Mary was born Nov. 8, 1917 in Hochfeld, Man. She married John K. Rempel on Oct. 18, 1938 and they were blessed with 63 years of married life. Prior to moving to Paraguay in 1948, they lived in Silberfeld, Man. Upon returning to Canada in 1950, they settled in Niverville. Many people have been blessed by her gift of hospitality and care-giving. She took a keen interest in all her family - each one was made to feel equally special. She always strove for harmony and peace. John and Mary were founding members of Word of Life Mission Church and supporters of many other Christian ministries. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, John, Aug. 10, 2002; by her parents, Jacob and Katherina Kehler; and sister Helen Neufeld. Left to cherish her memory are five children: Herman (Jeanne), Esther (Alvin) Brandt, both of Winnipeg, Man., Danny (Marjorie) of Blumenort, Man., Jake (Sue) of Sandy Hook, Man., and Niel (Audrey) of Grimshaw, Alta.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jacob (Tina) Kehler, Abe (Helen) Kehler; three sisters, Tina (Jacob) Stoesz, Nettie Hiebert and Anne Hiebert; two brothers-in-law, Ben (Evelyn) Rempel, Albert (Luella) Rempel; sisters-in-law, Jessie Friesen and Mary Friesen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Man., Friday, July 23, 2004 at 7:30 p.m., with a devotional at 8 p.m., led by Rev. Bill Rempel. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 24, 10:30 a.m., at the Word of Life Mission Church in Niverville, with Pastor Tassos Xanthopoulus officiating. Interment at Hespeler Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Word of Life Mission Church or to Continental Missions, 159 Cree Road, Thompson, MB, R8N 0C2 in support of Fred and Charlotte Evans. WILLIAM PASKARYK It is with great sadness that we announce Bill's passing on June 24, at the age of 89 years, at the Vita Personal Care Home. Bill was born June 15, 1915. He farmed a Stuartburn farm for many years; he liked gardening and flowers. With his wife Mary they retired in 1993 to Vita, Man., and still enjoyed the outdoors, garden and yard. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of 15 years, Mary; his parents; two brothers; three sisters; and two stepbrothers. Bill leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews. A member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Nativity of St. Mary's at Senkiw, Man., services were held June 28, with interment at the Parish cemetery. RAYMOND POITRAS Mr. Raymond Poitras of Woodridge, Man. passed away peacefully at the Beausejour Hospital, Monday, June 28, 2004 at the age of 84 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Arthur (Judy) of Beausejour, Man., granddaughter Kathy (Alan) Luszeck, four great-grandchildren; grandson Ben; his daughter Edith (Griff) Harper of Parksville, B.C.; and his former wife, Gretta Poitras of Parksville, B.C. He is also survived by five sisters: Alexina Nault, Terry (Wilf) Beach, Edie Donnelly, Gertie Habinski, and Cyria (Peter) Lawn; two brothers: Noel (Jean) and Richard (Kathy); brother-in-law Joe Zirgalick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Eugene and sister Antonie. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held, with cremains to be interred at St. Alexander Roman Catholic cemetery, Woodridge, Man. CREEK The family is sad to announce the death of their mother and grandmother, Thursday, May 30, 2002 in Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, Man. Her husband, Harold McConnell, passed away in 1972. She later married and enjoyed many years of happiness with Albert Creek, who also predeceased her. Beatrice is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters: Marie (Ernie) Breen and Marlene (Claude) Rougeau; as well as her grandchildren: Cheryl (David) Friesen, Carolyne (Peter) Bamforth, Laura (Brian) Wainwright, Michele (Ken) Shipley, Paul (Sheila) Rougeau and grandson-in-law Derek Burrows. Mom was born Dec. 3, 1918 in Strathclair, Man., to Ruby and Claude Brereton. She moved to Winnipeg, Man. as a young woman and resided there until 1993, when she moved to the Birchwood Apartments in Steinbach. Mom loved all types of crafts, even inventing many different kinds, and she happily shared them with everyone she knew. Her great-grandchildren were one of her greatest joys. Special appreciation is extended to Beatrice's many home care providers. They were like family to her and she thought and spoke of them with sincere affection. A Service of Remembrance will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street, with Pastor Tom Lurvey of Sherwood Park Lutheran Church officiating. Interment to follow in Waverley Memorial Gardens. EVA FRIESEN Eva Friesen of Grunthal, Man. passed away peacefully Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the tender age of 63, at the Medicine Hat