POWERS - James A. Born in Sarnia, Ontario on October 24, 1931. Passed away in North Vancouver on Tuesday, October 13, 1998. Sadly missed by his wife Elaine; sons, Jamie (Gail) and Jack; grandchildren, Darah, Oliver and Derek; and his sister Nadine, Ontario. Predeceased by his brothers Bob and Ron. No service by request.

YESTADT - Florence Irene. Born March 10, 1909. Irene passed away peacefully on October 13, 1998 in her 89th year. Gram will now join her husband John, daughter Lou, and son Roy who predeceased her. Gram leaves behind 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. We will miss you Gram. No service by request.

GARRIOCK - David. Passed away peacefully on October 13, 1998 at the Cowichan Lodge, Duncan, B.C. Born in North Vancouver, B.C. June 5, 1920. Dave is lovingly remembered by his wife, Shirley, of 53 years; two daughters Brenda (Ashley) Oliver, North Vancouver, Cathie Dahl of Kamloops; two sons, Rob Garriock of North Vancouver, John (Jutta) Garriock of Duncan; grandson Shawn Dahl of Kamloops; granddaughters, Tamara, Natalia Garriock of Duncan; two step-grandsons, Gavin, Alexander; also by brother Bob; sister-in-law Lottie Garriock; sister-in-law Mary Garriock of Victoria; many nieces and nephews. Dave attended school and business school in North Vancouver. He served in the Canadian Army for six years. He moved to Duncan in 1974 for a happy retirement. LAMB - R. Neil. Born October 2, 1930 in Calgary, Alberta. With the deepest of sorrow the family announces the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend on October 14, 1998. Neil is lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years Marg, son David (Lori), daughter Lisa (Pat), brother Tony, sister Diane and best friend Roald. Will be sadly missed by all 4 grandchildren (Alexandra, Jack, Dane and Samantha). All of whom adored him. After a successful and fulfilling career with Zenith Graphics, the longtime North Vancouver resident enjoyed the many hours spent at Fountain Lake, fishing at Rivers Lodge and playing golf at Capilano and Seymour Golf Clubs. The family would like to thank Dr. John Maynard for all his caring support over the years plus extends sincere thanks to the staff at Lions Gate Palliative Care. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 20 at 1 p.m, at Mount Seymour United Church, 1200 Parkgate in North Vancouver. LAURITZEN - Jenny. Age 78. Of North Vancouver, B.C. Passed away Thursday, October 15, 1998 at Lions Gate Hosopital in North Vancouver, B.C. Born in Hvilsager, Denmark, she was a daughter of the late Jens and Jensine Jensen. Mrs. Lauritzen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She leaves three sons, Ivan, John, and Rudi; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 941 Lynn Valley Road, North Vancouver on Tuesday, October 20, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a burial at North Vancouver Cemetery.

van ZONNEVELD - John. Born February 26, 1918 in The Hague, Holland. Passed away October 14, 1998 in Lions Gate Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kay and his children, Nefri Lyske (George), Quentin, Sandra Richmond and Wendy Manahan, nine grandchildren and one great-grandson, his sister Pauline Doorman and stepsister Jetty Deiongh and nieces and nephews in The Hague, Holland. Memorial Service to be held on Tuesday, October 20, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver. WATLER - Beth Mary (nee Alexander). Passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on October 14, 1998. Survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Robert (Bob) Watler; children Michael (Louise), Karole (Greg), Janet (Bruce); grandchildren Ryan and Chelsea; relatives in England; and many friends in Stratford, Ontario, North Vancouver and Parksville, B.C. A private family service was held. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to the Cancer Society of B.C.

BROWN - Laurie of Langley. Passed away on October 2, 1998 at Langley Memorial Hospital, at the age of 75 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by his wife, of 50 years, Joy, his daughter Jennifer (Stuart), his son David (Alisa), and grandchildren Danielle and Mark, as well as brother Bob, sister Noel, sister-in-law Shirley and many nieces and nephews. He was dearly loved by his family and his little dog Tiger.
He served on active duty in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. He had a successful career in newspaper advertising in the Lower Mainland and was a member of many clubs and organizations. He retired to Langley in 1991 and made many friends. He will be missed terribly but thought of with great joy and much love.
A memorial service will be held at Sharon United Church, 21562 Old Yale Road, Langley at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 1998. Many thanks to Dr. Heller of Langley and the nursing staff at L.M.H. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society of Greater Vancouver.

