VALDES, Frederick Ramon William born August 10, 1958 in Regina, Saskatchewan, died June 7, 2002 in Vancouver, B.C. After many months of fighting to survive the cancer that had invaded his body, but not his soul, Freddie passed away in the early minutes of June 7, 2002 surrounded by his family. He is finally at peace from his pain and suffering and is now in Heaven watching over all of us who remain Earthbound, his parents Fred Valdes Sr. and Shirley Valdes Heslop; his step-mother Maureen Valdes; his sisters and brothers Valerie (David) Millard, Cindy (Armand) Amiel, Steve (Wendy) Valdes, John Paul Valdes and Christy Kirkley-Valdes; his loving friend and former wife Eva (Kool) Valdes; his nieces and nephews Nicole, Jordan and Danielle Amiel; Lena and Jessica Millard; Cody, Ryan and Stephanie Valdes and the many more of his relatives and friends who feel the loss of his passing very deeply. Freddie was born in Regina, moved to Calgary as a toddler, then arrived on the North Shore in 1966, where he graduated from West Vancouver Secondary School in 1976. He worked in the family restaurant business at the Kings Head Inn, as well as Chevy's Diner and The Belair Cafe. He later worked for Earls Restaurants, before leaving the industry to move on to a financial career with Primerica (PFSL). Because he enjoyed helping others to achieve their goals, he started his own business consulting firm, "thebizdoctor.com". We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the wonderful people who helped him in his fight. To those at the Centre for Integrated Healing, who offered him hope with integrated complimentary cancer care alternatives. And, to the doctors and nurses at both the B.C. Cancer Clinic, who were a blessing during his numerous treatments and, in the end, at the Willow Chest Centre, where, despite his inner strength and determination, his body was unable to fight any longer. Freddie's wishes were to be cremated and that his eyes be donated to someone in need. A Celebration of Freddie's Life will be held @ 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2002 at St. David's United Church, 1525 Taylor Way and Upper Levels, in West Vancouver for all that knew and loved him. (In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made, in Freddie's memory, to either the B.C. Cancer Agency @ 604 877-6040 or the Centre for Integrated Healing @ (604-734-7125).
