Fitzgerald, Floyd
December 18, 1910 - April 28, 2009
"One Of A Kind"
Floyd Fitzgerald passed away peacefully at Mount Cartier Court, Revelstoke, B.C. on Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 in his 99th year. A gathering of family and friends to remember Floyd will be held on Wednesday, May 20th at the Regent Hotel (Mt. Begbie Room) from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Leukemia Research, 310 - 1682 West 7th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V6J 4S6, in memory of Floyd.
Floyd was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on December 18, 1910. Early in his working career Floyd owned land in Bow River, Alberta on which he farmed grain, as many of his family did. Before long he traded his land for heavy (construction) equipment, which brought him and his wife Carell to B.C. where he worked on both the Victoria and Vancouver airports. He then moved to the Okanagan Valley where he worked on road construction around the Peachland area. Floyd moved his wife and young family to Revelstoke in 1949 to set up a sawmill and logging operation with his business partner and lifelong friend, Oscar Knoblauch. Primarily self-employed he continued to work in many aspects of the forest industry until his retirement in 1973.
In 1958, the untimely death of his wife Carell left him with the daunting task of raising four children. He married Fran (Carlson) in 1969 and they enjoyed many good years together. Floyd faithfully cared for Fran for many years and his dedication to her at Mount Cartier Court is remembered by many. His greatest passion throughout life was to track, chart and participate in the commodities market.
Floyd was truly one of a kind, and was admired for his devotion to family, his honesty and his integrity. He followed the road less travelled and lived his life with values and principles he would not compromise.
Floyd was predeceased by his first wife, Carell (nee Rangen) in 1958; his second wife, Frances (Carlson) in 1997 and his granddaughter Kelly Ormiston in 1993. He will be remembered with love, admiration and respect by his children Shelagh Fitzgerald, Alisen Ormiston (Tim), Barrie Fitzgerald (Sherry) and Leah Tillen; his grandchildren Carell, Marnie, Scott, Lesley, Abbie, Adria, Arone, Murray and Natalie and great-grandchildren Taylor, Bree, Colby, Jacob, Sadie, Aimee, Jenna, Mateo and Gabriel.
The family would like to pass on very special thanks to Mickey Olsen, Allan McInnes and Elsie Knoblauch for their continuous friendship to our Dad. In addition, a great big thank you to the caregivers at Moberly and Mount Cartier Court who truly cared for Dad.
