BEVERLY ANNE TAPHORN
Beverly was born December 12, 1951 in LeRoy, Saskatchewan. She fought a battle with cancer for many years. It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loved one; Friday, January 29, 2016 in the early hours of the morning.
Beverly grew up on the family farm near LeRoy. It was during those early days that she learned the value and importance of hard work, discipline, respect, perseverance, love of nature and animals as well as how to have fun. These characteristics would become part of her personality. Along with her love, guidance and pleasant disposition, this is the lasting memory she leaves to her family and friends.
Beverly attended grade one and two at Newnham School. This was a one room school house near the family farm eight miles northwest of LeRoy. Beverly always proudly proclaimed that she lived at the end of an era by going to school with horse and buggy. The school closed down after her second year. She then continued her education at LeRoy School, travelling by school bus.
After completing high school, Beverly worked for a brief time in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. She moved to Saskatoon in 1972. In 1974, Beverly moved to Winnipeg where she lived until her death. She was a very loyal and hard-working employee. She enjoyed working and made many friends through her employment with various companies. Beverly will be warmly remembered by her many friends and associates. In 1985, she purchased her house on Ashburn Street where she lived since. Her neighbourhood friends were her confidents and source of strength in good times and bad and Beverly was always there to help a friend in need. Her door was always open.
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Alice (nee Fouhse) Taphorn as well as her brother Lloyd.
Beverly will be forever loved and missed by her son Christopher (Tanya) and their children Shanti and Alyssa; Step-children, Daniel Toews (Brandi); Kelly Toews; Gary Parkes; and Michael Parkes. Beverly also leaves an empty spot in the lives of her sister, Lorraine Hawke (Stewart); her two brothers; Glenn (Suzanne) and Eldon (Trudy) and her sister in law Linda as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Beverly also leaves behind many close and special friends too numerous to mention.
A HUGE thank you to all of the Doctors, Nurses, Aides, Support Staff and the Palliative Care Team who have watched over and taken care of Beverly for the past 15 years. You are all fabulous, caring people.
A celebration of Beverly’s life will be held, Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2:00 at Mission Baptist Church, 771 Sargent Avenue. Arrangements by Wheeler Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.

Chad Henschel
August 11, 1970 to January 22, 2016. Chad passed away peacefully at home January 22nd, 2016
He is survived by his wife Tegan and son Garrett. He also leaves behind his mother MaryAnn (James) Cromwell, his father Ken (Marilyn), brother Cal (Deanna) niece Madison and nephew Joshua. Also survived by mother and father-in-law Ward & Arlene Garrett, sister-in-law Briana Garrett and niece Avyn.
Chad grew up in Transcona where he attended school, played sports, and met many of his lifelong friends, most of whom he remained close to till his passing. After graduating from Transcona Collegiate Institute in 1988, Chad used his many talents with a number of jobs which included improving his culinary skills at a local pizza spot to being the familiar face behind the bar at the Grain Exchange Curling Club. There Chad knew everyone's name and where he was known for his warm smile, keen sense of humour, and great Caesars. Not surprising, Chad would find many of his friends keeping him company at the end of the bar where lots of laughs and stories were exchanged.
Chad fulfilled many dreams. As a young man he flew to California with his friends to purchase a Porsche 944 which made him the envy of local car enthusiasts. He was also one of the partners of the Ammecii Clothing Company in the early 1990s when their products were found in stores across the country. He partook in a number of home renovations projects with his brother Cal and best friend Brent where they transformed many houses to the thrill and delight of the future homeowners. His last renovation effort was on his own home back in Transcona.
Ultimately Chad decided on a career in health care and after attending the University of Manitoba and earning his Bachelor of Nursing, he commenced his career in 2000. Chad always talked about wanting his career choice to allow him to travel so not surprising, his first job was in Churchill, MB. Despite being far from home, it was here he met the love of his life, Tegan and they began their life together. After Churchill he began a long career at HSC ER. Chad thrived in the chaos of emergency nursing and loved working at HSC. Chad enjoyed traveling and was able to combine nursing and travel. He lived in Maine, Las Vegas and South Dakota and travelled all over Canada and the US. Road trips were his favorite and many great memories were made while driving across the country.
By far Chad's proudest moment was the birth of their son. He loved being a father and was very close with Garrett who equally enjoyed spending time with his Dad and was a big help when Daddy was sick. Chad was a homebody and being with his family was his first priority.
Chad has requested that there be no funeral service. We would like to thank all the staff of the palliative care unit in St. Boniface, community palliative care nurse Richard, Dr. Kim Wiebe for her kindness and compassion, the staff of cancer care specifically clinic nurse Deb, Dr. Chowdhury, Dr. James Paul, Tache Pharmacy, and all the many friends and family who provided support, meals and childcare.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are welcome to make donations to the Winnipeg palliative care program or to the Garrett Henschel Trust, set up at all Casera Credit Union locations.
