JANICE ANDERSON

August 10, 2004

JANICE CAROLYN ANDERSON September 14, 1975 - August 7, 2004 After a brief stay and suddenly, Janice passed away at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 28 years. She was surrounded by the love and presence of her family during her brief illness. Janice leaves to mourn her passing her parents, Jim and Faith; brother Jason; sister Crystal; fiance Bruce; maternal grandmother Lillian; her special niece Sierra and many, many relatives and friends. Janice was born in Winnipeg, MB where she grew up in Fort Richmond attending St. Avila Elementary, Acadia Junior High and graduating from Fort Richmond Collegiate in 1993. With an interest in working with children and people she enrolled and graduated with Honours in 2001 from Red River Community Collegiate obtaining a Youth and Child Care Worker Certificate. She continued on this path and was in her final year of obtaining her Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Manitoba. Janice worked for six years as a Special Needs Teacher Assistant at Oakenwald School working in the classroom with needy children and the Reading Recovery Program. She loved working with the children and took pride in contributing to their educational progress. During the last number of years, while going to Red River and University of Manitoba, she worked with several group homes for MacDonald Youth Services, Halldersons and DASH. She was currently working during the summer with Family Services and Housing. She had just completed her six month volunteer training with Women's Health Clinic and was looking forward to starting the job as a Crisis Counsellor. In growing up she was an avid ringette and hockey player and participated in music and drama in junior high and high school. Her childhood summers were spent at Brereton Lake in the Whiteshell and Janice's love for the lake continued into her adult life. Her special interests were white-water canoeing, scrapbooking, needlepoint, reading and traditional native artwork. Janice was a passionate collector and cherished her many treasurers. In recent years Janice discovered her Metis heritage and was a member of St. Norbert La Barriere Council, focusing her time on collecting food for the Metis Child and Family Services. In her short life Janice was a caring, generous and loving person, always thinking and doing for others. She knew where she was going and tackled her new found vision with zeal and tremendous passion. Her family, fiance, and very precious niece Sierra were the centre of her life, who she greatly loved. Janice was dearly loved by her family and fiance and she is now in heaven where she will continue to love and look over us. A Celebration of Life and prayers for Janice Anderson will be held on Wednesday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. All are invited to attend as we celebrate and share Janice's life.
