Cst. Jimmy Ng
June 15, 1970 - September 15, 2002

Eulogy for Cst. Jimmy Ng:

Delivered on Saturday, September 20, 2002 by Staff Sergeant John A. Buis, Watch Commander for "C" Watch, Richmond Detachment, Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Jimmy was unique an only child of his parents Chris and Therese. He grew up in Richmond and returned to serve in his community as a peace officer, a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Jimmy left us with memories of his integrity, his commitment to do what was right, his devotion to duty he took a call when he didnt have to.

To us, the members and civilian staff of C Watch: Cal, Lesli, Wij, Glen, J.J., Tammy, Matt, Dave, Danny, Adrian, Ben, Suzanne, Sandy, Baljinder, Kate, Jean, Jag, Thane, Jim, Nick, Mike, Patrick, Alex, Arlene, Sue, Shauna, Ruth and Patricia . . . and all of Richmond Detachment . . . he left us with memories of a star . . . memories of a sincere, willing listener, of a brother, teacher, mentor, talented police officer and friend . . . a gentleman with a quiet competence, the answer to everything . . . except of course, fashion sense. He also had trouble coming in from the cold as some of you may recall the heavily bandaged frost bitten ear from his Depot days.

To us, Jimmy was dedicated to being thoughtful and helpful towards others, an amazing man, member and friend.

Jimmy . . . we will all live with the memory of your quick, beautiful smile . . . and it will make us smile too. We will never forget you Jimmy and we will always try to make you proud.

The loss of someone so young . . . and so promising . . . effects us all now, and will continue to affect us for the rest of our lives. When a community loses someone so young and full of promise, the community loses part of its future.

With this terrible tragedy this untimely death we have all lost a piece of our future. This community Jimmys community will rise beyond the question Why did it happen? and we will begin to ask the question What do we do now that this has happened?

Jimmys contribution to his community and the memories we have of him will help us survive this terrible loss. We will be able to pursue changes and strengthen the police-community bonds.

Our Watch became a better Watch because of this gentle soul and Richmond Detachment became a better place to be because of this dedicated police officer. We thank his parents for their wonderful son who has so enriched our community.

Jimmy will remain with all of us for the rest of our lives because of the way he lived his life through helping others.

Emerson provides some words that aptly describe Jimmy:

"To laugh often and love much.
To appreciate beauty.
To find the best in others.
To give of ones self.
This is to have succeeded,"
. . . as Jimmy Ng has.
