EDE - Arnold Herbert. Born in Vancouver on January 21, 1925. Passed away December 2, 1999. Arnold was a longtime resident of West and North Vancouver. He was a North Shore soccer coach as well as a life member of the Norvan Power Squadron. He taught Squadron courses up until the time of his death. He is remembered by his wife Margaret Elizabeth (Betty); sons Bob, Bill (Tracy), Doug and Jamie (Brenda) and daughter Beth (Bruce); grandchildren Jordan, Elizabeth, Molly, Robert, Graham and Duncan; sisters Barbara and Beverley. Arnold was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family, friends and colleagues will deeply miss his humour and will forever admire his courage and determination in overcoming life's obstacles without complaint. PRIEBE - Eckehart Johannes Treuherz. Passed away suddenly in his West Vancouver home on Monday, December 6, 1999 at the age of 83. Born in Berlin-Grunewald on June 24, 1916, he served as a fighter pilot of the Luftwaffe and with the Legion Condor in the Spanish Civil War in 1937/38 until severely wounded. Shot down over England during the Battle of Britain, he was sent to Canada as a prisoner of war for 5 1/2 years. During this time he fell in love with Canada and returned to the country of his captivity as an immigrant in 1952. He became a partner in a travel agency in Vancouver before opening an office for Lufthansa German Airlines in Toronto. Throughout the years he was always active as a freelance journalist, and after moving back to Vancouver following his retirement from Lufthansa, he became the editor-in-chief of Canada's only nationwide German-language weekly, the "Kanada Kourier". An avid sailor, Ecki loved people and "people watching". He had a passion for life and lived it to the fullest. Predeceased by first wife Helga, he will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Sylvia, daughter Karin and husband Axel, son Klaus and wife Mary, grandchildren, Peter, Monica, Katherine and Bobby, step-daughter Susan, and his many other friends and loved ones.
