Augustine Encontre

Peacefully at the Notre Dame Foyer on Wednesday, August 2, 2006, Augustine Encontre of St. Lupicin, Manitoba passed away at the age of 88 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing 2 sisters: Berthe Baron of Langley, B.C. and Blandine (Carlo) D'Angiolo of Winnipeg; 2 brothers: François Encontre of St. Pierre and Martial Encontre of Notre Dame; 2 brothers-in-law Médard Rossier of Notre Dame and Gianni Favaro of Winnipeg; and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Azarie and Marie (nee Rousset); 5 sisters: Genevieve Rossier, Gertrude Favaro, Jeannette Encontre, Léa and Anna; and by 5 brothers: Cyprien, Marcel, Jean-Baptiste, Joseph and Bart.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Father Jean-Hubert Collet officiating. Interment to follow in the St. Lupicin Cemetery.

Roger Paulhus

Peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital on Thursday, July 27, 2006, Mr. Roger Paulhus of Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba passed away at the age of 69 years.

He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife Marie Louise (née Jubinville); three children: Denis Paulhus (Jennifer), Diane (Hubert) Cabernel, Jocelyne (Mike) Croteau; five grandchildren: Kimberly, Allison Cabernel, Christine, Anna and Sarah Paulhus. He also leaves to mourn one sister Evelyne (Gerry) VanDeynze, one brother André (Sandra) Paulhus and numerous uncles and aunts, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Emile in 1982 and by his mother Clara (née Muller) in 2005.

Family Prayers will be held at Adam's Funeral Home on Monday, July 31, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 11 a.m. with Father Gabriel Levesque officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.

Pierre Roland Bouchard

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Pierre passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 76 years.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 50 years Irene (née Fleury); daughter Claudette Ammeter (Dennis), grandchildren Peter, Susan, Laura and Simon (Melanie) and great-grandson Anthony; son Roland (Cindy), grandchildren Jennifer and Aaron; daughter Louise Despins (Todd), grandchildren Janessa and Jaclyn; son Marc (Cheryl), grandchildren Jocelyn and Kayla; son Gilbert (Linda); and son Allen (Julie) and grandson Matthew.

He also leaves to mourn four sisters Madeleine, Jeanne, Eva and Peggy; three brothers Lionel, Jules (Marg) and Joe (Rose). He will be lovingly remembered by his extended family and friends, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Aime and Germaine (née Bouvier); brothers Paul and Roger.

Pierre worked for the CNR, drove the school bus and farmed. He liked to take fresh air drives to check out the crops and go to the local coffee shop. He loved to spend time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Poseidon Care Centre on the 4th floor for all their care. Thank you to family and friends who took the time to visit Dad.

A Prayer Vigil will be held in the Elie Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. followed by Cremation. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 17, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Msgr. Maurice Comeault officiating. Interment in the Elie Parish Cemetery.

Ada Macaire (nee Porter)

Peacefully at the Portage General Hospital on Saturday, June 24, 2006, Mrs. Ada Macaire of Treherne, Manitoba passed away at the age of 85 years.

She leaves to mourn her beloved husband Emile Macaire and one son Richard all of Treherne; one sister Ella Lantz of Darlingford and her children: Ruth, Larry, Melvin and Robert; one brother Bill (Eleanor) Porter of Manitou and their children: Lianne and Jeff. Also her niece Cecile (Ron) Payette and their children: Darren (Bonnie) Van Den Bussche, Denis (Denise) Van Den Bussche, Rose-Anne (Wes) Friesen and Rose Lynn (Jules) Poiron and their families, and numerous cousins, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by twin infant daughters.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.

Robert Guy Gobin

Accidentally, near St. Leon, Manitoba on Thursday, June 8, 2006, Mr. Robert Gobin of St. Claude, Manitoba passed away at the age of 41 years.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife Candace (nee Silvey) and two children Ryan and Sarah all of St. Claude. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his parents Placide Gobin and Lucienne (née Deleurme); two brothers: Normand and Emma Gobin of St. Claude and Roger Gobin of Winnipeg; two sisters; Roseline and Norman Carter of Winnipeg and Simone and Lionel De Ruyver of Winnipeg; three nieces and nephews: Chris Carter, Rachel Carter (Russell) and David De Ruyver (Michelle) and his grandmother Maria Deleurme (née Robitaille). He was predeceased by one brother Gerald Gobin and by one nephew Nicolas De Ruyver.

