NICOL - Alastair McLean. Born May 22, 1921. Passed away peacefully on June 2, 1998 at Lions Gate Hospital. Al is survived by his loving wife Joan; son Doug (Cathy) and grandchildren Jenna and Hilary; daughter Alison (Stephen) and grandchildren Megan and Nicholas; sisters Jean McRae and Laurel Phillips and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son-in-law Gordon Snider (February 1988). Alastair served in the Second World War as a flight lieutenant in the Air Force and received the D.F.C. Al was active in the grocery trade since leaving the service and until his retirement, as an owner operator of a North Vancouver Super Valu. Since his retirement, Al was very active with the Air Force Officer's Association (Past President) and a director to date. Also his time was spent as a director of the West Van Rotary and he was a recipient of the Paul Harris award. Somehow he also made time to volunteer as a driver for the Canadian Cancer Society. Al will be sadly missed by his family and his many wonderful friends. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Peter Edmunds and the special staff at Palliative Care, Lions Gate Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 5, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Highlands United Church, 3255 Edgemont Blvd, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations to Highlands Memorial Fund (H.U.C.) or the Palliative Care, Lions Gate Hospital would be greatly appreciated.

STOCKWELL - Gwendoline Lilian of Langley, B.C. Formerly of North Vancouver, B.C. Passed away peacefully on June 2, 1998 at the age of 69 years. She is survived by her loving husband Derek; her children Julie (Chuck), Jonathan (Kathy); grandchildren Kimberly (Ray), Alana, Matthew; great-granddaughter Sienna; sister Gloria (Vance); niece Cori; and nephew Tony. She immigrated to Canada in 1957 from London, Eng-land and came to North Vancouver in 1973. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, at 2:30 p.m. in the Arbor Chapel at Valley View, 14660-72nd Avenue, Surrey, B.C. Cremation to follow. DeLUCA - Nancy. Died peacefully June 3, 1998 at Lions Gate Hospital with her family at her side. Born Newcastle, England March 3, 1916. Nancy is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Carmine "Fred"; her son David (Trudy); daughters Irene (Bob) Shaw, Cynthia, Sandra and Rita (John) Jerczynski. She was "Nana" to eleven grandchildren - John, Christine (Al), Debbie, Doug, Heather, Damian, Carla, Trevor, Chelsea, Sarah and James. She also leaves many relatives in England and Scotland. Nancy will be fondly remembered by many friends who know that her home and family were most important. Mom fought a long courageous battle with Arthritis and taught us what love, strength and determination can accomplish. The family wishes to thank the North Shore Home Support for their care and attention for many years; also the staff at Lions Gate Hospital where she fought her battles to get well and get back home. McMURRAY - Mary Louise. Passed away May 31, 1998. Predeceased by her sister Christina Ledgerwood. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her brother Robert (Marion) McMurray; nieces Deb (Don) Cary, Deirdre (Dave) McNeill, Denise (John) Donaldson; nephews Edward (Charlotte) McMurray, and Alan (Bev) McMurray; 9 grandnieces; 5 grandnephews, and many friends. DALY - Elizabeth Merren. Passed away peacefully on May 24, 1998 after a six year battle with cancer. She faced this disease with incredible courage, dignity and humor. To the very end Merren remained more concerned with how others were coping than with her own well being. She taught us much about living and these lessons, like her, will not be soon forgotten. HOODSPITH - Peacefully on May 21, 1998, Dorothy Iris Hoodspith of Squamish, aged 76 years. Dorothy was a longtime resident of West Vancouver prior to moving to Squamish in 1986. Predeceased by her husband Claudesley in 1994 and by her son Reid in 1995. She is lovingly remembered and will be forever missed by her son Robin, daughter-in-law Barbara, grandchildren Colin and Megan, brother Frank (Jim) Steele, sister Mrs Paddy England and her many dear friends. TINMUTH - Virginia Louise. On May 21, 1998 in her 91st year, a pioneer North Vancouver resident - In loving memory. Predeceased by her husband Arthur in 1970 and their daughter Pat Lowther in 1975. Virginia is survived by her loving family and their spouses. LONEY - Anna (Anne) Fjola on May 15, 1998 after a lengthy and valiant struggle with Parkinson's disease. She was predeceased by her husband and best friend John (Jack) A. Loney on October 23, 1997. An avid bridge player and golfer, she was a member of the Vancouver Golf Club. In addition to her many dear friends, she will be missed by her brother Oli Gislason of Arborg, Manitoba and her loving nieces and nephews. No service by requet. HENNESSEN - Henry. Beloved husband of Maria, for 50 years, passed away on May 24, 1998 in his 78th year at the Vancouver General Hospital. He will be deeply and sadly missed by his daughter Barbara (Neil), granddaughter Kristeen, relatives in Germany, as well as friends. No service by request. MIDDLETON - Mona Mary (nee Collins). Born Oct 16, 1913; passed away peacefully at Evergreen House May 10, 1998 following many years of declining health. Grieving are husband Les; 8 brothers and sisters; 5 children; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grand children and 1 great-great-grandchild as well as many spouses. This outstanding lady held a great passion for life and her numerous accomplishments were far beyond the ordinary. A family service has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 1998 at 12 noon at North Shore Alliance Church (St. Georges & 23rd St, North Vancouver). MOTTIE - Marguerite (Queenie). Passed away on May 17, 1998 at Lions Gate Hospital. Queenie was born in England on June 24, 1912 and came to Canada when she was 18. She worked for the Duncans in the Ruskin General Store and then the Heather Tea Room in Vancouver. She moved to Pioneer Mines and married Eddie. They later moved to the house in North Vancouver that became her home for more than 50 years. Queenie was predeceased by Ed in 1981 and is survived by Fran (Dana) of California and Doreen (Tony) and Nicole, Danielle & Chantal of Burnaby. Also Chester the Cat and all her friends including P.J. and Marge. Thanks to all who helped take care of her these past few months. "The street will never be the same without Queenie!".

