was to her work. Her family appreciated that even after many fifty plus hour work weeks she kept them well dressed and made sure they sat down together to eat delicious, beautiful, made from scratch dinners.
Ann enjoyed travelling throughout her life. She found as much pleasure in planning the trip as the experience itself, especially her once in a lifetime trips to Botswana, the Galapagos Islands and Machu Picchu. Hawaii was a favourite destination where she went many times to play golf and feel the warm wind.
Ann’s strength and determination were evident during her long battle with breast cancer. Even while undergoing treatment she continued to do the things she loved, including seaside walks, tending flowers and playing golf. A highlight was when she scored her one and only “hole in one” on the 4th hole at the Cordova Bay Golf Course, which sits on the land her father farmed. Ann is survived by John Elliott, her loving husband of 57 years, her daughter Lea (Scott), her granddaughters, Mika and Claire, her sister Sara (Buzz) and her niece Kate (Rob) and her nephew Mike (Ashleigh). Her family appreciates the peace of mind and compassion that Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) legislation provided Ann when her illness became untreatable and unbearable. There will be no service as per her request, but if you’d like to take a moment to remember Ann: look out at a beautiful view, take a bite of dark chocolate and lift a glass of prosecco.
