CONRAD, WALTER CHARLES (Wally)

Born Lunenberg, Nova Scotia, January 21, 1933, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, on January 24, 2007.
Wally is survived by his wife of 21 years, Daphne, stepchildren, Karen, Bob, Ken and Rick; grandchildren, Pamela, Kristin, Lindsay, Cassandra, Ryan; brother, Jackie Conrad and several nieces and nephews.
Wally spent 21 years as a Merchant Seaman, and served 11 years in the Canadian Army, gaining the rank of Provost Martial, spending time in Korea.
All relatives and friends are welcome to attend Wally's Memorial Service on Feb­ruary 12 at 1:00pm, to be held at the Trafalgar-Pro Patria Legion, 411 Gorge Rd, Victoria.
The family wishes to thank Dr.'s Andrew Attwell, Alan Cook and Bruce Piercy and the Hospice Palliative Team, for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vancouver Island Cancer Clinic or charity of choice.

ABERCROMBIE, MURA (KNOWLES)

Born in Vernon, B.C., on June 5th 1910, as Mura Murdock Seaman.
Mura died peacefully at Mount St. Mary Hospital in Victoria, on January 16th, 2007.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elmet Wilson Abercrombie in 1982; her daughter-in-law, Jill Abercrombie in 2006; brothers, Charles Seaman and Arnold Knowles; and sisters, Ida and Vera.
Mura leaves behind her brother, Jack Knowles (Goldie) and family; her sons, Jack Abercrombie, Danny (Nicci) Abercrombie; grandchildren, Stephen (Darla), David, Elizabeth (John), Todd (Morley), Lance (Jenni); great-grandchildren, Braelynn, Claire, Thomas, Sarah, Tom, Max, Carys and Drew; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Our dear mother was a very caring person with a delicious sense of humour, gaining many friends during her lifetime.
She was always ready to help out and was a gracious hostess, who gave generously of her time to others.
After raising her family, she worked part-time in the lingerie department of Eaton's in Victoria, for many years, a job she loved very much.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Chan and to the staff at Mount St. Mary Hospital, for their selflessness and the many kindnesses shown our mother.
Private interment at Hatley Memorial Gardens, Victoria, B.C.
An occasion to celebrate her life, will be announced at a later date.
It was Mura's wish that those wanting to commemorate her life, do so by performing an act of kindness.

FAIRES, MARJORIE (Marge) Helen

Passed away at Campbell River Hospital, on January 4, 2007.
She was predeceased by her parents, a sister and brother.
Marge is survived by her loving husband, Guy Faires, son: Douglas Faires of Calgary, daughter: Debra (Louis) Van Solkema of Tahsis, grandchildren: Casey, Codey, Corylee, Leilani, and Kaitlynn; extended family: Bill (Corinne), Emelie, Evan, Lisa (Pat), Paige, Dan; brother: Terry Rowsell of Calgary; sisters: Audrey Cairns and Joan Gavel of Calgary, and sister-in-law, Mercedes Rowsell of Newfoundland, nieces and nephews: Diane, Terry, Tracy and Angie.
Marge attended Jubilee Christian Community Church in Colwood, Victoria, with her husband, Guy, for many years.
Both were loved and missed when they moved to Campbell River.
Marge loved her flower garden, and people often commented that their home in Victoria, looked like a miniature Butchart Gardens.
She also loved knitting and crocheting.
She was born in Grandfalls, Newfoundland, in 1929, then moved to Saskatoon, then Calgary, where she met her husband and moved to Victoria, where they spent 41 years, before moving to Campbell River, in July 2006.
A celebration of Marge's life will take place at Elk Falls Chapel, at Elk Falls Cemetery, Highway 28 at General Hill, Campbell River, on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 1:30pm, with burial to follow.

Keith Albert Dettling

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Keith Albert Dettling of Cranbrook, B.C., on Sunday, February 9th, 2020 at the age of 70 with his loving family at his side.
Keith is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lois; his daughter, Nicole Kraljic (Tony) and their sons, James and Carter, daughter, Amy Penney (Kevin) and their son, Lincoln. He also leaves to mourn his brother, Greg (April) Dettling; sisters, Charlene Dettling (Bob) and Arlene Dettling.
He will be greatly missed by many more family and friends and his very special friend, Ken Bridge.
Keith was a NASCAR enthusiast and attended many races over the years with his best bud, Ken Bridge.
He was also an avid classic car guy and belonged to the Rockin’ in the Rockies Car Club of Cranbrook and the Pharaoh's Car Club which was made up of a mix of Canadian and American car enthusiasts.
He also travelled once a year, for many years, with the Idaho Cruisers.
He took great pride in his car collection, which included his red (not orange) 1971 Chevy truck, a 1955 Chevy Del-Ray and his 1937 Ford Coupe.
Keith was a successful businessman for over 30 years and a strong supporter of his community.
He donated countless hours volunteering or just plain helping you out when the call came.
He was a happy, go-lucky, optimistic, and uncomplicated man and you could always count on him for a good time.

Please join the family in helping celebrate Keith’s life on Saturday, February 22nd, 2020 at 2:00pm at the Colombo Hall.

SAWYER, Douglas James

Doug was born January 30th, 1943, in Russell, Manitoba, to Robert & Dorothy Sawyer, and passed away peacefully with his family around him, on December 25th, 2005 (complications resulting from a stroke).
Doug was raised in Foxwarren, Manitoba, and came to B.C., in 1961, to join the Navy.
Doug was predeceased by a sister (Roberta) in 1948, and his father, Bob, in 1968.
He will be fondly remembered by his son, Rob (Jackie), daughter, Crystal, his mother, and step-father, Dorothy and Harold Gollmer Scott, sister, Shirley (Ted) Scott and brother, Ken (Terry) Sawyer.
Also, Bunny, who made his last year very happy.
Doug was a heavy-duty machine operator, joining local #115 in 1971.
His favourite pastimes included: golfing, fishing, curling and gambling.
Please come and share your thoughts and memories at a celebration of Doug's life on Sunday, January 8th, 2006 at 1pm, in the main ballroom at the Crown Isle Golf & Country Club in Courtenay, B.C.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in Doug's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

BURTENSHAW, Margaret Patricia

Passed away on December 23, 2006 in Saanichton, B.C.
She was born in London, England, on April 5, 1928.
Predeceased by her husband, Stan in 1991.
Survived by her daughters, Jean (Wayne) and Patricia (Paul); grandchildren, Martin (Julianne), David (Alice) and great-grandchildren, Jessica and Andrew; and many extended family and friends.
Pat was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Funeral service will be held at MCCALL BROS. FAMILY CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.

Passed away peacefully, at age 69, on December 10th, 2005 at RJH.
Predeceased by son, Michael, survived by wife, Diana, daughter, Laura, grandchildren, John, David & Laurel and sister, Dorothy.
Memorial gathering will be held at Saanichton Fairgrounds on Saturday, January 14th, 2006 at 2:00 pm.