Robert was born in St. Claude and received his education at St. Claude School Complex. He married Candace Silvey of Portage la Prairie in 1989. Robert and Candace bought their own farm in 1989. The couple welcomed into their home their first child, a boy, Ryan in 1992, followed by their daughter Sarah in 1994. They raised beef cattle until 1999 and then moved to their current farm in 1999, where they raised hogs. Robert thoroughly enjoyed his new business of used auto parts and scrap metal, which he started in 2005. Robert enjoyed taking Taekwondo classes with his children, coffee with friends and family and never passed on the opportunity to have a good laugh.

Prayers will be held at Adam's Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Mgr Roger Bazin officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.

Marcel Weicker

Peacefully at the Notre Dame Foyer on Friday, June 2, 2006, we announce the passing of Marcel Weicker at the age of 90 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Adrienne Eyjolfson and Jeannine (Raymond) Tinguely, one brother Denis (Beatrice) Weicker and by numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Jean-Baptiste and Augustine (née Debreuil), one brother Remi and by two sisters, Berthe and Claire.

Marcel was proprietor of the Weicker's Café and the town's barber until his retirement. He was past president of the Club D'age D'or and sang in the Church Choir. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Paul Tinguely officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.

Marguerite Gobin (nee Ricard)

Peacefully at the Langley Memorial Care Home on Sunday, May 14, 2006, Mrs. Marguerite Gobin formerly of St. Claude, Manitoba passed away at the age of 84 years.

She leaves to mourn her passing six children: Norbert, Gilles, Jeannette, Clement, Beatrice and Marcel; 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; also two brothers Joseph and Roland Ricard; and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services and cremation were held in Langley, B.C. Memorial Services will be held at the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, June 3, 2006 at 2 p.m. Interment in the St. Claude Parish Cemetery. A time of fellowship will follow at the St. Claude Recreation Centre.

Edward Walker

At his residence on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, Edward Walker of the Swan Lake First Nation passed away at the age of 45 years.

Edward leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his mother, Mary; sisters, Alice, Alvina (Dennis), Florence (Kelly), Kathy, Judy (James), Carolyn, Shelley (Kevin); brothers, Tom (Linda), Brian (Angie); numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Predeceased by his father, Thomas Walker Sr.; brother, Tony; sister, Agnes; grandparents, Frank and Maggie Walker, and Jim and Maizie French.

Edward was born and raised in Glenboro, Manitoba. Following his father's passing, the family relocated to Swan Lake First Nation. It was during this time in his young life that he was one of eight children apprehended from the French family. The Lipscomb family from Bloomington, Indiana later adopted Edward and his brother Tom. While in the USA, he graduated from Edgewood High School and later trained to become a certified welder.

During the early 80's, Edward returned home and reunited with his birth family. It was on Swan Lake First Nation that he spent the remaining years of his life. The family remembers him as enjoying life to the fullest and always willing to help those in need. He showed great devotion and caring towards his nieces and nephews and developed a special relationship with Terrence and Caitlin. He enjoyed the many family gatherings during Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and birthdays. He was an avid sports fan and could be found watching the finals in basketball, baseball, football and hockey.

A Traditional Wake Service will be held in the Swan Lake First Nation Community Hall on Monday, May 29, 2006 at 4 p.m. A Traditional Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment in the Indian Springs Cemetery.

Marie Rose Dion (née Bellec)
(1922-2006)

It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Rose Dion at the age of 84 years. Marie's journey ended peacefully on the family farm that she cherished. She is predeceased by her husband Georges in 1977.

She will be sadly missed by her children Odette (Paul) Novog, Raymond (Doreen), Lionel (Nicole), Denis (Pauline); her sisters, Louise Magne, Cécile Bellec and Therèse Rocan; sister's-in-law and several nieces and nephews; her grandchildren, Bryan (Yvonne), Melissa (Eric), Lianne, Nathalie (Norman), Joël, Dominic, Sylvie, André and Rachelle; and great-granddaughter's, Natasha, Caitlyn and Kaliyah.

Marie is also predeceased by her parents, Mathurin Bellec and Marie Le Frapper; her sisters, Valentine, Emily, Sr. Hélène, Germaine and Agnès.

