REV. ALFRED BARKMAN
Rev. Alfred Penner Barkman of Steinbach, Man. was born Feb. 26, 1915 to John J. and Anna Barkman of Ste. Anne, Man. He passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2005 at Maplewood Manor at the age of 90 years.
In his youth Dad accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Steinbach on Dec. 3, 1935 by Min. J.A Koehn. He remained true and faithful to his vows. July 7, 1946 Dad was united in marriage to Evelyn Penner, sharing 47 years together.
Dad was ordained into the ministry Dec. 12, 1950 by Min. Ruben Koehn, and served faithfully until his retirement. Mom and Dad sold the farm on Twin Creek Road in the year of 1988 and bought a house in Steinbach on Rosewood Drive. Our mother passed away Feb. 18, 1994, leaving Dad very lonely.
Dad remarried July 7, 1995 to Elizabeth Penner at Greenland, Man. June 22, 2001, Dad moved from his house in town to Maplewood Manor in Steinbach.
Dad leaves to mourn his passing, his caring wife Elizabeth; two sons and two daughters: Les of Minneapolis, USA and daughter-in-law Margaret of Selkirk, Man., Sandee (Bill) Friesen of New Bothwell, Man., Allan (Barb) of Steinbach, Lori (Dean) Plett of Giroux, Man.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters and four stepsons and their families; two brothers, Martin (Selma) of Steinbach and Stan (Alice) of Grandview, Man.; one sister, Mary and (Stan) Giesbrecht of Penticton, B.C., and many near and dear ones.
Dad was predeceased by his first wife Evelyn, and one daughter in infancy, his parents, one brother Ed and sister-in-law Rosella.
Dad is now resting; his heavy burdens are over. He beckons us to follow him to yonder heaven's shore. His parting wish is for the family to remain courageous and faithful to God.
We as a family would like to thank Elizabeth and her family for the love and care they gave Dad in the last 10 years. The family would also like to thank the Maplewood Manor staff and Dr. Dan Ilchyna for their excellent care and support while Dad was living there.
There is public viewing at Birchwood Funeral Chapel Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005. The funeral service will be held Thursday, Dec. 22, 2 p.m., at Church of God in Christ, Mennonite of Steinbach, with Rev. Ralph Toews officiating. Interment at Steinbach Heritage Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Michael Barkman, Chris Friesen, Jason Friesen, Shawn Toews, Galen Dueck and Roger Penner. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Candace, Derek and Mitchel Plett, Samantha, Tony and Christian Barkman, Marc and Chaylene Barkman, Kevin Friesen, his great-grandchildren and the Ministerial Staff of the Church.

KENNETH JOSEPH MAKI
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ken Maki, beloved husband of Lucille. He was born Jan 1, 1943 and passed away peacefully at his residence in Friedensfeld, Man., Dec 17, 2005. His memory will be forever cherished and he will be lovingly and deeply missed by family and friends: his wife Lucille; son Larry of Nanaimo, B.C., grandchildren Kristy and Kenny; daughter-in-law Frieda, grandchildren Mikaela and Emily of Steinbach, Man.; daughter Cindy and family of Alberta; as well as brothers, Don, Chico and Bob of Ontario. He was predeceased by his parents, Anselmi and Jeanne; beloved son Dean; one son in infancy; and brothers, Wayne and Phillip.
Ken grew up in Sault St. Marie, Ont. with his parents and five brothers. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling. He was a pilot in Northern Manitoba for many years. He loved it dearly. He met and married his loving wife Lucille in Winnipeg, Man., while working as a mechanic. Shortly after he moved his family to Friedensfeld, where he had a close relationship with his father-in-law William Oswald. He worked as a carpenter; very talented but had to stop due to health reasons. Visits from his grandchildren were very special. He was happy with all of their accomplishments.
Special thank-you to our friends who have helped us out over the years. Thanks also to our family doctor, Dr. Ilchyna, and Rev. Maier for visiting us.
The funeral service will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St., Steinbach, Man., Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2 p.m., with viewing prior to the service. Interment at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
I will not be far away, for life goes on.

ELISABETH KETTLER ENNS
Elisabeth Kettler Enns of Steinbach, Man. passed away accidentally near Steinbach, Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005 at the age of 21.
Elisabeth was born in Russia and moved with her family first to Germany in 1987 and then to Canada in 1998. She was currently employed at Rest Haven Nursing Home. Peter and Elisabeth were married Dec. 3, 2005.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Enns; her parents, Peter and Sina Kettler; three brothers, Andreas, Klaus and Viktor; six sisters, Natascha, Marianna, Helene, Regina, Ester and Christine, and their families.
The funeral service was held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, Friday, Dec. 30, with interment at Heritage Cemetery.

RONALD BRUCE FRIESEN
Peacefully, Jan. 3, 2006 Ron passed away at Bethesda Hospital at the age of 47 years. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Sally (Desrochers); his son Justin; and sisters and brothers: Luella Friesen, Diana Bergen (Henry), Vyola Kehler (Dan), Brian Friesen (Brenda), Rick Friesen (Sherrie), Sheila Friesen; and stepfamily: Anne Friesen, Nettie Penner, Tony Penner (Valerie), and Ruth Harder (Marvin).
He is predeceased by his parents, Abe S. and Amanda Friesen; and stepbrother Menno Penner.
Ron loved his family and friends and being around people. He loved life and the challenges it brought. Before his illness began, he often exhausted others with his energy. His first love was his family and being involved in his son's activities and sports. He enjoyed hockey, soccer, football, hunting, fishing, camping, and taking pictures. Ron especially loved to tease and joke around.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Bethesda Hospital and Health Sciences for their kindness and care, and also the many friends and relatives who stayed by our side during these difficult times.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 6, 2006 at Grace Mennonite Church, 430 3rd St., Steinbach, Man., with Father Leo Couture presiding. Viewing will be held prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. Interment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Justin's trust fund at the Steinbach Credit Union, or to Bethesda Palliative Care or Cancer Care.

MARTIN GINTER
This is a brief trip report on Martin's journey through life. Martin was born in Rosenthal, Chaco, Paraguay, Sept. 19, 1954, to Jacob and Maria Ginter. Martin spent his early years in Paraguay before immigrating to Canada with his family on July 26, 1969. Martin was baptized June 2, 1974. June 23, Martin married Marie Hiebert and together they raised two sons, Dave and Steve.
Just north of San Antonio, Florida on Dec. 21, 2005, Martin received his final dispatch ushering him into the presence of his Lord and Savior. Left behind for now are his beloved wife and best friend Marie; his much loved children and grandchildren, Dave and Shelley (David, Kathryn and Eryn), Steve and Jodi (Joseph); his mother Maria; two brothers, five sisters, eight brothers-in-law, seven sisters-in-law and their families. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews whom he cherished deeply. He was predeceased by his father Jacob, two brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren and his wife's parents. Martin will be forever remembered by his loving family and large circle of friends.
A celebration of Martin's life was held Friday, Dec. 30 at the Grunthal Bergthaler Church, with interment at the Grunthal Cemetery.
Marie and family wish to express their appreciation and gratitude for all the prayers, words of encouragement, cards, and expressions of sympathy received from family and friends.

JACOB HEIDE FRIESEN
Jacob H. Friesen of Steinbach, Man. passed away peacefully Dec. 26, 2005, 10:52 a.m., at Steinbach Bethesda Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer, at the age of 70.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Helen (nee Peters); sons, Jonny, Peter (Cheryl), David, Richard (Wanda); daughters, Martha (Boyd), Susanna (Barrie), Rosemarie; 24 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Herman, Peter, Abe, Isaac and Dave; and brother-in-law Cornelius Wolfe. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Margaret Friesen; brother John; and sisters, Gertrude and Anna.
Jacob was born Sept. 26, 1935 in Mexico and moved to Canada in 1957.
The funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 30 at the Reinland Mennonite Church. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
A special thank you to Anne Plett of Palliative Care, Dr. Duerksen, Jean (RN) and staff at the Bethesda Hospital.

BRUCE KLASSEN
Mr. Bruce Klassen, aged 28 years, of Tyndall, Man., dearly beloved husband of Nicole, passed away Dec. 24, 2005 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife Nicole; daughters, Abigail, 2 years, and Brook, 10 months.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 31, 2 p.m., at New Bothwell Sommerfeld Church, with Rev. Henry Schroeder officiating. Interment followed at the Church Cemetery.

MARY KLASSEN
Peacefully, Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at the age of 81, Mary passed away at the St. Pierre Hospital. She was born June 5, 1925.
She is survived by her husband, Jacob D. Klassen of Grunthal, Man.; daughter Dora Ann (Douglas) Stokes of Jonesboro, Louisiana; son Lloyd (Martha) of Lorette, Man.; grandchildren, Jocelyn and Sean Caskey of West Monroe, Louisiana, Juliet Stokes of Pensacola, Florida, Michael Klassen of Lorette, and Lana Klassen of Calgary, Alta.; two sisters, Anne (Kieth) Twiss of Wiarton, Ontario and Gertie Pries of Winnipeg.
Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 29 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with interment at Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the St. Pierre Hospital for the care and support during Mom's last days and to the Home Care staff at Menno apartments.

