Goritsas Goritsas, John D. departed this life on December 13, 2008 at the age of 70.He is survived by his wife Ruth, daughter Frances (Ioannis) Goudelis of Phoenix, Arizona and son Demetri of London, England; also brothers Bill (Polene) of Clearbrook; Greg (Angie) of Abbotsford; Tom (Carmen) of Abbotsford; sisters; Kathy (Jim) Dimas of Vancouver; Sophie (Mike) Trikas of Hamilton, Ontario; Many nieces, nephews and sisters and brothers in law. Predeceased by parents Demetrios and Elene Goritsas; sister Maria. He had been a long time member of the Rotary Club of Prince George & The Mason's Nechako Lodge #86. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 1pm from the Koimisis Tis Theotokou (Greek Orthodox Church) at 511 South Tabor Blvd with Fr. Ted Gova officiating. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the SPCA. Assman's Dignity Memorial in care of arrangements. John will be dearly missed by his loving family. Nona Candis Bencher BENCHER, Nona Candis - Nona's family is saddened to announce her sudden passing on April 8, 2008, at the age of 43. She leaves behind her loving husband, Rod Payne, and her daughters, Saylor and Storm, who were the lights of her life. Also left to grieve her passing are her parents, Raymond and Emily Bencher, brother, Don (Melody), niece, Bailey, and the entire Payne family. Nona was born in Prince George on Dec. 19, 1964. She was a proud member of the Nak'azdli First Nation band. One of her greatest joys was being outdoors, where she could absorb all the wonders of Mother Nature. Nona could out-fish anyone in the boat and was also a skilled hunter. Nona loved to laugh and to make others laugh. No matter the occasion, she always had a joke to tell. These qualities put her at the centre of every family gathering. Her presence will be greatly missed. A memorial service and reception for Nona will be held on Monday, April 14, at 2 p.m. at the Blackburn Community Centre, 2451 South Blackburn Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation. Martin Brietzke BRIETZKE - Martin "Jack" passed away suddenly at home on November 20th, 2006 at the age of 67. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Jo-Anne, brothers: Don (Lorna), David (Aletta), sister LaVerne (Bill) Egan, stepsister: Sue (Bob) Sych, daughter: Veronica (Mike) Shortland, sons: Martin & Jack, granddaughters: Tracey & Tabetha Shortland and Kim (Dennis) Young, his great grandchildren: Katherine, Kayla, Darren & Katie, numerous extended family and friends. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. There will be no service by request. Donations may be made to the Prince George Regional Hospital's Pain Clinic. Dennis Montgomery Dennis Montgomery lost his courageous battle with cancer on October 7, 2008, at the age of 55, in Mackenzie, BC. Born in Neepawa, Manitoba he spent his youth there and in Calgary, Alberta. He moved to Yellowknife, NWT in the early 70's with work. While there he joined the volunteer fire department, beginning his passion for fire fighting, education and prevention. Dennis lived in Whitecourt then Peace River, Alberta. Attending the Alberta Fire Training school and was an instructor. He also worked for the Fire Commissioner's Office, training Fire Departments in Northern Alberta. In 1986 he was back in Yellowknife as a full time lieutenant and then to Dawson City, Yukon becoming the first full time Fire Chief since the gold rush days. He made a career move to Mackenzie, BC where he was Fire Chief from 1991 to 2006. Dennis gathered many awards through his 33 year career but his greatest achievement was making friends of all that he met. Dennis enjoyed instructing and was an avid hunter and golfer. He loved spending time with family and friends. Dennis will long be remembered for his humour, his generosity and his love for life. He is sadly missed by: his wife Sheila, three daughters Hailey (Rory), Amanda (Nick), Sydney (Dave) and two sons Andy and Craig, three grandchildren Alexander, Oliver and Eva, mother Doreen, father Mervyn, sister Sandra (Jim), brother Bud (Debbie) their family's, mother in law, and numerous relatives and friends. Francis George "Bus" Parker 1916 - 