AGATHA VOGT BROESKY
Agatha was born near Glen Kerr, Sask., March 19, 1932, a few months after her father passed away. She lived with her mother until she moved to the La Broquerie, Man. area at the young age of 16. It was here, while employed as a housekeeper for her brother Dave and his wife Susan, that she met and married our father at 18 years of age. Their wedding took place March 16, 1951 in Giroux, Man. God blessed our wonderful parents with nine children.
During our parents 51 1/2 years of married life, our mom faced and overcame many challenges. Dad became a pastor in 1968 and has since pastored three churches. Throughout all these years she faithfully and unselfishly served as a pastor's wife, while pouring her love and life into her family.
Being the mother of nine children and raising seven of them to adulthood was no easy task. Waking up, packing lunches and getting seven children ready for the bus by 8:20 a.m. was only one of her many daily tasks. Our parents would sometimes jokingly say, "There go our seven dwarfs." I guess that would make our mom "Snow White." One of our fond memories coming off the bus was the smell of Mom's home cooking. We were so blessed to have our mom waiting for us and looking after us.
Our mom loved Jesus. She told us that when she was 12, her mom was deathly ill. It was at this time that she cried out to Jesus and He answered her prayers and spared her mom's life. She later rededicated her life to the Lord shortly after the death of her infant son Marvin. After being baptized, our parents have faithfully served the Lord all these years.
After overcoming many challenges, at age 59 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This prompted immediate radical surgery. About five years later the cancer had metastasized into her bones. Mother courageously endured more surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation treatments, bone therapy and numerous medications.
During these difficult times our mother blessed us and many others with her grateful and positive spirit. She was always so thankful to all those who helped her and prayed for her. We will always cherish her final words, thanking her family for being there for her.
Our mom passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 18, 2002 with family at her bedside. Her wish was to go to glory from her home of 48 years and God granted her wish. Mother will be greatly missed by her husband, two sons and five daughters. Left to mourn are her beloved husband Peter; sons, Allen (Sharon) Broesky, Gerry (Diane) Broesky; daughters, Elaine (John) Warkentin, Myrna (Greg) Penner, Karen (Jack) Martens, Teresa (Eric) Wiens, Beverly (Barron) Friesen; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by many friends and relatives.
Mother was predeceased by two children in infancy, Laura and Marvin; her parents; five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, 2:30 p.m., at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church in Steinbach, with Mr Gerry Broesky and Pastor Jim Humphries officiating. A private family interment followed in the Steinbach Heritage Cemetery.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Roger Gingerich, Dr. Wilfrid Kaethler and nurse Anne Plett for helping our mother and us through this difficult time. We are also grateful to the staff at Bethesda Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, Victoria General Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital.
We also want to thank Bill Dyck and the staff at Loewen Funeral Chapel, the Evangelical Free Church for the use of their facilities, Pastors Jim and Irene Humphries and all those who helped us celebrate our mom's home-going.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Agatha Broesky Memorial Fund, c/o Gospel Chapel, Box 309, La Broquerie, MB R0A 0W0.
Arrangements entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel of Steinbach.
