Katherine Wiens
1942 - 2004
Katherine Wiens, 61, of Steinbach passed away at St. Boniface Hospital early Monday morning, February 2, 2004.
She was predeceased by two sons Frank and Eldon and is survived by her husband Eldon and son Mark. She is also survived by five brothers Jake (Katy), Ike (Susan), Peter, Abe (Suzanne) and Dave and two sisters Annie and Betty (Wally). She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, February 5, 7 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church, on Friday, February 6 at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.

Susan Wiebe
1922 - 2004
Susan Wiebe passed away peacefully at Rest Haven Nursing Home on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the age of 81.
Mom was baptized on the confession of her faith on June 14, 1943. October 14, 1943 she married John R. Wiebe. After they had lived at several different locations they decided to settle in Steinbach. Mom worked at Bethesda Hospital for 20 years. When she retired she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and reading. These were her best times and she enjoyed this until her Alzheimer’s no longer allowed her to do so.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband John, daughter Irma (Henry) Friesen, son Rick (Phyllis) and their children Roxane (Guy) Dowhy, Tara (fiancé Gus Durksen), Dale, Jolene and Daryl. She is also survived by brothers Peter (Eva), Ed (Agatha), Henry (Margaret), George (Linda), Abe (Verda), Ben (Ann) and sisters Anna (Bill) Friesen, Sarah Zacharias and Martha (Dave) Doerksen; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her parents Peter and Anna Toews, sister Agatha in infancy, brother Jake, brother-in-law Erdman Zacharias and sister-in-law Ruth Toews.
Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Sunday, February 8 at 7 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Monday, February 9, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Len Sawatzky officiating. Interment at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach.
Marion (nee Barkman) MacDonald
1939 – 2003
Marion (Barkman) MacDonald, while with her family, passed away peacefully at the Bethesda Hospital on June 5, 2003.
Marion’s parents were Jacob and Minna Barkman. Left to cherish her memory are husband Clarence and four sons John (Angela), Larry, Dan and Cliff; grandchildren Mirinah, Colton and Leanne; great grandchildren Gavin and Damien. She will also be missed by her sisters, brothers, in-laws and many other relatives and friends.
Marion was born in Steinbach on March 15, 1939 and grew up on McKenzie Street in South Steinbach. She was married to Clarence on September 15, 1956 and after living in various towns throughout Manitoba, settled back in Steinbach in 1966 where she remained.
Marion enjoyed reading, flower gardening, garage sales and visiting family and friends. Of special note are the countless number of babies who, over the years rolled over for the first time on one of her embroidered baby blankets. She touched many lives with her warm and caring personality and will endure in many hearts.
The funeral service will be held Monday, June 9, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grace Mennonite Church, Steinbach, MB. Interment in Heritage Cemetery
The family appreciates all those who helped during our time of sorrow.
Abram H. Neufeld
1916-2003
Peacefully on June 9, 2003, Abe Hiebert Neufeld passed away at Bethesda Hospital. He was born on June 17, 1916 and was one week away from his 87th birthday.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret, and children Erna Hiebert, Harry (Shirley) Jake (Anne Marie), Dennis (Myrna), Shirley (Ernie) Poetker, Peter (Joy), John (Sandra), Doreen (Ken) Penner, and Elaine (Rick) Savoie . He will also be dearly missed by his 28 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
He also leaves to mourn his passing, sisters Helen (Abe) Wiebe, Mary (Dick) Blatz, and brothers Ed, Jake (Margaret) and Pete (Tina); sister in law Jessie Neufeld, and their families; brother-in-law Henry (Alvira) Funk, sisters-in-law Helen Hiebert and Susie Funk of Paraguay, Mary Adamyk and Anne Funk.
He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother in infancy, son-in-law Dick, two brothers John (Susie) and Henry and sister Katherina.
Abe married Margaret Funk of Chortitz on November 8, 1939. They began farming north of Mitchell in 1941. In 1974 they moved off the farm to a new house they built. They spent their retirement enjoying hobbies and taking trips. In 2000 they moved to Steinbach.
Visitation will take place Thursday, June 12th from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with a program to follow. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 13th, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at Randolph Cemetery.
Should friends so desire, donations may be made to Bethesda Hospital Foundation, Box 939, Steinbach, MB R0A 2A0 towards Palliative Care Furnishing.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. Kaethler and nurses at Bethesda Hospital.
Daniel Maurice Joseph Dumont “Oscar”
May 3, 1962 – June 10, 2003
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Daniel Dumont on Tuesday, June 10, 2003. He was predeceased by his father Arthur Dumont on December 10, 1990. He will be greatly missed by his wife Candace and his children Trevor (17), Danica (11), and Brittany (8). He also leave to mourn his passing his mother Marielle, eight brothers: Marcel (Louise), Claude (Janice), Jean Paul (Lynda ), Léo (Betty), Gerry (Gerda), Alain (Paula), Patrick (Doris), René; four sisters: Ginette (Jean-LucBoulloigne), Lise (Richard Jarvis), Michelle (Art Goossen), Susan (Dennis Ste. Marie); his in-laws Paul and Marg Gauthier and brothers-in-law Adam and Brad; 11 nieces, 18 nephews, and numerous relatives and friends.
Daniel aka Oscar was a fun loving person, who never took life too seriously. His love of art and nature was well known to everyone. Daniel lived life to the fullest and was ready for any adventure that came his way.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the children’s trust fund at Scotia Bank, Dakota and Warde, Winnipeg.
Thank you to all the friends and family for all the support whether it was food or condolences.
Viewing will be Friday, June 13, 2003 from 7 to 8:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach, and at the church prior to the service. The Funeral Service will be held at the Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, June 14 at 2:00 p.m.

TIENA ELSIE BERGEN
1922 – 2003
A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, June 12, holding daughter Delores’s hand. She was born April 13, 1922 to Henry P. and Anna Bergen at Lowe Farm, MB.
Tiena was a very gentle, kind, quiet lady who, right to the end wanted the best for everyone. She tried to do things even though paralyzed for almost 15 years and totally confined to her chair. She was always willing to give advice and help to daughter Delores, who took such good care of her for the 15 years of confinement.
We will miss her ready smile, her sparkling blue eyes and her witness.
Tiena was survived by three children whom she loved dearly: Delores of Steinbach, Phyllis (Ray) Krentz of Thompson, and Tracy Harder of Ontario. She is also survived by one brother John (Leona) of BC.
She was predeceased by her husband Dan Harder, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service was held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Sunday, June 15, 2003 with Pastor John Neufeld officiating. Burial at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB
Thanks to the home care staff, the nurse, Dr. Duerksen, Pastor John, and all her friends who helped in making Tiena’s home going a little easier.
Rest in peace, Mom.

JOHN RETTALER
1912 – 2003
John Rettaler, of Emerson, formerly of Dominion City and Winnipeg, passed away at the Emerson Health Centre on Saturday, June 14, 2003 at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife Rose, three daughters, two sons and their families. He was predeceased by one daughter.
The memorial service will be held at the Emerson Baptist Church on Thursday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. Ash interment at Green Ridge Cemetery.
If friends so desire donations may be made to Emerson Palliative Care.