ROBINSON - Beth (nee Elizabeth Eileen Kennedy). Living at 1457 Moody Ave from 1961 to 1991, passed peacefully away on September 29, 1998 in the Lady Minto Hospital, Saltspring Island. Age 73. She was born and raised in Vilna, AB - leaving there to teach in one room schools at Westerdale (G2-9 43/44), Allingham (G1-9 44/45). Moving to B.C. she taught G3-6 at County Line and Strawberry Hill, Surrey (45/47), then G3 at Gilmore Elementary (a 40 pupil class). Beth and Ken married in 1950. In 1955 they moved to Kelowna and left in 1960. She returned to teaching in 1961 teaching at Eastview and Brooksbank schools, until she retired in 1980. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of her husband of 48 years, Ken; and sons Garth (Vancouver), Garnett (Lac la Biche), Garfield (Kris) (Madrid); daughter Corlis (St. Albert); also her granddaughters Leigha, Alana, Carly; and grandson Colin. A memorial service will be held at the All Saints' by the Sea Church, Ganges, B.C. on October 7, 1998 at 3 p.m. No flowers please. Donations requested to the Cancer Clinic at Victoria.

VELLA - Alexander Richard. Scored the ultimate try between the posts of the Pearly Gates on October 5, 1998, at the age of 74. Leaving on the touch-line his wife Maggie, in North Vancouver, her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Alex Harrison of Toronto, their daughters and grandchildren in Ontario; his sisters Irene Caisley and Lillian Hamblyn and their families in Eng-land. Will be fondly remembered by a multitude of friends around the world.
The quintessential amateur rugby club-man, Richard played two "representative" games in his life, for North of England Boys at Twick-enham in 1939, and for the "Rest-of-the-World Over-65's" at the opening of the Vancouver Golden Oldies Rugby Festiuval in 1997. Between these two landmarks, he played, coached and/or served on committees for: Percy Park (England); Toronto (now Ajax) Wanderers. Founder member of the XL (over 40) R.U.F.C., Toronto; honorary member of Glenfield Grizzlies, North Harbour, New Zealand and of the T.A.R.T.S. (Toronto Area Rugby Touring Side). He participated in Golden Oldies Rugby Festivals in Sydney, London, Auckland, Toronto, Perth, Christ-church, Vancouver and Cape Town, and the Golden Oldies motto of "Fun, Friendship and Fraternity" might have been devised with him in mind.
Off the field, he was apprenticed at Parsons Marine Steam Turbine Co. in Tyneside, saw military service in the R.E.M.E. at the end of WWII and spent 8 years as a ship's engineer in the Merchant Navy. Following his emigration to Canada, he worked as a stationary engineer for Beverage Canners (Coca-Cola), and the property management division of City Parking Canada in Toronto, before moving to Vancouver in 1978 to work for Marathon Realty until his retirement in 1989.

