JOHNSEN - Ragnhild N. born November 23, 1913 in Drammen, Norway passed away suddenly January 20, 1998 after long illnesses. Karl and Ragnhild celebrated their 60th anniversary March 20, 1997 with family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was "Mamma" to old and young. Sadly missed by her family, loved by everyone. Ragnhild came to Toronto from Oslo, Norway in 1954 with four children and late husband Karl, daughters Bjorg and Tone, sons Robert, Wilfred (Antoinetta). Nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren born in Canada. A private memorial service was held at the end of January.

ARMATAGE - Colin of West Vancouver on April 5, 1998. Born in Nanaimo September 21, 1914. Predeceased by his sister Ester; brother Carmen and great-grandchild Amanda. Survived by his loving wife Margaret; sons Dennis (Mary), Bill (Marcelle); daughter Lynn (Brett); grandchildren Marnie (Harvey), Tracey, Jennifer, Sean, Laura and Robbie; great-grandchildren Justin and Craig; sister-in-law Betty. Colin was second generation Canadian and spent most of his life in B.C. Starting his adult life as a dairy farmer in Abbotsford, he then moved to the lumber industry in Telegraph Cove. Colin continued in the lumber trade in the lower mainland while working for MacMillan Bloedel for 35 years. A lover of the outdoors he spent many happy hours in his garden, and camping in his trailer. His love of music, construction, photography, traveling and church activities filled his very active life. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Special thanks to Dr. Janz and the staff of the Palliative Care Ward at Lions Gate Hospital for their special loving care. HOLLAND - Roy Edward Lancelot. Passed away April 3, 1998 at the age of 88. A Master Mariner, he served as the Harbour Master of Vancouver from 1965 until 1975. He was also well-known locally as one of the founders of the Hollyburn Sailing Club. Upon retirement he returned to the sea, working on sailing ships in the Caribbean and on deep sea merchant ships around the world. He was a skipper for Harbour Ferries of Vancouver well into his seventies. Captain "Dutch" Holland is survived by his wife Bridget, his daughters Lizanne and Sheena, his sons Sean and Rory, and nine grandchildren. His ashes will be committed to Manson's Deep in a private family ceremony.

MORRILL - Dr. Stanley Fred. Born December 4, 1924, Schreiber, Ontario. Died peacefully March 28, 1998. Our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle is sadly missed by his loving wife Eleanor; his sons and daughters Meredith, Chris, Nancy, Pat, Keith and Beth; his grandchildren Thea, Morgan, Natalie, Jacki, Andre, Katie, Connor, Erica and Mallory. Dr. Morrill graduated from Queen's University Medical School in 1949. He interned for one year at St. Michael's Hospital (Toronto) and one year at Sunnybrook Hospital (Toronto). After practising as a family doctor in Northern Ontario for twelve years, in his kind and gentle manner he faithfully cared for his patients at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver for 35 years until his recent retirement. Caring and dignified, he lived his life gracefully, always taking care of others.

An inspirational, vibrant and much loved woman; wife; mother and grandmother; an active life member of Beta Sigma Phi; and a North Shore resident for over 35 years, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved-ones on April 5, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer. NEWBERY - Mary-Anne Elizabeth (Mollie) (nee Dowler). Passed away on April 4, 1998 at the Lions Gate Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband John; daughter Pam Harris and son-in-law Brett Harris of Calgary; daughter Janet Rinvold of Calgary and grandchildren Chris and Dani Harris, Michael and Tony Rinvold. Born in Calgary and raised in Red Deer, Alberta, she started her broadcasting career at CKRD, Red Deer. She then worked at CFAC in Calgary and CKWX in Vancouver. Mollie went into the strata management business in 1976 and managed properties in North and West Vancouver and Vancouver. Mollie was an active volunteer in the Womens Guild at St Martin's Anglican Church, Calgary and St Stephen's Anglican Church, West Vancouver where she was also active in the Altar Guild and was a member of the Church Council for many years. Mollie was very proud of her Irish Ancestry as her many friends would attest. She will be missed by many. KIRK - Catherine Clara (Stewart). Died peacefully at Evergreen House on March 18, 1998 in her 100th year. Born and educated in Montreal, and a resident of North Vancouver since 1960. Predeceased by her husbands John Powell Jones in 1960 and by James Kirk in 1982. Survived by her sons Alan Jones (Sheila) and Lloyd Jones (Kathleen); six grandchildren Nancy, Stewart (Boudina), Donna (Brian), Carol (Chris), Sharon (Chris), Sheila (Tim); and 11 great-grandchildren Jonathon, Andrew, Ian, Lauren, Tyler, Simon, Katrina, Lycia, Catherine, Matthew, Jennifer. Throughout her life, Catherine played a leadership role in community and church organizations. The Anglican Church Women recognized her years of devoted work with a life membership and she was a much honoured member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 70 years. Besides her charitable work, her greatest joy was her family, especially the children. Her loving nature and sense of humour never left her. Survived by loving daughter Cathy, husband Reg, brother Doug (Diane), sister Beanie (Lyle), nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. Marg's love and concern for her fellow B.C. Tel workers and many other friends was a beautiful thing, and throughout her fight with cancer, they surrounded her with their love and support. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. at First Memorial at 602 Kingsway on Friday, April 3, 1998. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the B.C. Cancer Society. All friends are invited to join the family at 318 East 22nd Street following the service.
WHALEN - Robert John (Bob). Born June 18, 1923. Passed away March 27, 1998. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Phyllis; son Mark (Stacey); daughters Michele, Mari (Alex); grandchildren Stephanie, Jeremy; his sister Joan; and niece Anne. He was predeceased by his brother Jim. His family was prominent in the pulp and paper industry in Ontario, (Thunder Bay) and B.C.; in the 1920's and 30's. Bob proudly served in the RCAF as a wireless air gunner, (Squadron 279 & 407), in WWII. He was an avid supporter and follower of the B.C. Lions. Private service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