WILSON - Colin Andrew. Passed away May 16, 1998 at 9:00 p.m. Survived by his loving wife Lois; children Pamela (Bob), Ross (Hajra), Leslie (Don), Meaghan, Robert (Pat); six grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and brothers Ross and Donald. DONNER - Jean. Born in Belfast, Ireland on November 27, 1909. Passed away peacefully in North Vancouver on Tuesday, May 19, 1998. Beloved wife of the late Arthur Donner. Predeceased by her daughter Louise Ann Reiter. Lovingly remembered by her many friends. BROOKS - John Paddy. Born May 17, 1921 in London, England. Passed away May 19, 1998. He is survived by sister Kit, son and daughter-in-law Terry and Connie, step-daughter Pam, step-granddaughters Barbara and Deborah, and step-great-grandson Ryan. John served in the British Army (Desert Rats) throughout World War II and was a life member of Legion #60. FRASER - James. Passed away peacefully on May 19, 1998 at West Vancouver. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 26, 1907. Jim moved to Canada in 1922 settling in Toronto and then to Montreal residing in Lachine, where he was employed by the Sun Life Insurance Company for over 30 years in the positions of Junior Board Director and Manager of the Claims Department. Jim was a founding member of the Wapoos Sibi Club in Northern Quebec, where he spent many happy times engaged in his favourite past time, fly fishing. An avid athlete all his life, Jim was an enthusiastic hiker until his 90th year. Predeceased by his loving wife Mickey in 1983. He will be sadly missed by his loving family: daughter Linda (Nicholas); grandson Jonathan; son James (Sharon) and granddaughter Samantha; sisters Cathy of Australia and Isabel of Georgia, as well as many nephews, nieces and friends. KOVATS - Andrew Charles. With great sorrow, the family announces his sudden death on Wednesday, May 13, 1998 in West Vancouver, B.C. Born on December 23, 1905 in Hungary. As an electrical engineer, he practised at Northern Telecom in Montreal, Quebec. Retired in 1969 as Vice President and Director of International Operations. Survived by Edith Schoepflin, his beloved wife of 62 years, dear father of Andrew and Edith, and grandfather of four grandsons. Private funeral services were held in West Vancouver, B.C. on May 17, 1998.