MOORE - Bernard Michael. Born March 16, 1925, Liverpool, England. Died October 2, 1998. Survived by his loving wife Jean, son Patrick and daughter Megan Bryson. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., October 24, 1998 at the West Vancouver Seniors Centre at 21st and Marine Drive. In lieu of flowers Bernie wished donations to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
SHAND - Mina Jane. Passed away peacefully October 5, 1998. Born April 17, 1915. Predeceased by her loving husband Alex and her sister Ruby. Fondly remembered by sons Bill, Edward, Rollie (Oriel); daughters Carol, Diane (Peter), Rose (Joe); brothers Rupert and Donney; sister Grace; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; many close relatives; friends; and very best friend Frankie Grant and husband Andy. For those who knew and loved her, know that they were touched by an angel. No service by request. McKAY - William (Bill) Kemp. Born in Toronto, Ontario on October 30, 1910. Died peacefully on Monday October 5, 1998 at Evergreen Lodge in North Vancouver. Predeceased by his loving wife of over 50 years, Margaret Elizabeth (Bessie). He is survived by his wife and loving companion Evelyn McKay (nee Bryan), sons Kemp (Sandra) and Grant (Lynn), daughters Ruth and Laurie (Roland), 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother Ted and sister Mary. He lived in North Vancouver for the majority of his 87 years. Bill was active in the Navy during World War II patrol-ling the West Coast and Aleutian Islands. Bill is remembered for his hard work and determination, his quick wit, his honesty and integrity, and his fairness to all. He was an inspiration to all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be missed greatly. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 1998, at 2:00 p.m., North Lonsdale United Church, 3380 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver. SCHMIDT - Kenneth Henry. Passed away after a short and courageous battle with cancer on October 6, 1998. Born July 26, 1935 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Predeceased by his father Henry Schmidt. Will be sadly missed by his mother Amelia Schmidt of Winnipeg; children Karen Muller (Gabe), Douglas Schmidt, Donna Grayston (David); grandchildren Daniel, Jonathan, Kate, Meghan, Emily and Spencer; relatives; and friends. BARTMANN - Heinz. Passed away Saturday, October 3, 1998, at age 72 years. Heinz's wisdom, humour and generosity will be missed by his wife Joan and family; Sarah Williams and Jackie Gallant; Carol Williams and Don Gill; Suzanne and Bill Fryer; and beloved grandson David Fryer. KIDD - Lillian Belle. Born in Vancouver on December 6, 1899. Passed away in North Vancouver on October 4, 1998. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Robert; her brothers' children Isobel Farrell, Martha Hopkins, Susan Barr and George Hobson; sister-in-law Dorothea Kidd; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by her husband George Stuart Kidd. SORENSEN - Clarence L. (Clancy). Born March 23, 1910, Calgary, Alberta. Died in Lions Gate Hospital on October 7 with Norma, his loving wife of 66 years, at his side. After Lord Tennyson Grammar School, he graduated from Moran School, Bainbridge Island, Washington; later graduated from Pomona College, Claremont, California; attended Harvard School of Business Administration. In 1933 he joined the White Lunch Cafeteria chain started by his father in 1911. Managing it for many years, Clancy expanded it to include several "Clancy's" restaurants in Vancouver, Kamloops and Williams Lake. Survived also by sons Keith and David, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom adored him.
A longtime resident of West Vancouver, he spent many happy hours fly fishing in the Cariboo and Chilcotin, and playing golf at Capilano Golf Club. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 15 at 1:30 p.m. at West Vancouver United Church, 21st and Esquimalt Ave. Flowers are gratefully declined but donations may be sent to the Salvation Army, 611-198 W. CRYER - Terence (Terry). Passed away on September 30, 1998, at the age of 52, at Lions Gate Hospital I.C.U. Survived by his wife Marion and step-children David and Catherine; his father Tony in Toronto; mother Michelle and brother Larry in England. Service to be held Monday, October 5, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Seymour United Church. Followed by cremation. He will be greatly missed by his family.

REICHELT - Ruth. Passed away at Vancouver General Hosptial in the presence of her loving family on September 28, 1998 at the age of 65. Ruth will be sadly missed by her three sons, their families including 8 grandchildren and her many kind and supportive friends and neighbours within the community. A funeral service, with the reception to follow, will be held on Monday, October 5, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Seymour United Church, 1200 Parkgate Ave, North Vancouver, B.C.

SPENCE - Doug. Passed away peacefully on September 25, 1998. He is survived by his wife and best friend Diane; mother Gladys Spence and brother Bob and family, all of London, Ontario. He will be missed by many close friends and business associates. Doug was an active member and fundraiser for the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra. JABOUR - Donald Essey, age 64, died at home on September 29, 1998 after a brief battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his father, S.J. (Sam) Jabour and his ste- father David R. Scott. Don was the husband and best friend of Juliet, father of Cal, Suzanne
(Gordon) Doerkson and Dan and son of Margaret Scott. He is also survived by his two grandchildren Kathleen and Benjamin Doerkson; his sister Janet (John) Warner; stepbrothers David Scott and Glen (Patricia) Scott. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews and their families. As a graduate of U.B.C. in Law (1958), Don fought long and hard to make the Law more accessible and less mysterious to the layman. A very compassionate man, he loved his work, his family and his musical hobbies. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Church, 949 West 49th (Oak St.) Vancouver, B.C. on Thursday October 8, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Phillip Hewett and Father Tom Nicholson will officiate. ABBOTT - L. Bernice. Born December 6, 1909 in Vancouver B.C. Passed away quietly in White Rock, B.C. September 17, 1998. Bernice was the daughter of North Vancouver pioneer, the late J.B. Paine. She was predeceased in October 1995 by her husband, former North Vancouver Fire Warden, Al Abbott. She leaves behind her loving family, daughter Betsy (Bob) Williams of Bellingham, WA; grandchildren Sandy (Jim) Reynolds and Dean (Kathy) Williams. Also great-grandson Brian Reynolds. FORBES - Oressa (Ress) of West Vancouver. Passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 1998. Predeceased by her loving husband Vincent. Oressa will be deeply missed by her son Campbell (Julie), Gold River, B.C.; her grandchildren, Laura (Graham) Stewart, Gibson, B.C., Dean (Leanne), Calgary, Alberta, Cameron (Catherine), Gold River, B.C., Christie (Rob) Edwards, Saan-ichton, B.C.; her great-grandchild-ren, Leanne, Taylor and Austin. Ress and her husband Vincent lived in Powell River for fifteen years until moving to West Vancouver. Both Ress and her husband Vincent were members of the Canadian Memorial United Church and sponsored C.G.I.T and youth groups in the 1960's. Her warmth, humor and vitality will be greatly missed by her friends and family. McMINN - Alexander. Born January 16, 1927. Died Friday September 25, 1998 peacefully at his home in the presence of his wife Matt, close family and friends. Matt expresses her sincere gratitude to her sister Chakra and friends who supported us in our time of need. A special thank you to Dr. C. Bergstrom for his care, compassion and understanding. A private service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 1998. In lieu of flowers donations could be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society.

