Matras, Bolestaw (Bill)
Bolestaw (Bill) Matras passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on October 19, 2012 at the age of 83 years. Bolestaw was born to parents Maria and Wxadystaf Matras on November 27, 1928 in Poland. He received his education and was married to Jadwiga Zurawik in Poland before immigrating to Creston in 1962.
Bolestaw was employed by Crestbrook Forest Industries and spent many many years fruit farming in the Creston Valley.
Bolestaw had a large part in his heart for animals of all types. He had numerous horses and dogs and he raised dozens of Pigeons throughout his life. He loved the outdoors, specially being in his garden, and camping or visiting various hot springs with his family.
He was predeceased by his mother and father; brother; sisters and grandson.
Bolestaw will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years, Jadwiga; daughter Halina (Ernie) Lambert; sons Chris Matras and Ed (Evelyn) Matras; granddaughters Robyn Langenhan and Amanada Matras; grandson Joey Matras and great-granddaughters Kayla and Scout Langenhan.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday October 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Tom Kakkaniyil celebrant.

Oscar Courchaine
Born July 11, 1937 - Passed away October 8, 2012
Oscar was a resident of Erickson, B.C. He passed away at the age of 75 years, while on a hunting trip in Vanderhoof, B.C.
He was born to parents Rosanna and Lorenzo Courchaine in St. Germain, MB on July 11, 1937 and he attended school in St. Germain, MB and St. Norbert, MB. Oscar married his childhood sweetheart, Annette Combot, on June 29, 1957 and they were happily married for 55 years. At that time he was a master plasterer but in 1964he joined the boilermakers and worked across Canada building power plants, pulp mills and pelletizine plants. In 1977, upon moving to Creston, he was an orchardist for a brief time. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the Parish Council at the Holy Cross Catholic Church. He loved music, playing the violin and guitar, and he was a square dance caller and loved to dance as well. He was an avid sportsman, who loved fishing on the ocean in Port McNeill and Port Mandy. Most of all, he loved hunting moose, elk and deer.
Oscar was predeceased by his parents, Roseanne and Lorenzo Courchaine and his brother Leonel.
He will be dearly missed by his wife Annette; sons Leonel (Bobby), Danny (Debbie) and Claude (Fantine); daughters Jackie (Bill) and Cheryl (Ken); fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayers were held Sunday October 14, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Funeral Mass was Monday October 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Tom Kakkaniyil officiating.

Carter, Mollie
Mollie Carter passed away peacefully on October 20, 2012 in Saanichton, B.C. at the age of 92 years.
Mollie was born to parents Anna and Adam Weitzel on June 22, 1920 in Norka, Russia. She came to Canada, at an early age, with her family and settled in Castor Alberta where she received her education. Mollie married Bill Carter in Caster, AB in 1942.
Mollie had a lot of enjoyment in life. She loved to bake, crochet, dance, listen to music, fish, camp, travel, read and play cards! She was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Mollie was predeceased by her husband William Welze Carter and her parents Anna and Adam Weitzel.
She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her sister Lydia Dawson of Edmonton, AB; brothers William Weitzel of Edmonton, AB and Frank Weitzel of Creston, BC; children Kenneth Carter of Cranbrook, B.C., Linda Carter of Victoria, B.C., William Carter of Tumbler Ridge, B.C., Kathleen Johnson, Vernon, B.C., Dot McKenzie of Creston, B.C. and also many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service was held Saturday October 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the G. F. Oliver Funeral Chapel with Rev. Shelley Stickel-Miles officiating. Interment followed the service at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, B.C.

Chomicki, Teddy (Ted)
Mr. Teddy Chomicki passed away on October 25, 2012 in Creston, B.C. at the age of 86 years.
Ted was born on June 2, 1926 in Divion, France. His family moved to Noranda, Quebec shortly after and this is where he received his education.
Ted married Marie Jeanne Gilberte Vallieres on May 7, 1955.
He will be dearly missed by his sons Lawrence (Francine) and Perry (Angele Perigny); daughter Linda (Marc) Morin; grandchildren Jonathan and Sandra Chomicki, Audrey and Matthew Chomicki, Myriam and Philippe Morin, Charles-Eric and Genevieve Landry; sisters-in-law Mrs. Irene Lepage, Mrs Aline Vallieres and Mrs. Jeanne Vallieres, along with many friends in the Creston Valley, British Columbia and Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec.
VanDusen, Ron
Ronald James ( Ron ) VanDusen, age 67 years, passed away on November 6th, 2012 at the Creston Valley Hospital, with family by his side. Ron was born on August 29th, 1945 to Mary and James VanDusen at Winkler, MB. He received his education at Pentiction, B.C.
Ron married Alice Trussler at Prince Rupert, B.C. on September 5th, 1987, and the couple moved to the Creston Valley in June of 1993, where they owned and operated Wynndel Foods Store.
Ron was an active member of the Trinity United Church and enjoyed gardening, traveling and fishing.
He was predeceased by his parents Mary and James, brother Stuart and grandson Andrew. Ron will be dearly missed by his loving wife Alice, sons Dave of Elkford, Eric ( Rita ) of Bahrain, Tim ( Tamera ) of Calgary, Colin of Brooks, daughter Cheryl of Trail, grandchildren Darci of Edmonton, Andre of Brooks, Justin and Catherine of Trail, Hailey and Jorja of Penticton, Alanna and Adam of Bahrain, brother Les ( Cleo ) of Penticton, sister Jean ( Peter ) Toogood of London, ON and faithful companion Archie.
The Memorial service was held on Saturday November 10th, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Trinity United Church with Rev. Shelley Stickel-Miles officiating.

Brooks, Agnes
Agnes Brooks passed on to glory October 24, 2012.
Agnes was born July 3,1919 on the homestead near Moose Jaw, Sask., where she lived until her marriage to Donald Brooks in 1941. They travelled to Creston and bought property in Arrow Creek in 1946. In November 1948 their fi rst child, a son, James Dennis was born; but passed away with pneumonia on March 3, 1950. Later that year in October, Donna was born.
In 1951 Aggie and Don took Donna and moved to Vancouver to live and work. While there, two more girls were born, Hannah in 1954 and Brenda in 1956.
In 1959 Aggie and Don returned with the girls to the acreage in Arrow Creek. Aggie worked at the C.V.H. in the kitchen, and later in the laundry. In her more senior years, she participated in the TAPS program, and also volunteered at New Life Church serving Friday hot lunch to the PCSS students. Aggie moved into Crest View Village in January of 2006, where she resided until being hospitalized (because of pneumonia) for the last week of her life.
Agnes was predeceased by her son Jimmy, her husband Donald in 1992, and her only sibling, Buster Hans in 2007.
Agnes will be lovingly remembered and missed by her three daughters: Donna (Gary) Frostad, Hannah, Brenda (Gordon) Lawrence; four grandchildren: Derek Zarchukoff, Serena Zarchukoff, Jennifer Roth and Tamara Roth; four great-grandchildren: Liam, Alexis, Eli and Levi; as well as nephews and nieces from Donald's family.
At this time the family would like to thank all those who were a part of Aggie's life, for their friendship, kindness, and care: her extended family at New Life Church, friends and staff at Crest View Village as well as all the hospital staff.
Also we would like to express our gratitude for your kindness expressed through cards, flowers, and care packages.