Mom was born on February 11, 1922 in St-Claude, MB. She married Georges Albert Dion on April 7, 1945. They farmed and raised their family on her parent's homestead. She was a devoted community volunteer in many areas, as well as a member of " Les Filles d'Isabelle". In her early retirement, she enjoyed knitting blankets for her grandchildren. She was also an avid reader and her garden was also a great source of pride. Mom was passionate about hockey. She followed her children and grandchildren closely, not missing a game, which earned her the hockey grandma title. She was an excellent bread-maker and was known to all as the #1 coffee maker at numerous functions.

A special thank-you to all the health care providers for the thoughtfulness and compassion Mom received.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Friday, May 26, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Recitation of the Rosary and a Video Tribute at 1:30. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, St-Claude Health Center or a charity of one's choice.

Lorette B. DeRoo (Leduc)

On Friday, May 5th, 2006 at Lorne Memorial Hospital in Swan Lake, Man. Lorette DeRoo, nee Leduc passed away. She is survived by the two sons Ron and wife Raquel and Emile, and granddaughters Amanda, Angelica, and Lola and her husband Andrew Crane all of San Antonio, Texas, USA, and her sister Lorraine Poitras, nee Leduc; her sister-in-law Lucille Leduc, nee Lavoie, nieces Anita and her husband Mark Labossiere, Claudette and her husband Craig Orlando, and nephew Raymond and his wife Robin Leduc all of California, USA, and niece Loretta and her husband Frank Ogg of Oregon, USA, as well as her in-laws Richard, Mary, Martha and Bernadette, and Denise Moreau; in addition to numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers and her husband Joseph J. DeRoo

Prayers will be held on Thursday, May 11 at 8:00 pm. at the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Swan Lake, followed by Funeral Mass on Friday, May 12, at 2 pm. Interment will follow at the Swan Lake Catholic Parish Cemetery.

Annette De Maré (nee Labossière)

Peacefully at the Lorne Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, Mrs. Annette De Maré of Somerset, Manitoba passed away at the age of 68 years.

She leaves to mourn her beloved husband, Alfred De Maré, and five children, Monique (Emile Grenier) of Altamont, Roger (Sandra) of Edmonton, Lauraine (Marcel Bérard) of Somerset, Diane (Denis Savoie) of Winnipeg, and Daniel of Somerset; and three grandchildren: Tiffany, Kirstyn and Zoé. She also leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Anysie, sisters, Michelle (Norman Chartier), Diane all of Winnipeg, and Dolly Dennis of Rosser; and one brother, Roger (Lorraine) of Winnipeg and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Roger, and by one infant sister, Monique.

Mom spent her married life on the farm, enjoying the privacy of the homestead. She was known for her heartwarming meals and creative abilities. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family and indulged in hours of reading. Mom was very generous and considerate of others, values which she instilled in us. A kind deed in word or gesture was the order of the day.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Notre Dame de la Nativité Catholic Church in Somerset, Manitoba on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Recitation of the Rosary at 1:30 p.m.

Denis Joseph Philippe Gagnon

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Denis Joseph Philippe Gagnon, at Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg, Monday May 1st 2006, of lung cancer at 68 years old.

He was predeceased by his parents, Albert & Beatrice, his brother Andre and his sister Monique.

He leaves to mourn, his wife Barbara, daughter Denise LaRue (Tom) of Winnipeg, daughter Sandi Chesley of Duncan BC, daughter Robin Hoban of Grande Prairie AB, son Mark of Burnaby BC, and his grandchildren Elizabeth, Sarah, Jennifer, Britnee, Michael and Courtney. His brothers Raymond (Denise), Pierre (Giselle) and Louis (Denise), sister-in-law Nicole Gagnon, brother-in-law Gilles Desrochers, brother-in-law Gary Roberts (Avril), many nieces and nephews, and good friends Bob Whitechurch and Bill Fitzgerald.

Denis was born September 11, 1937 in Fortierville Quebec. He joined the Canadian Army, and was part of the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineering group. Denis served a year of peace keeping in Egypt, and was stationed at several army bases in Canada. He married Barbara Roberts in 1961 in London Ontario. After leaving the army, Denis opened up his own garage in North Bay Ontario. The family then moved to Winnipeg, and after living there for a number of years, Denis and Barb moved to their hobby farm just north of Elie Manitoba. Denis was a heavy-duty vehicle technician his whole working life.

Denis was proud to be a Knights of Columbus member with the Catholic Church both in Winnipeg, and in Elie where he was the financial secretary for many years. Denis was interested in computers, accounting, and photography.

Mass of the Christian Burial was held at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Elie, on Friday, May 5, 2006 at 11:00 a.m.
