Ernie Leroux

April 5, 1924 – May 12, 2011

Ernie passed away with his family by his side on May 12, 2011 in the Nelson Hospital after at battle with cancer at the age of 87 years.

Ernie was born to parents Emma and George Leroux on April 5, 1924 in Wainwright, AB. He moved at an early age with his family to Royalties, AB.

He worked in the Turner Valley Oil Fields before and after he served with the Navy overseas.

Ernie moved to Creston in August 1954, he worked as an engineer at the hospital and he was employed by Taks. Later on he formed a partnership in Western Plumbing and Heating with Hap Smith and Wes Hughes. The Columbia Brewery also employed him for many years.

He loved camping, playing cards, square dancing and social dancing.

Ernie was a Charter member of the Elks Lodge and became the district deputy.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Hazel; daughters Linda (Grant) Romano, Sandi (Ed) Barton, Barb (Hanna); son Roger (Sigrid) Leroux; sisters Marie Mach, Jean (Maurice) Reshaug; brother Maurice (Marie) Leroux; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Ernie was predeceased by his parents Emma and George Leroux; sisters Stella, Helen and Lauretta; brothers Henry, Roger, George, Leonard and Richard.

In accordance with Ernie’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Any friends wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society – c/o Malcolm Ferguson – 703 Murdoch St. Creston, BC, V0B 1G4, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Faye Elaine Taylor (nee Mooljelsky) passed away Wednesday May 11th, 2011 at the Creston Valley Hospital with family by her side.

Faye was born on December 13, 1932 in Kamsack, Saskatchewan.

She married Ivan Taylor on May 4, 1952 in Kamsack, Saskatchewan and continued to live there with their three children until 1960. Then they moved to The Pas, Manitoba where Faye attended Kiewatin College. After completing her schooling, she had numerous positions as a controller purchaser. Faye was a Scouts Canada Leader and a member of the United Church. She was also a horticulturist and loved gardening, Canoeing and fishing at the family cabin on Clearwater Lake in Manitoba.

Faye and Ivan retired to a hobby farm in Shoreacres, BC in 1976.

Faye lived the last fourteen years in the Creston Valley, where she gardened and was an avid bridge and crib player.

Faye was predeceased by Ivan Taylor and her parents.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Linda Taylor of Cavendish, Newfoundland; sons Danny Taylor of The Pas, Manitoba and Kim (Marilyn) Taylor of Yorkton, Saskatchewan; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother Jim Moojelsky; sisters Carol (Steve) Manziuk and Lisa (Lorne) Evans and her aunt Helen Stefura .

A Celebration of Life Service to be held on Sunday May 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Ian Cotton officiating. Interment of Ashes to take place at a later date in Kamsack, Saskatchewan.

Polzin, Olive Ella

Olive Ella Polzin ( nee Pilkey ) passed away May 8th, 2011 at her Crestview Village resident at the age of 93 years.

She was born to Sara and William Pilkey at the family home in Waterford, Ontario on November 26th, 1917.

Predeceased by children Ray, Patty and Sheryl. Olive will be dearly missed by her family, children Ron, Delores, Carol and Linda and their spouses, fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren.

A private family interment took place at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC on Wednesday May 11th, 2011 at 1:30 with a Celebration of Life following at 2:00 pm at the Valley View Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Friesen officiating.

Harris, Joan

Joan Harris passed away after a battle with cancer on April 22, 2011 at the Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 61 years.

Joan was born to parents Nona and Elwood Harris on November 16, 1949 in Cranbrook, BC.

She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her parents Nona and Elwood Harris and her brother Jack Harris.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday April 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the G. F. Oliver Funeral Chapel Creston, BC with Reverend Gwen Brown officiating.

Harris, Valerie

Valerie Louise (Knight) Harris

Valerie (Val) Louise Harris, a long-time resident of Creston, passed away suddenly on Tuesday April 5, 2011 at the age of 69.

Born in Victoria, Val moved to Creston at the age of eight with her parents, William and Doris Knight, where her father owned and operated Creston Shoe Re Nu.

After graduating from Prince Charles High School in 1959, she attended the University of Victoria where she obtained her elementary teaching certificate. Val then taught school for 17 years in Prince George, Surrey, Cranbrook, and Creston.

In 1979, Val returned to Creston to marry long-time resident Ronald Peter Harris and raise her family. No matter how busy, she always made time for family events and was the source of family news and history – the hub of the family.

Val will be remembered as someone who was always ready to lend a hand whenever needed. As an active member of several organizations in the community she was fondly referred to as ‘Invaluable Val’. Often she could be found placing posters, writing minutes, and performing a variety of other duties for Wildsight (formerly East Kootenay Environmental Society), P.A.W.S., Class of ‘59 Reunion Committee, Trinity United Church, PCSS band parents, and many others.

Val is survived by her husband Ronald Peter Harris; children Michael Martell, Leanne Harris, and Lyle Harris; brother Doug Knight and his wife Roberta; and many beloved pets.

Her funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Trinity United Church with interment at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Erickson, BC. Friends wishing to make a memorial tribute may do so to: Wildsight, 2809 Erickson Rd. Creston, BC, V0B 1G1; P.A.W.S. 2805 Lower Wynndel Rd., Creston, BC, V0B 1G8; or The David Suzuki Foundation, 219 - 2211 West 4th Ave, Vancouver, BC V6K 4S3.

Valerie’s deep involvement with family and friends, compassion for all living things, and presence in the community will be missed.

Hauser, Sylvia

Sylvia Lucillia Hauser passed away on April 5, 2011 in Creston, BC at the age of 89 years.

Sylvia was born on May 27, 1921 to parents Sorah and Edward Emmons in Lafleche, Saskatchewan.

Sylvia married Frank Hauser on July 31, 1947 in Saskatchewan. They moved to British Columbia with their two sons, Lloyd and Darwin, in 1962 and a couple years later settled in Canyon, BC, where she lived the remainder of her life.

Sylvia loved her dahlias and gardening; she market gardened for many years. She also really loved the gorgeous trees of BC. Sylvia enjoyed playing cards and spending time with the family, especially her grandsons Kurtis and Jamie.

Sylvia was predeceased by her parents Sorah and Ed Emmons; son Lloyd; husband Frank; brothers Wesley and Alvin; and sister-in-law Annette.

She will be dearly missed by her son Darwin (Shelly); grandsons Kurtis and Jamie; brother Raymond (Margaret); sisters Goldie (Alfred), Alma and Wilma; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Funeral Service was held Monday April 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the G. F. Oliver Funeral Chapel with Dr. Anjanee Gyan-Dyck officiating. Interment to follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC.

Friends wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the charity of the donor’s choice.
