Nicolas Robert Edouard Olivier De Ruyver
La joie de vivre en silence
It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Nicolas De Ruyver at St. Boniface Hospital, on November 1, 2002, at the age of 15 years.
Left to grieve his loss are his parents Lionel and Simone De Ruyver (née Gobin) and his brother David; his grandmother, Line De Ruyver (née Sabary) from France; his grandparents, Placide and Lucienne Gobin (née Deleurme) of Saint Claude; uncle, Henri De Ruyver from France; uncles, Robert Gobin (Candace), and Normand Gobin of Saint Claude; aunt, Roseline Carter (Norman) and uncle, Roger Gobin of Winnipeg; cousins, Christopher and Rachel Carter, Ryan and Sarah Gobin. Great-grandparents, Joseph and Maria Deleurme of Notre Dame de Lourdes, many great-aunts and uncles, countless second cousins in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Saint Claude, Winnipeg, Montreal and France also survive him.
He was awaited in heaven by his grandfather, Raymond De Ruyver of France, great-grandparents, Alcide and Ida Gobin (née Ducré), great-grandmother, Renée Sabary (née Durand) of France and by uncle Gérald Gobin of Saint Claude.
Nicolas was born on July 9, 1987, a gentle, second child to Simone and Lionel. Although he was to face numerous health challenges in the years to come, the quality of life Nicolas experienced in his short fifteen years is a tribute to the love and support offered him by his loving parents, Simone and Lionel and his brother, David. Nicolas enjoyed traveling with his family to South America, the Caribbean, Montreal and many times to France. Fondest memories remain for Simone, Lionel and David of their latest trip to France this past summer with Nicolas. His vulnerability and unequalled innocence touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Prayers will be held at Adam's Funeral Home, Notre Dame de Lourdes on Thursday, November 7, 2002 at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Saint Claude Roman Catholic Church on Friday November 8, 2002 at 2 p.m., with Father Rodrigue Bouchard officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Gobin, Normand Gobin, Norman Carter, Christopher Carter, Fransis Desbiolles and David Anderson.
The family would like to thank the staff of St Boniface Emergency, the Winnipeg Paramedic Service, the Winnipeg Police Service, and special thanks to Dr. Booth and Dr. Muruve of Health Sciences Center.
