VELMA BERNICE TERRY LEMAY
March 10, 1938 - July 24, 2005
Velma Lemay passed away suddenly at her residence in Winnipeg, Man., at the age of 67 years.
Beloved mother and mother-in-law to: Larry and Sandy, Lori, Darryl, Jerry and Kathy, Dwayne and Darcy, all of Winnipeg, Darlene Friesen of Steinbach, Man.; grandchildren: Kristy, Kyle of Winnipeg, Amanda of B.C., Micheal, Amy of Winnipeg, Brendon, Chantel of Winnipeg, James, Sadie of Steinbach; great-grandchildren: McKenzie of B.C., Skyler, Daniel, Iris of Winnipeg, Abbi of Steinbach; brothers and sister of Bowmanville, Ont.
Mom's wishes were to be cremated and burial to take place in Bowmanville, Ont. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 29, 2005 at 7 p.m.

WILLIAM WACHTENDORF
Wednesday, July 13, 2005, William Wachtendorf, age 79, died peacefully at his home on the farm near Niverville, Man. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Minnie; children, Reg (Lora), Darl (Bruce), Cheryl (Paul), and Tricia (David); precious grandchildren, Odin, Megan, Evan, Shannon, Amy, and Brett; sister Mary; sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Mary; and many family members and friends here and abroad. Bill was predeceased by his treasured son Chad and brother Fred.
Bill took over his father's farm in 1949. Together with his sons he ran a mixed grain and hog farm, and for many years was in the sugar beet industry. As a younger man, he also served for 20 years as police constable in the Hanover Municipality.
He will be forever remembered for his commitment to the community, devotion to his family, lively hog roast parties, hobby buffalo farm, and love of the land.
A memorial service was held Sunday, July 17, 3 p.m., at the 4th Avenue Bible Church, Niverville, Man. Interment followed at the Niverville Main Street Cemetery.

ED WIEBE
Oct. 2, 1928 - July 26, 2005
Tuesday morning, surrounded by his loving family, Ed made his final Long Distance trip. He peacefully left his earthly body; and his soul and spirit entered the presence of Jesus.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor (Bergman), with whom he had shared 33 1/2 years of marriage. Also remaining to cherish and treasure his memory are five children and their families: daughter Carmelle with husband Greg Recksiedler (Shane, Tiffany, Cole); sons, Darian and wife Helen (Blake, Erica), Riley and wife Carolyn (Courtney, Korey, Brett), Jared and wife Terri Lynn (Justin, Brooklynn), Jason and Carrie (Vienna). He is also survived by six brothers and four sisters and their families: Bill and Irene (High River, Alta.), Henry and Frieda (Edmonton, Alta.), Bernie and Loreena (Vancouver, B.C.), Peter and Alvina (Steinbach, Man.), Jake and Margaret (Winnipeg, Man.), Ray and Margaret (Steinbach), Dorothy (Wilmer) Fast of Steinbach, Alma Bartel of Nova Scotia, Hilda (Cornie) Kroeker of Vancouver, and Helen (Gladstone) Penner of Steinbach. He will also be deeply missed by the "Bergman" in-laws and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Bernice, his parents, a stillborn grandson Kyle, a sister Bertha Bartel, and brother-in-law Paul Bartel.
Ed was born in Randolph, Man. As a teenager, he began driving truck for his father's business. Later he was employed at Penner's Transfer (now Penner International) as a mechanic, local milk hauler, a long distance driver and finally as Long Distance Dispatcher. His employment at Penner's spanned 44 years. He took pride in the fact that he had worked for only one employer, although his bosses included three generations of the Penner family.
Two heart attacks in the 1990s influenced Ed's retirement plans. He now had time to work on all his hobbies. This included repairing and restoring antique trucks and motorcycles, and designing and building a "prototype" snow-plane, which he had hoped to complete for this coming winter. He enjoyed cross-country skiing in winter. He always had time to check his children's vehicles for minor touchups or repairs. More recently he began enjoying breakfast "out" and he would suggest any imaginable excuse as a reason to go out for breakfast with me (Eleanor).
Ed acknowledged Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the age of 26. He has referred to this as a real turning point in his life, discarding a variety of negative habits. He found deliverance and freedom in Christ in dealing with difficult issues in his life. He enjoyed serving as usher in the church and tried to be the best usher possible. In recent years his personal devotions became an important part of his daily routine and he grew in inner strength and knew God's peace. He prayed for his children and grandkids, numerous missionaries, and current events that touched his compassion.
As a family we are deeply saddened by his "too soon" passing, but we know we will meet him again in glory. We also want to acknowledge the care he received at Bethesda Hospital and St. Boniface, giving special thanks to Dr. Bullock Pries, Dr. Giesbrecht and Barb Klassen.
The service celebrating Ed's life will take place Saturday, July 30, 2005 at Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church at 10:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Heritage Cemetery. Viewing with a short devotional will take place Friday at 7 p.m. at Steinbach Funeral Home.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to Family Life Network focusing on Christian broadcasting into Eastern Europe and Asia.