Hospital. Eva was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, John M. Friesen. Eva leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, John of Steinbach, Man. and Peter of Grunthal, Man.; two daughters, Helen (David) of Medicine Hat, Alta. and Eva Rose of High River, Alta.; five grandchildren, Cheryl (Craig) of Ste. Anne, Man., Dillon (Kristin) of Steinbach, Tanya of Steinbach, Krystal of Steinbach and Dominique of High River, Alta.; six great-grandchildren, Dustin, Donovan, Chastity, Braxton, Destiny and Noah; two sisters, Anne (Abe) Hildebrandt and Dora Bergen, both of Steinbach; three nephews and two nieces. Special thanks to Bill and Betty Bergen. Eva was born and went to school in Silberfeld, Man. She was born Sept. 11, 1940. Eva worked at the sewing factory in Steinbach until she married John M. Friesen, June 21, 1959 in Silberfeld. Eva stayed home to raise their four children. Eva and John lived in New Bothwell, Man. until 1981, at which time they moved their family to Grunthal. Eva enjoyed gardening and yard work, flower gardens and planting trees. She worked alongside her husband, building fences and making firewood. She took a job driving a Handi Van in Steinbach. She loved driving "her kids." In late 2003 Eva and husband John went to Alberta to spend the winter with their girls. In November 2003 Eva lost John to emphysema. Eva stayed in Alberta to see about getting help with her illness. On May 29, 2004 she went to be, once again, with her husband John. The funeral service was held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, June 2, 2004 with interment at Grunthal Cemetery. DENISE CYNTHIA ANGELA ENNS (nee Reimer) Jan. 20, 1969 — May 27, 2004 Denise Enns, beloved wife of Leonard Enns, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Steinbach Bethesda Hospital, at the age of 35. Her memory will be forever cherished and she will be lovingly and deeply missed. Denise is survived by her loving husband Leonard and her five step-daughters: Valerie (Keith) McCowan, Trudy (Jamie) Alguire, Lori (Jim) Enns-Manchelenko, Peggy (Chris) Klassen, Kelly (Kelly) Enns-Walker; eight grandchildren; her parents, Ron and Margaret Reimer; her sister Tammy (Robert) Enns; her brother James (Sherry) Reimer; and her one niece, three nephews and her grandmother. Denise will be fondly remembered for her passion for the outdoors, including: camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, and cutting grass. Denise loved spending time with family and friends, and any activities involving her grandchildren. A special thank you to Denise's Aunt Mary Barkman, Dr. Duerksen and the nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital. HENRY G. HARDER Dad was born June 7, 1927 in Lowe Farm, Man., and passed away peacefully May 28, 2004 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach, Man. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 56 years, Helen (nee Gerbrandt); five sons and two daughters: Harry (MaryAnne), Peter (Lottie) of Winkler, Jake (Jan) of Calgary, Sharan (Maurice) Desmarais, Ed (Vi), Elmer (Jackie), Karen (Dennis) Janz; 33 grandchildren and their spouses and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Jake and Mary of Winnipeg, Ben and Tina; two sisters, Mary Klassen and Olga Harder; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Katherine Harder, five brothers and four sisters. Dad and Mom were married in 1947 in Steinbach and lived there all their life. Dad was baptized upon the confession of his faith in 1948. He was very active in church, teaching Sunday school and leading youth for many years. He not only set a wonderful example for his family, but also to the church youth as a whole. Dad worked for Loewen Chev Olds and Brookdale Pontiac for 30 some years, and then worked for Hanover School Division for 11 years as custodian. Dad first started having health problems in 1982. In 1988 he had his first stroke and was forced to retire, which he found very hard. The last 2 1/2 years he made his home in Rest Haven, while Mom was in Woodhaven. Dad's top priority in his life was his family, especially his grandchildren. We, the family, would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Rest Haven for the excellent care they provided. The funeral service was held Tuesday, June 1 at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church. Interment at Heritage Cemetery. WILLIAM TOURAND Sunday, May 30, 2004 at the Victoria Hospital, William Tourand of Winnipeg, Man. passed away at the age of 84 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Laura Tourand, in February of 1988. William leaves to cherish his memory, sons: Ken (Shaunna) of Ile des Chenes, Man., Raymond (Carol) of Red Deer, Alta.; four grandchildren: Tiffany, Cory, Angela (Ted), Keith; and two great-grandchildren: April and Henry. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 10:30 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with Father Couture officiating. Interment will follow at Marchand Cemetery. KATHARINA "KATHY" LEBEDYNSKI (nee Moran) Katharina "Kathy" Lebedynski of Penticton, BC passed away June 2, 2004 at Moog and Friends Hospice House, Penticton, BC, at 70 years of age. Predeceased by her sisters, Margaret and Helen, Kathy is survived by her husband John; sons, Michael (Rose) Moran, Alan (Kelly) Moran, Terry Moran; stepdaughter Helen (John) Crowther; sisters, Agnes, Marie, Ann, Eva, Susan, and Sara; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff of Moog and Friends Hospice House. SARAH "SALLY" WIENS (FUNK) (NEE FROESE) June 5, 1926 — May 28, 2004 Sarah Wiens was born in Lowe Farm, Man., and grew up in the Grunthal, Man. area. Sally was predeceased by her two husbands, John Funk (1962) and Jacob Wiens (1973); one sister, Margaret June Doerksen (1989); her mother, Elizabeth Doerksen; and her great-granddaughter, Channel Giles. She is survived by her son Ronald John Funk; daughter Lorna Elaine Welz (Ernest David Welz); son Lionel Wayne Funk (Charles Robert Johnson); grandson James David Welz (Theresa Welz); granddaughter Monica Lorna Giles (Christopher James Giles); great-grandchildren: Shawn Felix Welz, David James Welz, Gavius James Giles and Jude Sebastian Giles; her brothers and sisters: Justina Dueck, Susana Anne Radwanski, Mary Swain, Peter Doerksen, Edward Doerksen, George Doerksen and Johnny Doerksen; and also survived by extended family. Sally put herself through school and was involved in many endeavors, including as a beautician, a nurse's aide in Selkirk, Man., an occupational therapist, took life skills coach training at the University of Manitoba, and a car clinic certificate course. Sally also initiated programs for independent living. She was active in the community and loved Bethel Place. She also loved flowers, arts and crafts, music, porcelain dolls, puzzle solving and visiting with her friends and relatives. She had a knack for teaching people how to enjoy the simple things in life. The world will be a sadder place without her. Viewing took place Wednesday, June 2, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., Winnipeg, Man. Funeral service was held Thursday, June 3, 10:30 a.m., at Bethel Mennonite Church, 870 Carter Ave., Winnipeg, Man. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, with reception to follow at the church. Toews passed away at the St. Anthony Healthcare Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born on the family farm at Steinbach, Man., to Peter R. and Elisabeth Toews, Nov. 30, 1917, and passed away May 24, 2002 at the age of 84 years. He moved from Steinbach in 1962 and resided in Fridley, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis, since 1965. Funeral services were held May 29, 2002, at Shiloh Bethany Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he was a member for many years. He is survived by his wife Martha (nee Giesbrecht); two sons, Brian (Joanne) in Fridley, MN and Richard (Jeanne) in Spring Valley, MN; five grandchildren, Susan, Donald, David, Rebecca and Sarah. Also surviving him are two sisters, Helen Unruh of Winnipeg, Man., Linda Peters of Steinbach; and one brother Ernie P. Toews in Steinbach. FRANK D. FUNK 1930-2002 Dad was born June 12, 1930 and after a lengthy illness Dad went to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 31, 2002. Frank, son of Franz R. and Kathrina Funk, is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth, daughter Michelle (Greg) Klassen of Grunthal, son Patrick (Mireille) Funk of Kleefeld. "Papa" is also survived by his eight adoring grandchildren: Tristan, Kieran, Brayde, Taeghen, Daren, Keelan, Nixen, Carsen, as well as five sisters and seven brothers: Maria Dyck, Katherine (Ike) Dyck, Helen (Henry) Voth, Anne (Ruben) Fehr, Lydia (Vic) Dyck, Peter (Nettie), John (Esther), Jacob (Tina), Paul, Andy (Margaret), Victor (Martha), and Bill (Maggie). Dad was predeceased by son Mark Anthony, granddaughter Hope Funk and his parents Franz R. and Katherina Funk. Dad was a very ambitious man. Along with special friend and partner Emil Bertschinger, they worked hard to build a very successful business, Carleton Hatcheries and Dunn-Rite Food Products. Frank will be greatly missed by his partners Rico, Mario and Ursala Bertschinger and their many employees. A special thanks to our dear friend Dr. Craig Hildahl. The funeral service for Frank D. Funk will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Bergthaler Mennonite Church, Grunthal, MB. Viewing will be held Monday, June 3 at 7 p.m., with a devotional at 8 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel and one-half hour prior to the funeral service. Interment at Grunthal Cemetery.