SANFORD - Muriel Audrey (nee Thacker). Born November 2, 1912. Passed away peacefully on May 20, l998. Predeceased by her devoted husband, Aubrey, in 1985. Muriel is survived by her loving family; daughter Judy (Gustafson); son Tony; grandchildren Carla (David Cherniawsky), Peter (Janette), Bryan (Angela), Craig and Rhett Gustafson; great-grandchildren Paul and Hayley Cherniawsky, Kirk, Kyle, Kelsey Gustafson. SANKEY - Jeanie Gillespie, in her 92nd year. Passed away in Lions Gate Hospital on May 18, 1998 after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Frederick William Sankey, and her second husband Harvey Thomas Robinson Sankey. Survived by her three children Fred (Lorna); Jannine Barnes; and Joe (Sandy); and one step-son Rollie (Elsie); and grandchildren Yvonne Dickson (Todd); Marilyn Gale (Brian); Sylvia Cavassini (Reno); Cameron and Avril Barnes; Jenell and Melissa Sankey; and two step-grandchildren, Wayne Sankey (Judy) and Dale Gould (Glen); and great-grandchildren, Alannah and Bryan Dickson; Joseph and Jillian Gale; Leanne, Marco and Sabrina Cavassini; Jennifer and Steven Sankey; Jasmine and Brittany Gould, also numerous friends, former senior bowlers, members of the IODE and special neighbours. Jeanie will be remembered for her dedication as secretary to her two senior ten-pin bowling leagues, her never-ending knitting for the IODE and her selfless devotion to her family. A service in celebration of her life will be held at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church at 23rd Street and St. Georges Avenue, North Vancouver, Friday May 22 1998, at 1:00 p.m. Pastors Floyd Grunau and Shirley Love officiating. After a brief, courageous battle with cancer, our beloved husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather passed away peacefully on May 16, 1998 in Lions Gate Hospital, at the age of 76 years. Besides his wife Hendrica, he will be lovingly remembered by his sons Robert, Peter, and Adrian; his daughters-in-law Lindsay, Maureen and Susan; his grandchildren Sandra, Allan, Erica, Shannon, Melissa, Courtney, and Bailey, as well as relatives in the Netherlands. HALL - Ralph. Passed away last weekend on the North Shore. A newspaper man for 56 years, he also served on Council on the North Shore. BJARNASON - Donald Albert. Passed away on May 10, 1998 in his 71st year. He is survived by his loving wife, Myrt; daughters and sadly missed by his three grandsons, Ty, Ryan and Kyle. The family wishes to thank the many kind thoughts, prayers, deeds and help shown to Don by his brothers, nieces, nephews, relatives and many, many, friends. He touched so many, he was loved, he was special, he was the salt of the earth. We will miss him. DIETRICH - Bernhard E. Born March 14, 1934 passed away suddenly on May 9, 1998. Survived by his loving wife Renate, his brother Lorenz (Inge), his children Bernard (Joanne), Gary (Nancy), Michelle (Dave) and his five grandchildren whom he cherished. Bernhard was a much loved son-in-law to Franziska Rost, and he will be forever missed by his many dear friends and family in Canada and Germany. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, May 16, 1998 at 3:00 p.m. at the Park Royal Hotel. In lieu of flowers, donations to BC Childrens Hospital, in his memory, gratefully accepted.

PEARSON - Lorne. Age 49. Passed away on Friday, May 8, 1998 after a lengthy illness. Sadly missed by his daughter Krista in Langley, his mother Evelyn in Castlegar, his brothers, Wayne (Susan) also in Castlegar and Ron (Corinne) in North Vancouver, uncle John Stally (Grace) in Paris, Ontario, and several nieces and nephews. KELLY - Lloyd Ernest Thornton. Born in Vancouver August 6, 1919 - May 11, 1998. Predeceased by father and mother, Ernest and Hulda; sister, Jean and beloved granddaughter Laura. Much loved husband, father and grandfather to wife of 51 years Barbara; sons, Douglas (Gwen), Michael (Sylvia), Clifford (Sandra), Peter (Kristin) and David (Lois). Grandchildren: 9 grandsons and 3 granddaughters. Also survived by sister Loreen McAdam, niece and nephews. Lloyd was an employee of Woodward's Food Floor for 47 years. He was an ardent curler, tennis player and bowler. The family extend their everlasting gratitude to Drs. Penner, Yue, Sabiston and Klimo; also their nurses and staff and the nursing staff of 7 West, Lions Gate Hospital for their compassion and devotion to patient care. December 20, 1920 - May 11, 1998. Much loved husband of Victoria Jean and beloved father of Tony (Kelly) and George (Stefanie). He leaves also two beautiful grandchildren, Keara and David. Graduate of Shawnigan Lake School. War service with the B.C. Dragoons. Overseas duty where he attained his commission at the Royal Military College, Sand-hurst, U.K. Retired 15 years ago from Chevron Canada after 37 years of service.

Predeceased by grandparents Charlie and Harriet Newman and Benjamin and Katherine Cordocedo; parents Herbert G. and Lena Newman; husband Steven Anthony Wright; sister Dorothy Planes; and son Richard. Survived and will be sadly missed by sister Frances Barnes (Irvin); brother Herbert "Sonny' Newman; sons Norman (Connie) and Kenneth; daughters Valerie Taylor (Dean) and Julie; grandchildren Gregory, Carri-Lynn, Susan, Christine, Curtis, Geoffrey and Bryan and many loving relatives and dear friends. Prayers will be held Thursday, May 14, 1998 at 7:30 p.m. at the Squamish Nation Recreation Centre, 100 Capilano Road, North Vancouver. Followed by Funeral Service on Friday, May 15, 1998 at 10:30 a.m., also at the Squamish Nation Recreation Centre. Father Dennis Alexander OMI Celebrant. Cremation. CAMPBELL - David. Passed away at St. Paul's Hospital on May 7, 1998. Born in Scotland on December 20, 1945. David was a well known North Shore Hair Stylist. He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, sons Rhys and Damon, brother Brian of Eng-land and Aunt Annie of Scotland. A private family memorial service will be held. Donations to a charity of choice.