Thomas Kenneth (Ken) McDonald
September 15, 1931 - August 4, 2005
With great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of our husband, father, grandfather and friend, Ken McDonald.
Ken grew up in England and married Margaret, and together they immigrated to Canada in 1959. They moved to Manitoba and lived in Winnipeg, Thompson, Dominion City, and for the last 20 years, have lived happily in Ste. Anne, Man.
Ken had a variety of careers including being a member of the Cumbria (England) Police Force, City of Winnipeg Police Force, INCO, and owner of the Queen's Hotel in Dominion City. Dad retired from the Manitoba Government.
Dad lived life with passion and enthusiasm, and made an impact wherever he went. Dad had an infectious "can do" spirit, and had to do THE BEST in everything he did! He was the main founder of the Thompson Knights of Columbus Indoor Track Meet, and was thrilled to be the guest of honour at the 25th anniversary of the games. In Ste. Anne, he founded and organized the town's junior soccer league. Dad coached junior curling, and was nominated for the 2005 Manitoba Coaching Excellence award in that sport. Dad was an athlete and competitor in many sports. As a young man he played rugby at the international level for the British Police Force. Lately he was an avid golfer at the Oakwood golf course and an integral member of the Ste. Anne Curling Club.
Dad's zest for life and passion for excellence will be remembered and treasured by Margaret, his wife of 51 years; children Paula Ashcroft (Robert), Jill Overall (Eric), Ian, and Steve (Irene); grandchildren Mitch, Paul, Matt, Rebecca and Samantha; sisters Mary Smallwood (John) and Betty Roe (Alan) in England; and brother-in-law James Taggerty in England.
The funeral was held Monday, Aug. 8, 2005 at the Roman Catholic Church in Ste. Anne. Interment at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken's memory may be made to the Ste. Anne Hospital Fund, Ste. Anne, MB, R5H 1C4.

Clara Penner
1940 - 2005
Clara Penner of Steinbach passed away at Bethesda Hospital on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005.
She was predeceased by her parents Abram and Katherine Penner and her brother Victor. She leaves to mourn her passing her sister-in-law Sara and brother Bill (Anna) and their families.
The funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. at the Ridgewood EMC Church with interment in the church cemetery.

Rey Friesen
(January 29, 1956 - August 3, 2005)
Rey was born on January 29, 1956 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach to Klaas and Sarah Friesen. Like his dad, he learned to work hard and enjoyed it. He also had a great love of sports and spending time in the outdoors. He accepted Jesus as his Saviour, and was later baptized at the age of 16.
On October 7, 1977, he married his high school sweetheart, Elaine. While living in Dugald, their twin boys, Kevin and Darryl, were born. Shortly after moving to the Blumenort area, they welcomed their daughter, Donna, to their family.
After a life-changing Bible study in 1988, Rey developed an even deeper love for Jesus and what He had done for him. Rey fulfilled a life-long dream with the purchase of a dairy farm near Vita in 1989. He enjoyed these years tremendously. During this time, Rey also became very involved in the church, and he took his responsibilities seriously.
In 1998, Rey and his family moved to a beef ranch in Lonesand, and shortly after, Steph and Nina came to join the family. Rey and his son, Kevin, operated a manure hauling business together for 5 years. They enjoyed working together while getting to know many of their neighbours, and Rey loved visiting them for coffee during his spare time. He was genuinely happy when good things happened to others and sad when people were going through hard times. He didn't mind if someone else received credit for something he had done. He believed in doing a good job at whatever he did.
In 2002, Rey received radiation treatment for a tumor on his spine and for bone marrow cancer. Rey, Elaine and their family were grateful to God for healing him, and giving him 3 more years of relatively good health. In the middle of June 2005, Rey's cancer returned. He started treatment on June 30. On July 12, he was taken by ambulance to Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, and then transferred to St. Boniface Hospital. After spending one week in intensive care, he was transferred to the cancer ward. On August 3 at 10:12 p.m., Rey died very peacefully and went to be with Jesus in his heavenly home. He leaves many good memories, and will be missed incredibly much.
Left behind for now are his beloved wife and best friend, Elaine; his much loved children and grandchildren, Kevin and Denise (Scotty and Joel), Darryl and Terrilee, Donna and Andy Wiebe (Brooklyn), Stephanie and Melina; his mother Sarah; his parents-in-law Emil and Tina Reimer; one brother, five sisters, seven brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, and their families. He was predeceased by his father, Klaas.
The family would like to sincerely thank the Vita and Steinbach EMS teams, all of the doctors and nurses who took care of him, and everyone who has prayed and shown their love and support. We especially thank God for making Himself real to us during this time.