GABRIELLE MARGUERITE LAJEUNESSE (nee Dagenais)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Dec. 24, 2005, at Ste. Anne Hospital, at the age of 65 years. She leaves behind three sons, two daughters, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 29 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, followed by cremation.

GEORGE T. PENNER
Dec. 29, 2005, George T. Penner, beloved husband of Evelyn, died peacefully at the age of 84. He was the much loved father of Edith (Richard) Thiessen, Jean (Ken) Romaniuk, Carol (Harold) Janke, Connie (Wes) Memory, Irene (Pat) McDonald, and Ian (Debbie); grandfather of Scott, Jack (Joanne), Lisa, Marty (Amy), Alison (Taylor), David (Janie), Conrad (Frannie), Frank (Krystle) Rory, Laura, Joe, Caroline, Madyson, Mackenzie; and great-grandfather of Luke, Holly and Perry.
Owner of Penner Insurance and Travel for many years, he was a community minded individual, committed to education. He was the first chairperson of the newly formed Hanover School Division. He was the Sunday School Superintendent when his children were young. His charitable work was done anonymously. He had a charismatic personality, and cared about all God's children. He wanted everyone to know God's saving grace.
The funeral service was held Jan. 2, 2006 at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church in Steinbach, Man. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all the Home Care staff. Rhonda and Sheila put many smiles on George's face.

PETER FALK GOERTZEN
The family of Peter Falk Goertzen wishes to announce his peaceful passing in Steinbach, Man., at the Rest Haven Nursing Home, at the age of 93. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Joe of Akron, Ohio, daughter Helene of Winnipeg, Man., four grandchildren, their spouses, four great-grandchildren, one brother and one sister. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Helena in 1997, after 64 years of marriage; his five brothers and one sister.
Peter was born in 1912, in Morse, Sask., the eldest of nine children. His family moved to Mexico in 1923, where he met his wife and where both their children were born. They returned to Canada in 1952 and settled on a farm in Roseau River, Man. He also worked for the Manitoba Department of Highways for many years until his retirement in 1977. He especially treasured those years afterwards. Peter was known as an honest, hardworking man willing to take on any challenge that came his way and he loved to tell the stories of his many experiences.
A funeral service was held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, with interment at Sommerfeld Church Cemetery in Stuartburn, Man.

SADIE KORMAN
Sadie Korman passed away peacefully Dec. 30, 2005 at the Bethesda Hospital Palliative Care Unit, after a brief, courageous fight against stomach cancer. Born Stephania Sophie Ostrowski Feb. 12, 1929 in the Rural Municipality of Shell River, Man., Sadie was united in marriage to Peter Korman Oct. 9, 1965.
Sadie is survived by her husband Peter of Steinbach, Man. and son Jerry of Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition, Sadie is survived by sisters, Anne of Winnipeg, Man., Sylvia of Vancouver, B.C., Adeline of Appleton, WI, Rose (Jim Jones) of Santa Rosa, CA; and brother John of Gimli, Man. Sadie was predeceased by her parents, Peter Ostrowski and Annie Ostrowski (nee Kozak); twin infant brother William; brother Frank; sisters, Lena and Olga.
A private service and cremation have already taken place. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, or the Bethesda Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Steinbach, Man.

EDWARD ALEXANDER DANILCHUK
Peacefully, with his family by his side, Edward (59) passed away Jan. 15, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was very proud of his family and will be greatly missed by his wife of 30 years, Janet; and his daughters, Jennifer and Dana. He is also survived by his siblings: Jim of Carrick, Man., June of Long Beach, CA, Sandra, Debbie (Marc Gerardy) of Winnipeg, Man., and Wanda of Halifax, NS; special uncle to 12 nieces and nephews; brother-in-law to Della (Brian Bongaards, deceased), Flo (John Wagenaar) and Audrey (Ken Carson).
He was predeceased by his parents, Alex (1976) and Mary (2005), and his father- and mother-in-law, Henry and Effie Mendel.
Edward was born in Winnipeg, Oct. 13, 1946. He was raised in Carrick, where he attended Spurgrave School. He attended school in Piney, Man. and later in Winnipeg. After high school he spent a few years in Toronto and Fort Erie, Ont., before settling back in Winnipeg. He worked for CAE, the Royal Canadian Mint and for the last 22 years for Canada Post as a mobile letter carrier and mail service courier.
He had a passion for travel and loved family vacations — most notably cruises and numerous trips to Disney World. He had a special love for his golden retrievers, Brandon and Benjamin.
A private family service was held Thursday, Jan. 19, to celebrate his life. Donations may be made in Edward's name to CancerCare Manitoba.
