SAMUEL DREFKO
February 15th, 1928 – August 18th, 2009
Sam was a true “gentle” man with sky blue eyes that were always sparkling with mischievous laughter. He cared deeply for his family, especially his grandchildren. Sam always took time to make everyone feel special with his loving ways. Dad loved music; both country and country gospel. We have a lifetime of memories of our dad playing his guitar and singing. He had a wicked yodel and taught us his love of music. He loved to tease and laugh and would strike up a conversation with anyone he met. Sam fought his battle with cancer with great strength and courage, and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Born at Drefko Lake near Radville, Saskatchewan, Sam was the seventh child of fifteen born to Peter and Mary Drefko. After his schooling, he worked for various nearby farms. He worked at the Weyburn Mental Institute for three years and then became a Heavy Equipment Operator. He met and married Jeanne Taylor in 1952. Together they lived in Bassano, Edmonton and Calgary, moving to Kamloops in 1965. Sam semi-retired but continued to help out anyone in need.
Sam was predeceased by his father Peter, mother Mary, brother Paul and ex-wife/best friend Jeanne. He leaves to mourn brothers and sisters John, Rose, Anthony, Zofia, William, Joseph, Annie, Johanna, Elisabeth, Helen, Michael, Olga and Margaret. He also leaves to mourn three daughters Bernadette (Mark Harvey), Lee Ann (Doug Methot) and Colleen (Garry Peters), grandchildren, Kris, Kevin, Meghan, Michelle, Dylan, Brendan, Jared, Brittany, Sierra, Derek and Kyle, seven great-grandsons, four great-granddaughters and over 60 nephews and nieces.
Sam’s family would like to thank the nursing staff at 3-West, Royal Inland Hospital. Also a huge thank you to our very own “Dr.” Dylan without whose help with Dad, and Mom, we would still be lost. A private family Funeral will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to:
