VICKERS: Frances Margaret Vickers of Fairview Home, Brandon, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the age of 100 years.
WOODS: Marjorie Ellis Woods passed away peacefully on October 24, 2006, at Rideau Park Personal Care Home, Brandon. Marjorie was born on January 18, 1916, in Miniota, Manitoba, youngest daughter of Wallace and Maud Berwick. She grew up in Miniota and took a business course in Winnipeg. She returned to Miniota, where she married William Peter Woods on October 22, 1941. They lived in Virden until 1944, when they returned to Miniota. Marjorie worked in the Miniota Municipality office from 1950 until 1961, when the family moved to Brandon. There, she worked for the federal government in the Food and Drug office until her retirement. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Bill, her sisters Doris and Frances Peel, and her brothers-in-law, Bill and Charlie Peel, Bob Woods and Doc McLenehan. She is survived by her daughters, Evelyn (Glen) Kidd and Patricia (John) Unrau; grandchildren Michael (Vickie) Kidd, Andrea (Philip) Poole, Ian Kidd, Joanne (Todd) Schmidt, Jennifer (Mark) Bonne and Ryan Unrau; great grandchildren, Charlotte and Eve Kidd, William and Graham Poole and Tyler Schmidt; her sisters-in-law, Dorothy McLenehan and Ruth Woods, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating. Interment will follow in Miniota Cemetery. Sincere thanks to the neighbors on Clement Drive and the staff at Rideau Park. Flowers respectfully declined. WEIMER: Margaret Rose Weimer passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, October 23, 2006. Margaret was born in Scott, Saskatchewan on November 18, 1922. In 1952, she moved to Virden, MB where she resided until 1954, when she moved to Pierson, MB for a few years. She then relocated back to Virden and finally moved to Brandon in 1966. During her lifetime, Margaret worked as a housewife and enjoyed selling Avon products. She is survived by her son Rodney Weimer of Parksville, B.C and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Thadeus (Ted). A memorial service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with Deacon John MacKenzie of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations, in memory of Margaret, may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB R7A 2W8.
WILSON: It is with great sadness and sorrow we announce that Ron Wilson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Tuesday, October 10, 2006. Ron was predeceased by his father, Purvis, mother, Mary and brothers, Jack and Albert. He was born on August 12, 1931 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where he was raised. Ron joined the Queens Own Rifles of Canada in 1953. He took his training at Ipperwash, Ontario. Many postings followed along with many long lasting friendships that were made through those years. Ron retired after 34 years of military service in Shilo, Manitoba and resided in Brandon, Manitoba. Ron enjoyed the simplest of life, never in a hurry, always waving to whomever he knew. Having coffee with the guys was one of his great joys after retirement. Ron started life with humble beginnings. He worked hard, was strong willed and shared his knowledge with many friends and family. Ron had a deep love for his wife and two children that was expressed more in action than by words, and he allowed us to make mistakes but was always there for support. His grandson, Evan and granddaughter, Leslie were a great source of enjoyment and gave Ron many happy moments. He leaves to mourn his wife, Betty, of 50 years; daughter Fern (Rick) and grandson Evan, Brandon, Manitoba; son Brian (Vivian) and granddaughter Leslie, Winnipeg, Manitoba; sister Fern, Lethbridge, Alberta; brother-in-law Leo (Terry) Wynyard, Saskatchewan; two nephews Darcy (Ricki), Lethbridge, Alberta and Brent (Chris), Red Deer, Alberta and many cousins. He will be missed dearly by all. A time of visitation will be held at the Brockie Donovan Funeral Chapel, 332-8th Street, Brandon on Monday, October 16, 2006 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Chapel on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Fr. Dominic Yuen of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, Brandon will officiate. All are welcome to attend. WILSON: Gladys Mary (née Connon), beloved wife of the Late William (Bill) Wilson, passed away peacefully at Fairview Personal Care Home on Monday, October 9, 2006. Gladys is survived by her children: Helen Pitt (Bill), Wilma Knutt (Ken), Ken Wilson and Ron Wilson (Vicky); eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Eileen Connon and Jean Connon and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill in 1985 and infant son, Douglas in 1949; brothers: James Mearns, Keith Connon and John Connon; sisters: Margaret Nadler, Alice Brandon, Primrose Durnin and Irene Wilkie. Gladys was born in Brandon to Helen and James Connon, on August 6, 1913 and lived her entire life in the Brandon area. She married Bill on September 24, 1938. Gladys worked at the Brandon General Hospital and Nurses’ Residence in the Housekeeping Department, for over 26 years. After retirement, Gladys enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Funeral service was held on Friday, October 13, 2006 at the Brockie Donovan Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Dale Woods officiating. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, 350 St. Mary Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3J2 or to a charity of choice. WORKMAN: Margaret Irene Frances Workman (née Huys), with her family at her side peacefully passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the age of 82 years. Margaret was the second daughter born to Henry and Sidonie Huys on the home farm near Deloraine. She received her education at Grove county school and at the age of fifteen, moved with her family to the Goodlands area. She attributed her strong work ethic to her early days of farm chores, working at a grocery store and helping with the family business in Deloraine. Margaret was employed with MTS as a telephone operator in Lyleton, Boissevain and then Brandon in the late 1940’s. One of her greatest achievements was becoming the first female supervisor for MTS. Margaret married Trevor Workman in 1955 and together they had one son, Wayne. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with Wayne, Tricia and her three grandchildren. Over the years she spent countless hours in public service and with various volunteer organizations. She served as a Brandon City Councilor for nine years and has been the local matriarch for the Liberal party. Margaret has been a mentor to other women who have followed in her professional and political footsteps. She has also been a member of the YWCA, the Catholic Women’s League, the Provincial Council of Women, the MS Society and the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum. Margaret was recognized and awarded the YWCA Women of Distinction Award (volunteer) and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. The kin-keeper of the family, Margaret maintained correspondence with many relatives in Belgium and enjoyed her trips to the Old Country. Even after her retirement in 1983, she remained active with volunteering, traveling, reading, needlepoint and even took on a part-time job in her late seventies. As busy as she was, she always had time for family and friends. Her gift for making people feel special came from her genuine interest in and concern for others. Her kindness, thoughtfulness and consideration will be remembered by people of all ages. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by son Wayne, daughter-in-law Tricia and grandchildren Michael (Crispin Butterfield), Amanda and Justin. Also by very special niece Kareen Rommelaere (Ralph Huechert), sisters Isa (Gilbert) Lesy, Harriet (Albert) Rommelaere and their families. By brother-in-law Malcolm (Dora) Workman and their family, niece Jane Steckler and nephew Robert (Joy) Hamilton and their families. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Trevor in 1984, parents, sister and brother-in-law Beryl (Peg) and Robert Hamilton. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church on October 11, 2006 with Father Barry Schoonbaert as Celebrant. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons; Michael and Justin Workman, nephews; Lloyd Lesy, Lorne and Jason Rommelaere, Robert Hamilton and Gerald and Allan Workman. Donations in memory of Margaret may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
WILLIAMSON: James Edwin (Jim), formerly of the Roseland District, beloved husband of Audrey and loving father of Debbie, Kim, Sheri and Wenda, passed away peacefully at Fairview Home on Wednesday, September 20, 2006.
WILSON: The family sadly announces the passing of Larry Dwayne Wilson, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at the age of 58 years. Employed as a journeyman plumber in Brandon and Shilo for 35 years, Larry took pride in his work and made many friends throughout the years. His passions were hunting and fishing – whether he came home empty-handed or not. It was always about the sport and enjoyment of nature. As a long time member of the A.N.A.F. Unit #10, Larry loved the camaraderie of the Shuffleboard League and Saturday afternoon cribbage. Larry was always a proud father and grandfather. Grandchildren, Sean and Cailey will cherish many memories of their "Papa". Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Fran; daughters Crystal (Bob) Davidson of St. Cloud, MN and Laura of Winnipeg, MB; grandchildren, Sean and Cailey Davidson; parents, Wilfred and Ethel; brother, Darryl (Marilyn), his children, Dustin (Tenille) and Chris; sister, Verna and son Danny; brother, Ron; sister-in-law, Marlane Wilson and her children, Corey and Christy (Darren) Burdeniuk; brother-in-law, Gordon Jamieson and his children, Pat, Cathy (Hal) and Mike; sister-in-law, Ruth Stewart and her children, Traci (Scott) and Jerry-John (Shannon) and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Larry was predeceased by an infant brother, Danny and older brother, Elmer. WEDGEWOOD: Helen Mary (née Ward), November 6, 1952 – September 14, 2007. With deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Helen on September 14, 2007. Helen was born in Saskatoon, SK and raised near Rivers, MB where she met and married her husband Doug in 1971 (October 9). They lived in Winnipeg where their daughter Jane was born in 1976. Helen, Doug and Jane moved from there to Dugald, MB where they owned and operated Dugald Convenience Store, before moving to Elie, MB where they ran Elie Grocery, before finally becoming owners of Sanford Lumber and Building Supplies in Sanford, MB. An avid reader, a fan of music, games and golf, Helen’s main focus was always her close friends and family. A second mom to many, Helen had an amazing ability to put people at ease and we often looked to her for advice and counsel. Always the voice of reason, Helen was our rock and our source of strength. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her husband Doug, daughter Jane Chartrand and son-in-law Keith, mother Dorrie and mother-in-law Margaret, brother Larry (Deb) and sisters Cathy (Howard), Dorothy (Andy), Eileen (Larry), brothers and sisters-in-law Bonnie, Betty (Terry), Jim (Michelle), Shirley (Bob), Steve, Roger, Frank (Tammy) and Margaret (Al), nieces and nephews Rob, Sheri, Christine, Jesse, Jim, Zeb, Steve, Dave, Melissa, Jennie, Angie, Kate, Kelly, Savannah, Rory and all of their extended families and many friends. Helen was predeceased by her father Arthur Ward, sister Beverly Lund (née Ward) and father-in-law Frank Wedgewood. A Memorial Service and gathering took place on Thursday, September 20, 2007. WOOLFORD: Terry Dale Woolford passed away suddenly at his home in Brandon on September 17, 2007 at the age of 44 years. Terry was born and raised in Swan River. He was a fisherman at heart and spent many early morning hours on the lake. Terry loved spending time with his son Jared and was always proud and supportive of all Jared’s accomplishments. Terry will be dearly missed by his wife Lorraine McLellan and son, Jared. He is survived by his father Basel Woolford of Swan River; sisters Lorraine (Roy), Barbara (Irvin), Delilah (Irv) and Vera; brothers Leonard (Pat) and Ken (Barb); sisters-in-law Mary (Ed), Myrna, Valerie (Kelly), Rhonda, and brothers-in-law Bernie (Jan), Allen (Celina), Wayne (Bev), Sam (Kim), Archie (Audrey), Colin, Gordon (Lou), Terry (Lorraine) and Ian as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Sadie Woolford. The Funeral Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Monday, September 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at the Birchwood Cemetery in Swan River at a later date. WOLSKI: Mrs. Nellie Wolski of Brandon, passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on Monday, July 16, 2007 at the age of 87 years. Nellie was born on January 25, 1920 in Vita, Manitoba. She grew up on a farm in the Vita area and also attended school there. Nellie met her husband, Bill, while working in Winnipeg. They would have been married for 63 years in September. When they were first married, they farmed north of Basswood, Manitoba. Both children, Don and Pat, were born during that time. They later moved to Brandon where Nellie worked at the Brandon Mental Hospital and Assiniboine Community College in the food services area. Nellie was known for her excellent cooking. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting, gardening and fishing. Nellie is survived by her son Don Wolski and wife Karen; daughter Pat Hillers and partner, Gary Lapinsky; grandchildren Devin Wolski, Melanie Ross and husband Ron, and Vernon Hillers and partner Kristin Smith; great grandchildren Beau Ross, Tucker Ross and Jaysin Hillers; sisters Ann Ricena and Kay Stecky and numerous nieces and nephews. Nellie was predeceased by her husband William, who died just two weeks before her, on July 1, 2007, also her parents Nick and Lena Lukianchuk; her brothers Matt and Fred Lukianchuk; her sisters Helen Bodnarchuk, Mary Kereliuk and Stella Krieger. A memorial service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on July 20, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Dominic Yuen of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment took place in Rosewood Memorial Gardens. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. If friends so wish, donations, in memory of Nellie, may be made to a charity of choice.