KERR - Donald Grant. Peacefully passed away at Lions Gate Hospital, September 22, 1998, after a brave fight with cancer. Born March 29, 1924, Glasgow, Scotland. Pre-deceased by his first wife. Sadly missed by his second wife Pam and many friends. Survived by his 2 sons Stewart and Scott and their wives; grandchildren Kyle, Jessica and Jordan; overseas brother Dick and Archie; sister Cicily. How he loved a "wee hoff"and the international football games. He spent happy years on the soccer fields coaching the lads. Army-Navy Unit #45 will all miss the "wee man" and his friendly generosity and wit. He worked for North Van City Parks Board and requested there be no funeral. Thanks go to Dr. Brent Brown and nursing staff.

ASHWORTH - George William, age 92, of West Vancouver and Savary Island. Passed away on September 25, 1998. Bill was one of the first graduates of UBC. In 1926, he and his father built the Royal Savary Hotel on Savary Island where the family spent many happy summers. Fondly remembered by his wife, Marian, daughters Annabelle (Jim) Rissling, Martha (Dave) Reid and Debbie (Bruce) Leslie, and grandchildren Peter, Karen, Kirsten, Carrie and Ian. Bill will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Bill's life will be held next summer at Savary island.

MACEY - Deborah Lee (nee MacLeod). Born October 25, 1950. Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and their love, on September 19, 1998 in Vancouver. "Debbie" is survived by Dave Macey; her children Kim (Mitch), Todd (Colleen), Tobi (Mike); grandchildren Taylor, Madison, and Caleb; her sisters Jan (Dave), Heather (Milt); and brother Scott (Cyndia). "Debbie" touched the lives of everyone she met and will be missed. CURRIE - Neil Gordon. Passed away after a short and courageous battle with cancer on September 21, 1998. Neil was born on Thanksgiving Day, October 12, 1942 in North Vancouver, BC. Neil is predeceased by his father Roy Neil Currie. Neil is survived and deeply missed by his fiance Joanne Smith; mother Bertha Currie; son Darren Currie (Tosha); daughter Lee Anne Devlin (Brian); precious grandchildren Ryan and Stephanie; sisters Valerie Eakins (Doug) and Colleen Craigie (Don); and loving nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and many friends and co-workers. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to The Pallative Care Unit at Lions Gate Hospital or The Cancer Society. Many thanks to the Staff of the Pallative Care Unit and Dr. Berg-strom for their care and kindness to Neil.

MARRIOTT - Jill E. Born at Hamilton, Ontario on November 3, 1941. Passed away peacefully in North Vancouver on Wednesday, September 23, 1998. Survived by her loving husband and soulmate Laurence, her children David Marriott and Lesley Anne Marriott. Predeceased by her daughter Robyn and by her faithful companiom Lulu. Also survived by her sister Margaret Sykes (Arthur), and her brothers David Moreton (Olive) and Bernard Moreton (Freda). Predeceased by her brother Bill. Lovingly remembered by her family and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Simons Anglican Church, 1384 Deep Cove Rd., North Vancouver on Saturday September 26, 1998 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
