Clifford Joseph Strong (Bing)

Clifford Joseph Strong (Bing) Passed away at the age of 84 years, on June 10, 2007 at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg, M.B. after a hard battle with pneumonia.
Dad was born February 5, 1923 in Amaranth, M.B. Amaranth was always home to dad and he lived there most of his life. He was affectionately known as Bing and spent almost everyday walking to town, visiting with every person he met while doing his errands.
Dad was a private in the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, who served overseas in England and Germany in WWII. When he returned home, he moved to Winnipeg where he first worked at Northern Lakes and later at Fresh Water Fisheries. He also was a long time commercial fisherman on Lake Manitoba, Lake Winnipeg and in Prince Rupert, B.C.
Even as a young child, dad loved the game of hockey. As he grew into a young lad he became a very talented hockey player, whose dreams of playing in the N.H.L. were dashed by a knee injury. But it never discouraged him from the love of the game, which he watched religiously.
He also loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time walking through the bush hunting deer and rabbits, or trapping for furs. His greatest hobby was gardening. With his green thumb he could make anything grow and we all enjoyed the many fruits of his labour.
While living in Winnipeg, dad met Theresa Wheeler and together they had a son Clifford in 1965 and a daughter Mary Ellen in 1967. He was also dad to his step children April, Richard, Randy, and Lisa.
Dad was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Ellen Strong, sister Kay Strong, and great nephew Jamie Desmarais.