WRIGHT: Mabel Irene (Givens) passed away at her residence, Hillcrest Place, Brandon, on Sunday, July 8, 2007 at the age of 98 years. Mabel was born October 3, 1908 to Thomas and Helen Givens and was raised in the Orangeville, Manitoba district. In the late 20s, she moved to the Benito, Manitoba area where she worked for MTS. Here, she also met and married Harold E. Wright in 1935. They farmed for a short while in that area before moving to Brandon, Manitoba in 1940. Besides being a mother and homemaker, she became a busy volunteer around town. One of her greatest joys in her life was meeting with friends and residents of BMHC. She planned many picnics, outings and did baking for all of these occasions. She enjoyed the interaction with the staff and patients during the late 1950s and 1960s. She always enjoyed driving the "old ladies" for ice cream and coffee to Souris, Virden or just around Brandon. Most of the ladies were younger than Mabel! Mabel was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1986. She is survived by her son, Dwayne (Anne) of Brandon, grandson Edward (Iona) and great granddaughters Christine and Janet all of Winnipeg, plus a special nephew Roger Walters of Brandon. A memorial service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, July 13, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Orton Anderson officiating. Interment of the cremated remains will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. WOLSKI: Mr. William "Bill" Wolski of Brandon, beloved husband of Nellie, passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Bill was born on August 15, 1918 in Oakburn, MB. He grew up in the Basswood district where his parents farmed. Bill met his wife, Nellie, in Winnipeg while he was in the Army. They would have celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary in September. Bill received his education in the Basswood district. He was conscripted into the Army during WWII. At the end of the war, he farmed north of Basswood for 8 years, then worked as a carpenter for numerous construction companies in Brandon. From there, Bill worked for the Federal Government at Rivers Air Force Base as a Civilian Carpenter. When it closed, he worked at the Shilo Base until an on-the-job accident forced him to retire at the age of 58. Bill loved fishing, gardening and in later years, he enjoyed rug-hooking and word-search puzzles. Bill is survived by his wife Nellie; son Don Wolski and wife, Karen; daughter Pat Hillers and partner, Gary Lapinsky; grandchildren Devin Wolski, Melanie Ross and husband Ron, and Vernon Hillers; great-grandchildren Beau Ross, Tucker Ross and Jason Hillers; sisters Sophie Norosky, Rosie Krushelnisky; brother Tom Wolski and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, John and Frances; brothers Joe and Adam; sisters Martha, Ann and Caroline. A Memorial Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, July 6, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Dominic Yuen of St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church officiating. All in attendance were considered Honorary Pallbearers. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill may be made to a charity of choice.
WILSON: Wilfred Elmer, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, Ethel by his side, on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the age of 90 years. He was born the 5th child of Robert Nelson and Elizabeth on October 5, 1916 at Glenella, Manitoba. Wilfred received his schooling at Goodland School until he was 10 or 11 years old, at which time, he worked on the farm, hauling grain and helping with seeding and harvest. Attending school in the winter time, Wilfred got his grade 8, then started farming full time. In 1944, Wilfred married Ethel Gardiner of the same district. Together, they had four children: Elmer, Larry, Darryl and Danny, the youngest passing away in infancy. They later adopted Verna and Ron. The family moved to Brandon in 1956 when Wilfred was employed with C.P.R. for a year. He then worked for the City Works Department until he retired, after 25 years’ service, in 1981. After his family, Wilfred’s great love was hunting, a sport he continued until he was 85, when he shot his last "big buck", ending a hunting career which spanned 71 years. Wilfred is survived by Ethel, his wife of 63 years; grandson Danny who was raised like a son and who adored his grandpa, giving him such good care in his later years; son Darryl (Marilyn), Dustin (Tennelle), Faith, Payton, Clayton and Nathan and Christopher (Evanka); daughter Verna (Danny’s mom); son Ron; daughter-in-law Marlane, Corey and Christy (Darren) and Marley; daughter-in-law Fran, Crystal (Bob), Sean and Cailey and Laura. Wilfred is also survived by his brother Cecil (Jean) and sisters Ada, Margaret and Agnes (Lee), brother-in-law Jack (Freda) Gardiner and sisters-in-law Ada and Mildred as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His sons Elmer and Larry, his parents, brothers George and Nelson and sisters Violet, Verena, Helen and an infant sister predeceased Wilfred. A Celebration of Wilfred’s life was held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Pope officiating. A time of fellowship followed and interment took place at the Goodland Cemetery, Glenella. Pallbearers were grandsons, Corey, Dustin and Christopher, nephew Vic Thomson, brother Cecil and brother-in-law Jack Gardiner. In lieu of flowers, if friends wish, donations in Wilfred’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, #1, 613-10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G6.
WALKER: Robert Arnold Walker of Rivers, Manitoba, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on March 3, 2007 at the age of 81 years. Robert is survived by his sister Mary Graham of Sault Ste. Marie, ON; brother George Walker of North Bay, ON and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Frank and parents Mary and Frank. Funeral Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Rivers on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Dominic Yuen as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Rivers Cemetery.