2008 It is with regret that we announce the passing of Francis George "Bus" Parker on July 10, 2008 at Prince George Regional Hospital, and the passing of an era for the Parker family. Bus was born on January 3, 1916 in Carman, Manitoba. He was raised on the family homestead in Sperling, Manitoba, and before his death at age 92, was one of the last surviving members of the first generation of children born to homesteaders in the Sperling area. Bus knew every homestead family in the area and was a wealth of historical knowledge about settling and farming the southern Manitoba plains. Bus loved farming and over the years farmed both the family homestead in Sperling and a farm in Wisconsin. In addition, he had a career in auto mechanics and was, at one point, the head engineer for American Crop Dryer Association in Illinois. Bus was a dual citizen of Canada and the U.S. and spent a considerable amount of time on both sides of the border. Being in the U.S. at the time of WWII, he found himself serving in the U.S. Army as a noncommissioned officer, and his tour of duty took him throughout Europe during the war. He was a member of the unit that liberated Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany, an experience that he had difficulty sharing. Bus was fiercely independent. At age 90, he moved into a new home with "a bigger workshop" because he still had many projects he wanted to complete. He was very proud of many personal inventions, especially those that helped him stay independent in his old age. The one that gave him the greatest satisfaction was a device he invented that helped him put his coat on without having to raise his arms when his arthritis was acting up. Bus is survived by three daughters, Barbara Parker (Dr. Tom Young) of Prince George, Mary Ellen Rogers (Bruce) of Phoenix, Arizona, Teresa Hammitt of Los Lunas, New Mexico, one son, Andrew George (Holly) Parker of Afton, Wyoming, 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The family is extremely grateful to all those who helped Bus through the difficult path of Alzheimers, including Home Care staff in Carman, Manitoba, the Prince George Chateau, We Care staff in Prince George, Drs. Marquis, Veale and Drummond, and particularly the staff on IMU pod D whose kind and loving treatment made his final months special and satisfying. Bus' cremated remains will be interred in the Parker family plot with his parents and sister in Sperling, Manitoba at a later date. Larry James Disher Funeral arrangements for the late Larry James Disher to be held at Assman's Funeral Chapel in Prince George, BC, Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 4:00pm Larry was born in Prince Rupert, BC on March 30, 1931. Larry passed away at home in Prince George, BC, November 10, 2008. He was predeceased by his parents David and Christina Disher; brothers: David Disher, Don Disher (Evellyn); sisters: Alice Patrick (Johnny), Millie Perkins (Elmer), Della; sister-in-law: Ethel; brother-in-law: Eddie Hildabrand; son: Larry David Disher; son-in-law: Danny Mosher. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia Disher and their children: Bill (Bonnie), Don (Jannene), Bruce (Susie), Patsy Harrison (Brian), Warren (Deana), Rhoda Mosher, Lyle (Carol Ann), Joe (Jocelyn); daughter-in-law: Sophie; 26 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Albert Pierre Louis Gobin GOBIN - Albert Pierre Louis, May 16, 1925 - Sept 2, 2008. Albert grew up in St. Claude, Manitoba where he farmed with his family until he went overseas with the PPCLI. In 1946 he married Louise and they made their home in BC. Bert and Louise moved from Surrey to Prince George in 1973 and spent many happy years camping, fishing and hunting with the family. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and seeing the arrival of his two great grandchildren. Survived by his loving wife Louise, son Ronald (Donna), daughter Wendy (Bill); grandchildren Sherry (Lance), Janice, David (Megan), Michael (Liza), Paul (Robyn) and great grandchildren Tyler and Liam. Bert will be remembered for his story telling, quick wit and wonderful sense of humour. A special thank you to Dr. Textor & Dr. Riome for their loving care! Till we meet again Dad! Hugh Macartney WALLER It is with deep sadness, we say good-bye to our dad, HUGH MACARTNEY WALLER. Hugh was born October 15, 1922 in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his wife, Flo Waller (nee Lowe) in 2000. Hugh is survived by his family of five children. Denise (Art) Webb; Kathy (John) Verhagen; Ken (Anne); Greg (Judy) and Doug (Kathleen); eleven grandchildren: Ryan, Scott, Lauren, Greg, Caitlin, Liam, Sean, Tristan, Nic, Jessica, and Dayna; sisters Muriel (Guiguet) and Jean (Cutler); many nieces, nephews and cousins and special friend, Alice Bruce. He is a veteran of World War II (1943-45), former Lieutenant Officer in the Navy. Dad's lifelong affinity to the sea is exemplified by his honoured days in the Navy and his enjoyed days of sailing and fishing. He was a member of a number of community organizations including Prince George Kinsman and Rotary, and a founding member of the Prince Rupert Kinsman club. An avid athlete, he participated in softball, curling, basketball and hockey. A caring and loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sidney/North Saanich Yacht Club. 1949 Marina Way, North Saanich JIM BELADO OCT. 20 1943 - NOV. 2008 It is with great sorrow that I announce the sudden death of my husband, best friend and fishing buddy Jim Belado. Jim was born in Prince George, Oct 20, 1943. After high school he spent 3 years in the PPCLI and on return to Prince George, had several jobs before he started with the Prince George Fire Department where he was employed until 2002 when he retired. Survived by his wife Alice, son David ( Michelle ) and grandchildren Nena and Carmaine, sisters Zena ( Derek) Francis, Mary ( David ) Honeyman and brother Fred, sister-in law Betty Belado and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Father Peter Belado, Mother Minnie Belado and Sister Nena Hogh, Brothers Joe, John (Anne) Belado and Brother William. No service by request. Katherina "Katie" Fehr FEHR, Katherina "Katie", of Vanderhoof, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, Sept. 19, 2008. April 9, 1911 - December 2, 2008, 97 years old, born in Zealandia, Sask, passed away peacefully at his home, in Laurier Manor. He will be sadly missed by his 2 surviving children Wayne (Linda) and Leola (Bill). He was predeceased by Evelyn, his 1st wife of 30 years in 1967, his brothers Neal and Roy, a son Edward in 2008, and a daughter Arlene in 2007. He also had a long time friend Jean, who passed away a few years ago. He leaves to mourn 14 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Through the years he farmed, trucked and in 1956 he moved from Alberta to Prince George. He then worked as a welder - Retiring at age 71. After retiring he became a Guide for Hunters, working with his long time friend Fred Colebank, who also predeceased him. He spent a few years after his retirement, doing odd jobs and repairing things at the Brunswick Street Seniors Center. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Loved bowling and did so up until 3 years ago. He loved to talk about life's experiences, especially hunting. He will be missed by his Saturday morning coffee pals: Steve, Ian, Ken, Paul, Dave, Rick, and Lyle. There will be no funeral service held at his request. There will be a open house/Celebration of his life early in the new year. Pearl Vera Fors FORS - Pearl Vera passed away December 11, 2008, at the age of 89 years. Pearl was predeceased by her husband, Wilmore; son, Wayne and great grandson Christopher Desjardins; and is survived by daughters Eleanor Desjardins (Jack Emms) and Brenda Fors (George Moyan); sons Dennis (Barbara), Dwight (Donna) and Vernon (Francine); grandchildren, Darryl Desjardins; Loreen Obst, Desne Hall, Calvin Fors, Benjamin Fors, Tracy Gough, Troy Fors, Shawn Fors, Virgil Moyan, Ryan Fors and Devin Fors; great grandchildren Stephanie, Kyle, Brandon, Liam, Riley, Tara, Jena, Jocelyn, Colton, Cameron and Lucas; niece Delma McLain and numerous other relatives and friends. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at 11:00am at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on the Hart Highway.