ADELINE KROEKER
May 22, 1913 to Aug. 14, 2005
After a short stay at the Bethesda Hospital, our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Adeline Kroeker of Steinbach, Man., passed away peacefully at the age of 92.
She was predeceased by her husband John T. in 1996 and her parents, John and Katherine Giesbrecht.
She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her son Warren (Mary); daughters, Karen (Burton) Loewen and Joanne (Gordon) Wallace. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, Kelly (Cameron) Cooper, Catherine (Edward) Klassen, Marcia (Doug) Giesbrecht, James and Angela Kroeker, John and Kim Loewen, Mark and Dana Loewen, Sarah (Sheldon) Neufeld, Grant Wallace and Jonathan Wallace; great-grandchildren, Maxine and Zoe Cooper, Talia and Adam Klassen, Jesse, Timaya and Shandy Loewen, Alexandra and Miles Loewen and Johanna Adeline Neufeld. She is also survived by her brother Alvin (Irene) Giesbrecht and sister Marlene (Ralph) Guenther.
Mother lived a full life, influencing all who knew her with her caring and mentoring ways. Her greatest enjoyment came from her family and friends, her garden and traveling with Dad. She was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Mennonite Church.
The family wishes to thank Mom's attentive and caring homecare staff at Woodhaven, the nurse and doctors at the hospital, as well as all the others who have helped us during this time of sorrow.
Viewing will be held Thursday, Aug. 18, 7 p.m., with a devotional at 7:30 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach. The funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 19, 10:30 a.m., at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, 422 Main St., Steinbach, Man.

JEANIE WHITE (nee fraser)
Aug. 15, Jeanie passed away at the Ste. Anne Hospital at the age of 83 years.
A service will be held Friday, Aug. 19, 11 a.m., at the Steinbach Funeral Home.
Jeanie was predeceased by her husband Wilfred in July of 2004. She is survived by her son Ross (Diana); daughter Cathy (Albert); grandchildren, Colleen, Albert Jr., and Sven.

LEONARD THOMPSON
March 26, 1914 — Aug. 11, 2005
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Leonard Thompson, peacefully at his home at Bethesda Place, Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, with his family by his side, at the age of 91.
He leaves to mourn, one son, Melvin (Shirley) Thompson of Atikokan, Ont.; one daughter, Joan (Ray) Schultz of Winnipeg, Man.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Ruthie (Don) Sisk of Freeland, Washington.
He was predeceased by his wife Ida in 1991, whom he lovingly cared for, for 13 years, while she resided in the Personal Care Home.
Leonard married Ida Krentz Oct. 23, 1936. They made their first home in Elm Creek, Man., then moved to the Steinbach, Man. area. Leonard worked for the R.M. of Hanover for 36 years, operating the grader and snowplow. Leonard also enjoyed building in his workshop, making clocks and gardening.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 15, 2 p.m., at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 465 Henry Street, Steinbach, with Pastor Al Maier officiating. Viewing was held Sunday, Aug. 14, 7-8 p.m., at the Steinbach Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
The family wishes to express a very special and sincere thanks for the care he received from the nurses and doctors at the Bethesda Place.
Now you may go dance with Grandma in Heaven like you have wanted to for almost 30 years. Go to a place where there is no pain and suffering. You will take a small piece of everyone you have touched with you.

SARAH THIESSEN (FRIESSEN)

Mother, Sister, Special Aunt, Friend to all
Sarah's soul has left us for her home in Heaven to be with her Lord Jesus Christ. She passed away peacefully at the Bethesda Hospital after an ongoing fight with cancer. Her cheerful smile and encouragement will be missed by all of us who were privileged to meet her.
She is predeceased by parents: John E. Friessen, Gertruda A.K. (Plett); brothers: Abram, John, Cornelius, Peter, Klaas, Diedrich; sisters: Maria, Gertruda, Tina; husband John; sons: Leroy, Aylie (Peter).
She is survived by brothers: Henry, Jac; sister Helen; sons: Rick, Robert (Deborah); daughter Rachel (Wayne); daughter-in-law Marilyn; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Thursday, Aug. 18 from 7 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a short service. Funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. Both services will be held at the Christian Fellowship Church, 417 Hanover Street in Steinbach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian Fellowship Church benevolent fund in Sarah's memory.
