RUTH PERKINS Ruth Perkins passed away at the Riverdale Health Centre, Rivers, MB on Wednesday, August 18, 2004. The funeral service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, Rivers, on Saturday, August 21 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Paul Curtis will officiate. ELSIE ELIZABETH PIETRACCI (nee FARINA) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Elsie on August 17, 2004 after a lengthy illness. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Sandy, Janet, Carol and husband Tom; her grandchildren, James, Anthony, Matthew and Julia; sisters, Margaret and Dorothy; brothers, Walter and Jimmy; nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Catherine and brother, Morris. Elsie was born on June 23, 1932 in Zdoda, MB, and after spending her youth joyfully on the farm, she came to Winnipeg to finish her education. She married Joe in 1951, settled in North Kildonan and raised their daughters. Elsie enjoyed working with the public which led her to a career in the public service. She was a passionate traveller, gardener, artist, homemaker, super Mom and Grandma. She will be sadly missed, but her memory will continue in our hearts. The family would like to thank friend Jo-Anne and staff of the 5th Floor U2 at Seven Oaks Hospital. A Celebration of Elsie's life will be held on Saturday, August 21, at 11:00 a.m. (reception to follow) at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Prayers to be said Friday, August 20 at 7:00 p.m. also at Klassen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a memorial contribution may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., R3C 9Z9. CAROL IRIS SHEPHERD (COCHRANE) (nee McINNES) On August 16, 2004 Carol passed into the hands of her God after a brief illness. Her memory will be cherished by her husband David Shepherd; daughter Shauna and her husband Doug Lagimodiere; daughter Robyn and her husband Tom Fones; and her son James Cochrane. She was loved dearly by seven grandchildren, David, Victor, Alex, Matthew, Erin, Aimee and Maggie. She will also be remembered by her mother Myrtle McInnes and her siblings, Alan, Kerry (Joyce) and Kathy (Dave Friesen) and their children; as well as many friends. She was predeceased by her brother David (1981) and her father Alan McInnes (1992). Mom was born on November 15, 1944 in Winnipeg. She was raised and obtained her schooling in the West End. She married James Cochrane in 1964, raising their three children at home. She became well known in her role as a church secretary for both Charleswood United Church and more recently McClure United Church. She followed a strong interest and obtained her Certificate of Theology in 1993. Mom married David Shepherd in 1994 who gave her 10 wonderful years. He shared her love of travel, their cottage at Spruce Sands and time with their grandchildren. Cremation has occurred and a celebration of her life will take place on Monday, August 23 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with Rev. Hugo Unruh officiating. A reception to follow. Family gratefully decline flowers. Donations can be made to the church of your choice. JOHN F. A. SMAILES Peacefully on August 13, 2004 at the Health Sciences Centre with his family by his side, our family chain was broken and nothing will be the same. But as God calls us one by one, our chain will link again. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter Donna; his loving and devoted three grandsons, Tyler-Joann, Todd and Amanda, and Tadd and Lynn, and cherished three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Chelsey and Emilie. He leaves behind one sister Phyllis Wright of Calgary, and nieces and nephews in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Colorado. John was born on March 24, 1915 in Oak River, MB. He married Gladys Smailes Cockburn in Montreal in 1941 and moved to Forget, SK where he had his own hardware store and delivered bulk fuel. He later worked for Sears in Estevan, Weyburn and Yorkton. After moving to Winnipeg, he worked for McClouds and Gambles until retirement. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, with viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Dad will be laid to rest in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. He will take his place beside his wife (my mother) Gladys Smailes, who was taken from us in March 1999, whom he loved and missed dearly. "Together Forever" Pallbearers will be his three grandchildren, Tyler, Todd and Tadd, and Gordon Cockburn, Paul Catellier and Joel Philion. Thank you for the years you gave us, and the happy times we shared. We love you Dad, you will always be in our hearts. We will miss you dearly. Rest in peace. DOMINGA GAMBOA URRUTIA On Sunday, August 15, 2004, at 11:30 p.m., Dominga Gamboa Urrutia passed peacefully into the arms of the angels and to her heavenly home at 88 years of age. Dominga was born May 12, 1916, in Pampanga, Philippines, and immigrated to Canada in January, 1977. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, and sister. She is survived by her soul mate, Eustaquio Urrutia, who she has been married to since September 4, 1934. They were blessed for their 70 years of marriage while she was in the hospital. Along with her husband, she will be lovingly remembered by her 11 children, Laddy (Mary) Urrutia, Cresing (Eddie - deceased) Benavidez, Beth (Maure - deceased) Gulapa, Mario (Norma) Urrutia, Zeny (Tony) Magno, Romy (Hermie) Urrutia, Jesse (Ila) Urrutia, Rey (Linda) Urrutia, Eddie (Loida) Urrutia, Lita (Robert) Trinidad, Willie (Nica) Urrutia; 35 grandchildren, Karlo (Nhaji) and Ken, Ricky (Dora), Leng (Boy), Vher - deceased (Alice), Maritess (Nhito), Josie - deceased (Romy), Ronnie (Leah) and Rody (Aiza), Marissa (Ferdie), Danny (Emma) and Rosie (Danny), Celia (Vener) and Juliet, Lito (Marlene), Marivic (Ghil), Carlo (Rosie) and Jaycee, Michelle, Joyce (Jason), Jasmin and Chris, Jane, Mark, Monica and Donald (Ling), Edlyn (Rommel), Leizel, Edward and Loriebelle, Agnes, Alma and Ariel, Patrick and Nicole; 57 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Dominga built a family foundation based on faith, strength, and the value of love. The well being of her loved ones was always her first priority. Her uplifting spirit, devotion, and sacrifice have influenced the importance of family. With all her love and generosity, she is well respected by all of those who she has touched. Along with her husband, they were the co-founders of the Original Filipino Seniors Association of Manitoba (OFSAM). She was an active member of the Filipino community and Folklorama. Dancing and singing were her favourite hobbies. She was a devoted Catholic and offered her heart to the Lord of Pardon. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Boniface General Hospital, especially the SICU and Vasc/Uro Ward, who provided their exceptional patience, compassion and understanding. Dear, Nanay, Lola, thank you for all your love and support you have given us. You will always be in our hearts and prayers. We will love you always. May God keep you safe until we meet again.
