MARGARET "RUTH" SIMPSON Passed away peacefully July 26, 2001 in the presence of family at Willingdon Park Hospital. Ruth was born January 15, 1924 in Edmonton, AB. to Reginald "Stevie" and Irene Stevens, the family later moving to Calgary, Yorkton, SK. and finally to Winnipeg. There, as a young woman, Ruth worked for the Bank of Montreal in Winnipeg, later marrying Lloyd John Simpson in 1946. Lloyd and Ruth built their first home in Fort Garry and son Craig Cameron was born in 1961. Lloyd's business took the family to Edmonton in 1970, where Ruth worked part time in the Toronto Dominion Bank. After moving back to Winnipeg in 1976, Ruth became active in the Assiniboine Chapter Sweet Adelines, in East Kildonan and also started her own advertising sign business. In 1980 the family moved to Richmond, B.C where she carried on the sign business until she took a position as clerk in the A. Maxwell Evans Cancer Clinic. Retiring in 1989, she and Lloyd moved to Abbotsford. Ruth was predeceased by her husband in 1992, after which she enjoyed the association and friendship of Widows Helping Others and also the friendship of her neighbours. Ruth will always be remembered for her cheerfulness and positive attitude in the midst of numerous physical afflictions in her twilight years. Not the least of these was cancer, which she battled courageously with dignity and grace before succumbing. A loving mother and grandmother, Ruth will be mourned by son Craig; daughter-in-law Kathryn; and grandchildren Stacey Anne, Diana Marie and Scott Alan; brother B.C. "Mickey" Stevens and his wife Lillian of Victoria; sister Lorna Lorenze of Hanover, Ontario and of course numerous friends, associates and other relatives. You've been a good mom, Mom! In the Lord's eyes you were the "good and faithful servant" that we all should hope to be... Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 1, at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, B.C. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 1 at 1:00 p.m. from Central Heights Church, 1661 McCallum Road, Abbotsford, B.C. EILEEN EVELYN THORVALDSON (nee REID) After a lengthy illness, passed away on July 30, 2001 at Luther Home in Winnipeg at the age of 72. Eileen was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Thorbergur (Bob) Thorvaldson in 1991. She leaves to cherish her memory her five sons, Grant (Cathy), Drew and Paul of Winnipeg, and Derek (Debra) and Mark (Deborah) of British Columbia; as well as six grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her brother Russell (Nello) Reid of Balmoral. She was predeceased by brother Ken (Betty) Reid of Arborg, MB, and Grant (Agnes) Reid of Winnipeg. Eileen was born on January 15, 1929 in Arborg to William and Grace Reid. After attending school, she taught in Lundar and Teulon. Following her marriage she moved from Riverton to the Wolseley area of Winnipeg in 1956 to devote herself to raising her family. Eileen returned to school as a mature student at the University of Winnipeg. After attending classes, she found employment in the university library, retiring in 1993. Eileen's family wish to thank the Luther Home for their support and care. Throughout her illness Eileen remained a kind and caring person many will remember. A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, August 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society, 205 Edmonton St, Winnipeg, MB R3C 1R4. LILLIAN RUTH WEBER Ruth Weber, beloved wife of the late Joseph H. Weber, passed away peacefully at the Boundary Trails Health Center on Saturday, July 28, 2001. Born May 30, 1909, Ruth was the daughter of T.M. and Helen M. Hobkirk-Bradford. She was predeceased by her parents and also by her good friend and sister, Dorothy, in 1981. Ruth was also predeceased by her sister Helen and brother Kirk in infancy. On August 6, 1948, Ruth was united in marriage to Joe Weber, son of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Weber. They lived happily on the family farm north west of Morden until Joe passed away suddenly on September 5, 1988. Ruth took up residence in Morden in 1991 and subsequently moved to the Wellington Retirement Home in Winnipeg in 2000 where she remained until her passing. Left to mourn her passing are John P. and Clara Weber of Maple Ridge, BC, Charles and Bev Weber of Abbotsford, BC, Wilda Bradford-Brant of Calgary, AB, Raylene and John Eberl of Redvers, SK, and Doug and Colleen Brownridge of Arcola, SK; as well as many, many close friends. There will be a service of remembrance at Wiebe's Funeral Chapel in Morden at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2. Following the interment at Hillside Cemetery, there will be a luncheon in the reception area of the funeral chapel for family and friends. Seven honorary pallbearers were chosen from Ruth's many loyal friends, Phyllis Binda, Denise Steedsman, Dorothy Douglas, Dorothy McCulloch, Fenella Temmerman, Els Tessier, and Sylvia Mutcheson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Projects Fund at the Morden Friendship Center, 306 North Railway St., Morden, MB R6M 1S7. WILFRED EDWARD CARON It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden death of Wilfred Edward Caron on December 4, 2004 at his residence at the age of 64 years. Wilf was born on February 8, 1940. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Georgina (Georgie) Caron (nee Shystokowski); and sons, Bradley and Grant; his sisters, Jackie Kobernyk, Carla (Herb) Mason; nieces and nephews, Derek (Telayne) Kobernyk, Janice Simmons, Jaime (Cynthia) Delaney, Darcy (Sheila) Delaney, Jason Ficek, brother-in-law Gordon (Sheila) Shawn and their children Michael and Jody and many dear dear friends and relatives. He was predeceased Edgar and Marguerite Caron (nee Gauthier). A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, December 11 at 1:00 p.m. in the Thomson Funeral Home with Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Following the service a gathering of friends will take place also at the funeral home. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg R3L 0K6, the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd., R2L 1X3 or to a charity of ones choice.
