FREESTONE, Ruby
1914 - 2008
Ruby was born 3 September, 1914 in Fulham, London, England.
She was the eldest of three sisters.
When leaving school at 14, she went to work at McFarlane's Biscuit Factory.
She married Fred in 1938 and had one daughter, Valerie, 3 years later.
A very doting mother, while in the underground sheltering from bombs in the war, she wouldn't leave at the all clear because her baby was still sleeping.
A few year later, she bought a fish and chip shop, running it very successfully for some time, eventually selling it as Fred was tired of babysitting each night.
Ruby always had a part-time job after that.
When her middle sister died, her brother-in-law and two nephews joined us for dinner every night for years.
When Valerie and her girls immigrated to Canada in 1981, Ruby and Fred followed the following year.
She could not bear to be apart from her daughter and granddaughters.
After Fred died in 1992, just short of their 55th wedding anniversary, a heartbroken Ruby eventually found solace and new love with Lyle Labrum.
They enjoyed traveling, the Seniors Centre and square dancing.
Ruby will be remembered, her dog-in-tow, by her smile and friendly manner to everyone.
Ruby leaves behind her daughter, Valerie, grandchildren, Pamela and Sally, great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Glenn, Marshall and Harrison, as well her youngest sister, Ivy, brother- and sister-in-law, Len and Lillian Freestone, nieces and nephews in England.
Sister-in-law, Vera; niece and nephew in America and Diana, who came to live with at us, age 12, also in America.
