MURIEL DEERE
June 25, 2004
MURIEL DEERE On June 20, 2004, after a brief illness, Muriel Deere peacefully passed away in the presence of her family at Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary. Muriel Catherine Annie Buchanan was born September 8, 1922 in Morden, MB. She spent her childhood on the Buchanan family farm, southwest of Morden, and attended Diamond School. She was a lifelong fan of the Blue Bombers, even after her move to Calgary. Muriel was predeceased, in 1994, by her husband of 51 years, August. She is survived by sons, Ray and Jeff and daughters-in-law, Sandy and Lynn of Calgary. Grandchildren, Owen (Kerri) of Wetaskiwin and Jeremy (Jeanette), Emily, Benjamin and Alison and great-grandson Matthew, all of Calgary. VIVIENNE FONGER
June 25, 2004
VIVIENNE DOROTHY FONGER (nee LOVEGROVE) It is with great sadness, we mourn the passing of our beloved wife, mom and grandma on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 . After a lengthy illness, she passed away at Victoria General Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents, Lena and Bert; brother Harold; and sister Eunice. She is survived by many friends and family who dearly cherish her memory, Don, her husband of 51 years; her daughter Norma (Pat) and grandsons, Evan and Calvin; her son Jim (Mari) and grandson James and granddaughter Elizabeth of Columbia, SC; her son Bob (Susi) of Calgary, AB; Jack (Joan) Fonger; and many other dear relatives and friends. She was born and raised in Winnipeg where she lived her whole life. After attending Gordon Bell High School and working in a bank, she met Don and raised three children. Throughout her life she was a loving wife and mother who was always there for her family and friends before herself. She had a genuine interest in others and their lives. Spending her whole married life in Fort Garry, she nurtured many wonderful and long lasting friendships which have continued to support her through her recent illness. Her outside interests included over 30 years in the McKinnon Guild with volunteering at the Nearly New Shop, her bridge clubs, her 23 years of dance aerobics and the dear friendships that all these activities fostered. She was a gracious hostess and wonderful cook for many parties and celebrations including her annual Grey Cup party since 1966 and her Academy Awards Home Theatre nights. She loved her home overlooking the river and spending many summer evenings flower gardening in her backyard. She travelled with Don, but her heart was always back home with her family and friends. The family would like to thank the multitude of people who supported her throughout her illness. In particular Dr. Jeyakumar and Ann, Dr. Tomy, Dr. Greene, Rev. Ron Long, Ivy, her primary nurse and all the caring 3rd floor staff at the Victoria General Hospital for their excellent care and who were also a great source of comfort. We would also like to thank Vivienne's guardian angel, Olive, and the Calendar Girls for bringing warmth, love and happiness during her hospital stay. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at Thomson "In the Park" on Monday, June 28 at 1:30 p.m. If friends so wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made on her behalf to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8. LORRAINE SHIRLEY ANN HILLAND (HARGRAVE) 1918 - 2004 June 20 at her home in St. Malo, Lorraine passed away with her daughter Judy at her side. She was predeceased by her brother Jack and her husband Allen. Lorraine leaves to mourn her daughters, Wendy (Hugh) Anderson, Bonnie (John Daly), Judy (Ray Sie) and her grandchildren, Jennifer (Jared), Shelby (Ross), Ian and Winter. She was a devoted mother and homemaker, was active in the community and the Eastern Star, and worked at the Post Office and Transient Centre. The family built a cabin at Glad Lake where they spent all their summers. She and Al lived in Leduc, AB for a brief period. In 1977 Lorraine moved to Winnipeg until she found her "little house" on the lake in St. Malo. She used it first as a summer cottage, but with Judy, Ray and Winter moving next door she made it her permanent home. Lorraine had a number of pets retire at her home but she spoiled and spent the greatest time with her constant companion Cocoa whom she has missed terribly. Lorraine was a fabric artist and proudly entered her award winning quilts in the Frog Follies Agricultural Show for many years. The St. Malo Ghost Riders still remember Gammie's chili at their horse shows. The family would like to thank the St. Pierre Home and Palliative Care Program, especially Ann-Marie and Shirley for their devoted care, which allowed Lorraine to remain in her own home. He put His arms around you, And lifted you to rest, God's garden must be beautiful He takes only the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain. He knew the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered, "Peace be thine" It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.
