TONY BOYCHUK
August 14, 2004
TONY BOYCHUK In the early morning of August 11, 2004 at the age of 91, Tony Boychuk passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Tony was pre-deceased by his first wife Mary (1971) and second wife Millie (1987) as well as his brothers Archie, Dmytro, Peter and brother-in-law John. Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Walter (Alice), Elsie Henderson (Elmer), John (Gloria), Nancy Grodzik (Bob); 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his sister Olga Stefaniuk; his sister-in-law Lily Boychuk; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Tony was born in Siniow, Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1929 at the age of 15. His family settled in the Glenella area along with other Ukrainian families. Tony often shared stories of "riding the rails" during the "dirty" thirties looking for work so he could help the family financially. In 1934, Tony married Mary Kuzyk from Glenella. They spent two years operating a general store in Lewvan, SK before returning to Glenella in 1947 where they farmed and raised their family. In 1959 they moved to Winnipeg where Tony was employed by the City of Winnipeg until his retirement in 1978. Tony and Mary were very active with the AUUC and spent many years singing in choirs and helping with banquets at the Ukrainian Labour Temple. After his first wife Mary passed away at an early age, he was fortunate to meet Millie whom he married in 1976. They shared many happy times together and were even able to do some travelling with Millie's children in Eastern Canada. Tony's general good health allowed him to live independently in his home on Manitoba Avenue and then in an apartment on Sinclair Street. This past December he moved into the independent living area of Fred Douglas Lodge. Tony made very many friendships and had many wonderful memories. He loved going out for breakfasts and he loved his family. He considered himself the "luckiest man in the world" whenever the family got together to celebrate an event. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Fred Douglas Lodge for their care and support. Cremation has taken place. At Tony's request there will be no formal funeral service. A private family function will be held at a later date. Cropo Funeral Chapel 586-8044

He lost his fight and is now at peace.
